  • Give them one good beating they'll never forget, and they will forever fear another. (surely, I jest)
  • Sounds like the perfect time to start a resistance training program on your upper body. You can do most moves sitting or lying down.
  • The best way to boost metabolism is to increase lean muscle mass. Best way to do that is to lift heavy weights.
  • I hate to tell you but... if you're feeling like you're starving counting calories, you will feel like you're starving on weight watchers. It's all pretty much the same, just presented a bit differently. My advice: Train yourself to eat proper foods in proper portions, and forget your weight watchers fee.
  • Stairmill !!! HIIT = High Intensity Interval Training
  • Today is: 35 cal 12 baby carrots 7 cal 1/2 cup celery 70 cal 2 tbsp Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce 238 cal 1 cup chopped turkey 100 cal Light Strawberry Yogurt 450 cal total 180 cal 1.5 servings of protein shake (don't really count this toward my lunch) The turkey and BBQ sauce being my entree varies throughout the week.…
  • If you want to get ultra technical, you might actually burn LESS calories in a sauna than you would in a normal temperature room, since your body doesn't have to work as hard to maintain it's temperature. If you want to burn more calories doing nothing, you want your room to be as cold as possible... Shivering burns…
  • I feel that cardio is a nice addition to a weight loss regimen. But as koosdel said, the only thing that really matters for taking off the fat is your calorie deficit, and you can do that 100% with diet. I'm currently lifting heavy for strength 4 days a week, and only have 2 dedicated cardio days. I'll throw in some high…
  • That's a problem I would like to have. I don't think it's possible to have too much protein.
  • Whatever you are burning this week, strive to burn more next week. Keep pushing yourself harder. Every week my goal is to have better sessions than the week before... Go harder on the weights, pedal faster on the bike, blast more flights on the stairmill, or just burn more calories in general.
  • How much protein are you getting a day? (This is for my own personal information... not trying to scrutinize)
  • Your shin soreness could be shin splints. Terribly painful and difficult to cure. It's possible that you are putting too much stress on your legs before they are ready.
  • You need the receiver that plugs into your nano. http://nikerunning.nike.com/nikeos/p/nikeplus/en_US/commerce/nikeplus?hf=12003^4294967132^4294965468&t=iPods#/?ll=en_US&ct=US&pid=118523&cid=102201&pgid=&p=PDP
  • I have found that I like to have a piece of fruit (usually a banana or orange) about an hour before I go to the gym, then a full meal (lunch) right after. No science behind it... just what I've found to help me through my workout and recovery. I don't really believe in the whole 'metabolism changes post workout' thing.
  • Mine is open to the world. It's pretty boring. I figure if people want to look at my diary it's either out of boredom or to get ideas. If someone gives me unsolicited advice on my nutrition I'll do the same here as I do whenever I get unsolicited advice in the real world... tell them exactly where they can shove it.
  • If I can get to my goal body I want "STRENGTH" in big black letters across my stomach. If I can get my arms where I want I'll get "SEARCH AND DESTROY" elbow to elbow across the back.
  • Thank you for posting this. It takes a good bit of testicular fortitude to put your problems out there for people to see. Keep fighting!
  • Your settings for max and resting heart rate, and VO2 max (if your HRM support it) play a HUGE part in the amount of calories it tells you that you have burned. And always remember that even a HRM is still just an estimate.
  • Thanks for posting this! All great advice. I'll be bookmarking this and reading it throughout the year.
  • Tools > BMR That number, minus the calories you eat in a day equals your deficit. Edit: ( BMR + Exercise Calories ) - Calories In = Deficit
  • Yeah, it's been like that for a long time. Some brands are a lot closer to correct inch measurement than others. Even most of the ones that are close still run large.
  • I have had similar troubles with my knees. I don't think anything short of surgery will clear mine up... But I can still do anything short of deep squats without too much trouble. Whenever I go past 90 degrees and try to push it gets extremely painful and sounds like I'm breaking twigs all the way back up. I guess I don't…
  • I first gave my wife flowers on our first wedding anniversary. She got one red rose. She will get one more each year we're married. Guys have it rough... women send some messed up signals... but a dozen roses on the second date is just thick.
  • I don't think telling people they are overweight is the best thing to do... ever. You are better off setting an example for those around you, and hoping they decide for themselves to get on board.
  • Folgers, black. I measure how much I drink by the pot.
  • Most people, working vigorously, can burn 10-12 calories per minute. I know I can do a heck of a lot more than 10 or 12 jumping jacks in a minute. Whatever you are reading is wrong. I'm not trying to knock jumping jacks. I think they are fantastic.
  • Shin splints are a nightmare! When I joined my first gym they did a fitness evaluation type thing and made me walk a mile. My shins started hurting the first quarter mile, by 3/4 miles I was almost in tears. I limped the last couple laps so bad my lap time almost doubled as I was pulling myself along using the outside…
  • Same thing happens to me. I have heard that a lot of people have the same problem. I'm much more worried about my nethers when I sit on the bike too long.
  • In 2012 I want to... ...be the best dad I can be to both my 5 year old step son and my baby boy that's on the way. ...have a lot of fun outdoors. After hurting my ankle this past spring, I feel I really missed out on all the good weather. By the end of 2012 I want to... ...be close to 200 pounds. My current goal weight is…
  • I can drop 4-5 pounds throughout the day. Especially after a nice workout. If it were me, I would only count my morning weights like you have been doing.
