my blood pressure is fine, and I make most of my own food, so I don't track it at all. There is no reason to worry about sodium unless your blood pressure is sensitive to sodium.

You have to remember that many fruits contain high levels of SUCROSE, not just fructose. Some high sucrose fruits are: nectarines, mangoes, jackfruit, peaches, cantaloupe, apricots and bananas. These fruits will absolutely raise your blood sugar.…

I am insulin resistant, so I count ALL sugars, including those in fruit.

Yes, you will drop weight. There isn't any magical chemistry going on. There aren't imaginary toxins in your cells, holding on to fat.

oh yes, I have met that guy. At first I was tempted to argue with him, but quickly figured out there was no use.

CLeanses are stupid. I have yet to see one that has one shred of clinical evidence behind it, let alone one that identifies any of the so called toxins it supposedly gets rid of. If you suddenly go on a strict diet, after eating crap for years, you will drop weight. You're not dropping imaginary toxins.

I am on a low carb diet for medical reasons. the MFP protein goals are way too low, even for their so-called low-carb diet.

I love beer! my friends and I are avid homebrewers. Beer definitely contributed to my weight gain over the last couple of years. However, I think if I were forced to give it up completely, I would be really bummed out. So I try to go for quality over quantity, drink in moderation, and count the calories.

hpsnickers, thanks for your post. I have not tried paleo yet, but I'm very interested in learning more. I've had results similar to yours following strict low-carb (not paleo), but paleo sounds like somehting I'd enjoy eating more.

The way you were discussing low carb diets made it sound as if you think they are bad for everyone. I just wanted to bring up the fact that some people need it, that's all. Maybe I should have spelled out my health history in the first post, but I thought I covered it by saying "some people, not everyone". either way, I…

It seems to me you were giving unqualified advice yourself.

If insulin resistance were rare, this would be true, however, if you look around this site, there are MANY members who have insulin resistance and/or PCOS. and that is why I said low carb is best for SOME people. A lot more people than you seem to think.
-
by "people", I guess you mean my doctor, endocrinologists in general, and the multitude of studies that show insulin resistance causes weight gain?
-
My body does not know the difference between those sugars, so I cut out most fruit I get my nutrition from vegetables and low sugar fruit like berries. High sugar fruit is not "healthy" food for me.
-
my advice, honestly, is do that in reverse. From years of experience, I do better if I eat less carbs in the morning and more in the evening. It keeps my insulin and blood sugar even much better if I do it that way.
-
Waste of time and money, IMO. Your colon cleanses itself perfectly well every day. :)

Absolutely yes. I am insulin resistant. I CANNOT lose weight if I reduce calories without reducing carbs. I lose more weight on 1500 calories a day low carb than on 1200 low cal.
