THIS! I started running on a treadmill last year. Granted, it definitely improved my fitness & stamina, but since I started running outdoors in March this year I have never looked back - and I can't bear to run on the treadmill anymore!!

Have to second the Shock Absorbers. In particular, try and get hold of the B5044 - designed for running, therefor giving maximum support. If you're in the UK too, pop down to your local TK Maxx - sometimes they sell these in there, a damn sight cheaper than RRP too. Think mine was about £7.99 which is about £25 less than…

I get the Meriden PB from Holland & Barratt - nothing but PEANUTS (i.e. no oil or anything else added). It's delicious.

Hey everyone + thanks for all of your really helpful replies. It's nice to know that what I get is quite common, although it's not a nice feeling obviously! I am only running 5-6km so I can't see it being a distance thing... I tried the eating before running when I first started out and it really did not work well for me…

Not sure what happened here but to say I am confused would be an understement. Thanks to everyone who tried to help though. Guess the only way for me to figure it out is to try it. If it nfails, try something else.

Sorry I forgot to mention, I wouldn't normally replace my meal with a shake as I did today but when I got back from my run I was a bit late and couldn't eat what I had brought with me (ryvita flatbreads & low fat cheese triangles) so I just quickly made up the shake & drank that with a banana.

Thanks for your replies :-) Do you think my protein goal is too high then? I changed it to the ratios I stated above as it was recommended by other people on here. I work in an office and due to my working hours I don't really have the time to get protein in during the day as I eat breakfast & lunch at my desk. I made the…

I can't meet my goals without it.

Hi, could you explain why 2 shakes is not good?
-
Hi all, Thanks for the replies. I had the O.N shake as a meal replacement after my run, with a banana. I will have my other one before I hit the gym for weights tonight :-) My goal ratio is 45 carbs, 30 protein, 25 fat.

Anyone? :-)

Since I have started running outdoors, the times thatI do go on the treadmill I HATE it. I make sure I keep the gym blinds open so I can see outside, I listen to my own music on my iPod and I do intervals. I still get bored though! Can't beat running outdoors.

Sorry only just seen this, thanks for your reply!

Thanks for your reply. Think tomorrow I will try the jogging at lunch and then just lifting at the gym in the evening :-) Could I also ask anyone whether they think the weights I do is sufficient? 8 reps, 4 sets of 7 or 8 different weight machines?
-
Hi to all and thanks for further replies. So, today I tried weights first, and yes I was able to increase the kg of the weights for most of the machines but only by 1 marker....and then I tried to get on the treadmill and my legs wouldn't work! I just could not run, I felt so weak....so I did walking uphill instead of…

Thanks to all for their replies. I haven't started doing the lunchtime run AND gym in the evening yet, but I am enjoying my lunchtime run on my non-gym day so much that I want to do it every day! I also want to still be able to do the gym work as well... I don't exercise on Saturdays/Sundays - those are my rest days.…

I don't have a heart rate monitor so I can't measure that aspect of it. I usually ha couple of mins to warm up and then do intervals of all out as fast as I can go for 45 secs to a minute, then a moderate walking pace for 1 1/2 mins to 2 mins and repeat. Maybe it is more interval training than intensity interval training…

Only because I just don't think a weight session by itself will be much of a workout. My gym is a council owned/local authority one and the weights are very limited. The only free weights they have are dumbells. I use the weight machines such as lat pulldowns, leg curls/extention/press, chest press, adominal…

Thank you all for your really helpful replies. Especially regarding lifting for different areas on different days (arms one day legs the next). Re: doing HIIT and lifting on different days, unfortunately this isn't an option for me. I have found that I am still improving with weights even when I do them after HIIT, as I am…

PB2? I probably have around 3-4 coffees per day, so 3-4 teaspoons of agave. I was thinking about the cost more than anything actually as it's nearly £3! Obv. way more expensive than regular sugar. Whilst agave does have higher calories than regular sugar it is way sweeter so you use less...

Erm, no....not every day for the rest of my life. Nor do I ever intend on having 1 kid, let alone 10. Anyone else?

Thanks for the replies :-) I do have some unopened Splenda at home actually. How is Splenda in baking? I bake a lot of banana bread (and usually use brown sugar for that) for my OH so I don't want to mess with the taste too much!

Thanks for your replies. On the days I have a run during the day I will take the protein straight after doing so; but on my gym days I think I will try an hour or so before I go because I eat my evening meal as soon as I get back from the gym. I'm not using as a meal replacement as I didn't think that's what whey protein…

Yes, usually the medicine aisle where the vitamins etc are. The variety is very limited though. I would try Holland & Barrett or somewhere like that instead?

I tried this recently and it is delicious! So creamy! I actually made my own last week.....a cup of almonds, soaked overnight, blend them up with 3 x cups of water (if you want to flavour your milk you can add vanilla extract or whatever)....then strain using muslin or something similar, and hey presto, fresh almond milk.

I kind of expect people at the gym to smell of BO a bit. Unacceptable smells at the gym, however, are farts, food, and tobacco.
-
Thank you so much! I changed my ratio to the one you recommended, just need to start getting some more protein! I am actually going to make my own almond milk this weekend, can't wait :-) Oh I do have cheat days, don't worry. Mine are usually Sat/Sun - I know I should probably just have one day but weekends + beer + snacks…

Wow, fantastic post! Thanks for that  I changed my settings to that all MFP members can view my diary so feel free to take a peek  I do do weights, but not for hours. My exercise at the moment is usually 40-50 mins of cardio, then 7 different sets of weight machines (my gym is very small and does not have free…

Nah, I know it was really sweet. He made my day anyway! It was more the looks up & down that were a little creepy but it's no big deal :-)

Hahahaha! I won't! This guy works out at the gym in jeans...denim jeans...bizarre!
