Always Infinity pads, they're the BEST and it doesn't feel like a normal pad. Get the orange or green one- full coverage front to back with wings!

Modify anything that hurts you! It should not hurt. If it's lateral raises, try without weights. If it is lunges, don't go down as deep. I usually wear gym shorts (the longer ones) or sweat pants becaus shorts rise up sometimes. I wear a regular t-shirt that fits, nothing too baggy because when you get sweaty it'll stick to you and stuff. Definitely try eating something after you work out, or maybe a protein bar before you work out. Also try listening to positive music such as gospel, and encourage yourself during your workout
