  • It's true, age doesn't *necessarily* matter... Which is why I think some of us implied that if the OP would like to meet somebody, he's probably best served by keeping an open mind rather than limiting his search to a specific age range. Congrats on the 17 years :)
  • I'm guessing since the OP's user name includes "1983" he is likely 28, turning 29 this year... and has somehow ruled out women his own age. Hah. I'm not sure I understand the qualitative difference between 26, 27, and 28. But, not my life issue to deal with.
  • Just scrambled some eggs in it :) I don't shoot for eating any specific amount, I just add some whenever I want to squeeze in some healthy fats and olive oil, etc. wouldn't be appropriate taste-wise. It's good for high-temperature cooking.
  • +1 from this 28-year-old. (And no, I'm not bitter about my age or anything, I LOVE being this age and am happily settled anyways).... When I was in my early 20s, I dated many men who were the OP's age and older who "just liked younger women." I thought *I* was soooo mature and special and that's why they had picked me! But…
  • This is pretty much how it works for me too. The calorie deficit still matters, but the protein, fat, and fibrous carbs (and occasional delicious fruit) are all very satisfying and filling.
  • Just a thought -- the cheapest cuts of meat are often the fattiest, so you could save some money and get more calories that way. Whole bone-in chickens with skin on, *not* lean ground beef (the usual 80/20 stuff), stew meat, etc...
  • I've done paleo on and off over the past couple of years... I didn't think I really needed to read 'The Paleo Solution' after reading the other books, but I like Robb Wolf's blog so I actually just picked it up out of curiosity a couple days ago. So far, it seems pretty solid -- and compared to "primal" approaches that are…
  • If you go on YouTube and search "Chair Aerobics" you'll come up with a lot of free segments... A lot of them are hilariously low budget and full of weird public access TV effects, but it's a low-cost, low-equipment option! :)
  • I know :( lol. For others on the board who live with others with no food or weight issues (lucky people!) -- how do you deal with them bringing your trigger foods into the house? I'm talking about other adults, not a situation where, say, it's you and the kids so you can control the food that comes in and out. It seems…
  • Oh, the Diet Coke on the side IS SO ME. Or sometimes at the end I would finish with fruit because, I don't know, I felt like it was a somehow "cleansing" touch. So screwed up! I feel like we are 12-steppers swapping war stories here, and in a way, I guess binging is really a form of addiction...
  • Well I have to say this thread makes me feel not so alone ;) I would say that some of the examples on here probably qualify just as "overeating" if they comprised, say, eating one high-calorie item or meal... To me *personally*, I feel like a "binge" is really marked more by specific triggers, a complete feeling of loss of…
  • I usually get chicken and broccoli, no rice. It's hard if you're eating with other people that get the fried/sauced stuff though -- I always wind up picking at it!
  • Yep, this happened to me last month while lifting weights :) Gained a pound, lost an inch in my gut. I'll take it! So, plus one to what everyone else said about strength training... Good luck!!!
  • Let me add that people might notice it, but maybe they don't want to bring it up yet for fear of saying it in an offensive way. Some people worry that noticing weight loss amounts to implying you were fat before :) After I lost a ton of weight, most people I hadn't seen in a while said, "You look ... GREAT!" And I was…
  • Strong cup of coffee beforehand... Then I usually eat a few Shot Bloks around the 6- or 7- and maybe 11-12ish-mile marks (basically every hour, I'm slow)... Some people who are better conditioned don't need any of that :) I live in a climate of extremely high humidity year round though so I get pooped earlier. I personally…
  • A couple of great books that explore this topic are: Michael Pollan - 'The Omnivore's Dilemma' (first section about corn production and corn additives, HFCS, etc.) and Dr. David Kessler - 'The End of Overeating' -- this one explores much more in-depth what some posters above have touched on, which is the science of food…
  • I LOVE to exercise but I do have some exercise-free days. To be honest, I don't really plan rest days, though, I just wait for them to happen. I've been really busy traveling and doing stuff in the evening for work lately, so sometimes I miss a day and don't sweat it, and I count that as my "rest day." Or sometimes if,…
  • I just thought about this thread again and googled really quick and this must be the diet he was telling her about: http://www.perriconemd.com/display.do?ruleID=101121 Sounds sustainable, right? :ohwell: But if it worked then props to her if she can find a healthy maintenance plan!
  • I usually run with a hydration belt (longer runs) or arm band for my phone, so I usually bring my driver's license and my insurance card so, God forbid, I wouldn't get rejected from a hospital or something (you never know). I don't have any medical conditions -- but if I did I would get a road ID. I never thought about…
  • Everyone else has covered protein, so here are some fiber ideas: --old-fashioned oatmeal (haven't read NROLFW, but I'm pretty sure this is on most weightlifters' meal plans) --flaxseed/flaxseed meal -- add it to your oatmeal, salads, soups, protein shakes... you could do the same with chia seeds too, though those are more…
  • I have a couple votes for states worse than Florida :P I'm here!
  • Not arguing at all here -- what do you mean by "moved on?" Do you mean that they've gone on to other approaches completely (back to "high" carbs by a LC standard) or on to Paleo or something? Also, what the hell happened to Jimmy Moore?!??! I clearly have not kept up with the old-school LC blogosphere.
  • It's absolutely Dr. Perricone -- not sure if they said it but I recognized him instantly from his books :) I'm guessing it's all edited oddly and he was probably just giving her the plan he recommends in his weight loss book, which is your typical low-glycemic, moderate fat kinda deal which yes, involves lots of egg whites…
  • You look great!! I am 5'6" and currently around your SW, and that is about my UGW, so it's very motivating. Thanks for posting :)
  • This has happened to me several times, and it sucks but there are ways around it -- Just get clothes for your intermediate weights at thrift stores or very cheap places. Buy them in basic/minimal styles and colors that you like so no one will really be able to remember if you repeat outfits, etc. if that matters. I cut my…
  • Hi Reita! I have a similar background.... In my college-age years I was HUGE into lifting, running, etc. and started getting off-track for various health reasons around 2008 as well. I'm 28 now and lost most of my weight (working on the vanity pounds) so I will say -- you can ABSOLUTELY do this.... And it does get easier!…
  • I have the same issue -- not a problem, I like to consider it a "gift" haha. For very cheap jeans (important if you are still losing and don't want to invest if your size is going to drop again), Forever 21 makes a "curvy" fit jean now in regular (not plus) sizes. I have the same issue where things that fit my butt mean a…
  • What everyone else said.... But here are a couple of programs for free on the web... They are slightly different in focus but will both get you lifting :) http://stronglifts.com/stronglifts-5x5-beginner-strength-training-program/ http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/jamie-eason-livefit-trainer.html
  • I am a female with tattoos AND a fan of Slayer!! So I'm glad I'm at least sending out part of the right message :blushing: But yeah, I work in a professional field, make good money, am never judged by my stuff.... I think it's really a moot point these days except perhaps among the oldest and most conservative segments of…
