Don't forget Ab Ripper X adds another 12 (I think?) minutes to the overall session!

I just waited until I was done with my half to focus on lifting again. I tried doing P90x and training for the half at the same time and it was just an insane amount of time to spend working out... Also, they kind of cancel each other out, you know? :) Better just to focus on getting your race training the best it can be…

Breakfast: Store-brand or bulk old-fashioned oatmeal... Should be cheap for a HUGE canister. You can mix it with some store-brand peanut butter for a little healthyish fat and a tiny bit of protein. To get some produce either buy the absolute cheapest fruits they have at the store, or if that's even too much, try…

Someone else will likely answer this more in-depth... But an actual *fitness* competition involves the usual required posing, etc., as well as a gymnastics-heavy choreographed routine with a costume and everything. Frankly, I think this is one thing that's making Fitness as a competition category drop in popularity…

Many men I know would walk THROUGH me to get to Christina Hendricks, even in regular clothes... but ok ;)

Marylin at 5'5 1/2" and 140 lbs would be about a size six... Those are close to my stats. Not a 0 :) But you're right, sizes have definitely changed!! That's why I have to laugh a little at that "Size 14" false factoid that gets thrown around.

Pretty sure bones-poster is a troll. Another one of his forum posts also assures someone their need to pee after drinking water will decrease with time.

An HRM with a foot pod or GPS will tell you, but if you have a smart phone, you can also use an app like MapMyRun or Endomondo. :)

I'm weird but I love my treadmill! I live in a very HOT, HUMID, RAINY area and sometimes my only free time to run is in the middle of the day or in the middle of the storm... so if I didn't have this thing there are many days when I probably wouldn't train! I think since you are setting the incline you will be fine. I…

I say enjoy the nap if you have time while nobody else is around! Don't feel guilty. :) Better to be a little better rested for the quality time with your family. Seriously, I don't know why there is such a stigma about adults taking naps. haha.

Oh, also, I agree with setting your alarm across the room or something similar -- I have an alarm clock called "Clocky" that actually rolls off the night stand once you hit snooze! haha! HOWEVER -- I don't agree necessarily with setting your alarm for half an hour before you *really* need to get up. I found for me it was…

First -- I have some iced coffee or something already brewed. Haha. Second, and I have the luxury of being able to do this (work from home, no kids), I've just adjusted my sleep cycle into two parts. I do creative work and my best stuff comes out at night, so I've decided not to fight it. So I do my thing as I please, go…

I went to Disney last month and just for kicks, I wore my fitness watch and foot pod (but not my HRM strap, even I have limits, haha) every day. We walked an average of eight miles every day! Also, I second what other people say about the surprising healthy options. EPCOT has the best because of the culinary variety -- you…

Try seeing your doctor? If you are doing everything you say and truly weighing/measuring everything, then maybe something is wrong. Maybe you're on a prescription med that's hindering your ability to lose weight, or maybe you have an undiscovered condition, etc. Best to just get checked out and see, right? I understand how…

I've been doing this (also cycling carbs) and have broken out of a really long plateau! The high days are fun. Hah! It all averages out in the end, I think.

Same, I am close to my personal goal so (shrug) a 1200 net doesn't really give me a *huge* deficit, especially considering all the estimates of calories and burns... I really lose about a pound a week. I eat back all my exercise calories though :) So my actual intake has often been on average anywhere from 1500 to 2000+.…
-
Mine is at 1200 (net) for a projected rate of loss of 1.3 pounds a week... But I exercise a lot because I love it, so I usually eat a lot more calories.
-
Only works for large weight losses, but running into someone in public from your past who doesn't recognize you!
-
YUP! When I ran a half-marathon last month there were some spectators holding a sign that said, "Keep running if you love dessert." Sounds about right! I love exercising, so I don't see it as "punishment" for eating or a necessary evil or anything, but I definitely love getting to eat more because of it. When I read about…

SO TRUE!! I live in Florida where people roast in the sun and let's say... Just in my late 20s now, there is a big difference in the eyes/hands/chest/foreheads between my friends who continued to bake from their teen years, and those who did not. I'd rather not look like a spotted wallet :)

Definitely pick sedentary. The activities like "walking" and "cleaning" don't really burn as many calories as you think. I've noticed this since I got a heart rate monitor :) The other day I did about 3.5 hours of relatively hardcore cleaning (sweeping with a broom, mopping, etc.) and I only burned like 150 calories more…

Not sure, I didn't start the thread? I didn't even see a full episode of the show until a couple months ago when I got Netflix. I think a lot of the people on the show are dangerously close to life-threatening disease, though, because they are so large.... So I do think the parts where they get a wake-up call medical…

Eh, the nutritional bits are really just built-in commercials for the packaged food sponsors of the show... frozen smoothies, cereal bars, Subway, whatever. I personally HATE those parts of the show, they're so stilted! "Oh hey, are you guys hungry for a healthy snack?" "Sure, I was thinking of having ...." ugh That said,…

I do not naturally have a thin build, lol -- everything I've lost was VERY hard-won (or hard-lost? hah) -- but I'm on my last 18 pounds now, I think.
-
Yep! Worst feeling. When I see people complain that they "binged" because they overate by a couple hundred calories I always think, "Oh, you do NOT know a real binge," lol.... Have to laugh so I don't cry ;)

I used to be, as a result of "recovering" from bulimia but not really dealing with the issues that caused it. It's something I still struggle with now but focusing less on "dieting" and just making healthier choices is helping a lot. So is analyzing my feelings about what I am looking for from food, and finding other ways…

What everyone else said, plus, yeah, doing fad diets, especially HCG, will screw you up big-time. I speak from experience! I did a round of doctor-supervised medical HCG last year and my metabolism was SO damaged that I had to work out and cut calories like I was dieting just to maintain my loss. It was horrible. Only in…

Yeah, the only way to get accurate on these, because of all the different variables like weight, rep, etc. is to use an HRM. They honestly don't burn as many calories as you might think or as the company advertises, with the exception of maybe the plyometrics workout, which burns like 600-700. I get anything from 275…

DO NOT FEEL BAD. Something I learned over the course of losing a crapload of weight is that people are going to use your choice to lead a healthier lifestyle as a weird emotional mirror to their own issues. There is nothing you can do about it, really -- and you shouldn't have to change what you REALLY want to do to take…

Yep, this! Real food (butter=cream, maybe salt) > chemical tubs/sprays. Just use portion control :) The extra bit of natural fat will make your food extra satisfying and satiating.
