Congrats on your upcoming wedding! Wish you oodles of joy!

3.53 miles today! Treadmill + laps around the building at work! considering 2 weeks ago I barely got 1000 steps in a day, I'm downright happy about that!

I really like the idea of letting grandma spoil them once or twice a month. She probably likes the faux-adoration she gets for bringing in the "loot", since she and they know it's rare... I also support throwing it away when she leaves, or putting it back in her car before she leaves. I have a similar issue with my ex's…

I think people notice, but are reluctant to say anything in case they're mistaken. Or maybe they feel like if they didn't say "ooo looks like you've put on a few pounds" then they shouldn't say anything the opposite way, either. I'm down 28 lbs from my start, and my clothes fit very differently from where they did. I went…

I HATE when my husband sits next to me, late at night, with a big honkin bowl (like, 2x-3x a normal portion size) of something not-even-remotely-healthy. I'm not a violent person, but I just wanna slug him.

I'll be walking, but I'm in!

Phew. Glad I missed this one

Hi! I'm Sheryl, I just turned 49, married/divorced/etc. remarried and mom to a girl that's 10. I'm 5'3" if I stand up tall  I started at 297 (but had boycotted using a scale for so long, I was likely over that at some point). I started the road to getting healthier in July 2011 after a miserable plane trip. Funny how…

What have you noticed in terms of your clothing? Any change in how the waist or hips fit? or for me, the first thing to go down is the chest... *sniffle! :)

Pack a mirror in your bag. Whenever she starts going off about what you're doing, hold the mirror up so she can see herself.

This is my new favorite saying!

You've gotten some really good advice for foods and exercise options. I wanted to talk something else you mentioned... If she was really close to her grandparents, and you aren't doing this already, I highly recommend a support group for grieving children. The one locally here is Fernside, but if you Google "child grief…

I blame realtify tv. I think it's desensitized what little self-control people had over keeping their opinions to themselves. You don't always have to say what you're thinking! Proud of what you've accomplished!

Which one do you want to hear about first - Sir Never Blinks, or Chucky McT*ttyGrabber? Sir NB - we were originally going to Restaurant A, a modest but nice place I'd heard of, then he called to change plans because he didn't have a coupon for them, but he did for this other place, would I mind switching? No problem, I'm…

Your best option: "Sorry Mom, but I don't have access to it." and that's it, period. If you're really worried - corroborate her story with someone else - the brother, perhaps. Is money really the issue, or does he want her out for other reasons? He may be tired of her stuff, too! Don't lend her ANYthing. If you feel…

Don Miguel Ruiz is the author - a really good little book, gives a different perspective to "common knowledge"

congratulations on your baby, on joining MFP, and for breastfeeding! Win win win!

I got my daughter into the James Patterson "Witch & Wizard" series. She loves graphic art and has been making comic strips since she was little. She's all of 10 now and loves going to the comic book store. Gotta grow up a nerdette right!

Take a peek under "Groups", there's one for Fitbit users - LOTS of FAQs handled over there in the threads :) It tracks the # of steps taken during the day, the # of floors of stairs in a day, and calories burned from those and your base metabolic rate. It also records the time stamps of each activity so you can see on a…

I'm 5'3" if I stand up tall :) My goal weight is 150. I'm 49, will be 50 by then, and I think after all these years of toting around an extra 100-150 lbs that an extra 10-15 won't be that big of a deal. I may change my mind when I get closer, though, because then it will seem more possible.

Solo. My husband was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes a couple of years ago, but still eats like he always has - huge portions, too many sweets, and he rarely checks his sugar level. Makes me sad. He is really supportive of my journey, and says he's going to jump in. He joined the gym the same time I did but has only gone a…

I was just reminded of something my Dad (pastor for 40+ years, now retired) -- all the things that feel like really huge, important, life-or-death decisions about a wedding, really aren't. You need the 2 people getting married, a state-recognized official, and a license. That's about it! The flowers, the cake, the…

Beautifully said. When you're already feeling insecure and vulnerable, the least thing can derail you.

First, congratulations on your upcoming wedding! And for your weight-loss, that's so inspiring! Do they live close by, or far away? Any ideas from your parents what his new wife is like? She might be a lot nicer than he is. If they live close enough, maybe invite her to lunch, just the two of you? My husband has 4 sons…

Plan 9 from Outer Space - Ed Wood, Jr. I love - LOVE - this unintentionally goofy movie. LOVE it. and Arsenic and Old Lace, with Cary Grant. I love it when he loses his mind!

MFP is a brilliant place to make friends and support each other. Browse the forums a bit, or search the groups for folks your age, or with your weight to drop, etc. - something you have in common. Between that and logging your daily food and exercise, after a couple of weeks maybe you'll spy a trend of something you can…

I like them. I have one for lunch 4x a week as opposed to going out - saves me $10 a day and is healthier than most things I pick when I go out. I use all of them to mix it up. There's another brand, "Amy's", that is more "organic", if it's in your area (I get them at WalMart). You can read the labels and choose ones with…

Something occurred to me today. Last winter, between my belly and the winter coat, the steering wheel rubbed against me. Now, even with a coat, there's a couple of inches of space between. *happy dance! Take those victories where you find them and CELEBRATE!

It looked like your snacks are taking up a big part of your day... maybe swap some of those for healthier/lower calorie choices? I'm finding if I eat every 2 hours (but a smaller quantity than a full meal) that I don't feel hungry. And ditto on the water - keep a glass near you and instead of nibbling, take a few gulps of…

I'm with the others in that Girl 1 may not be obligated to reimburse her flatmates for stolen property. What DOES sound necessary is for there to be a firmer flatmate agreement - how boyfriends/overnight guests are to be handled, drug-use in the apartment, and so on. I don't think the majority of the house should be afraid…
