Definitely better when the bellies don't get in the way so much. Much better angles. And for me, at least, more stamina and drive. GF hasn't lost as much weight yet, so I haven't noticed a difference in her drive :grumble: but I'm sure it's coming!

I think it depends on how fast you run. No, seriously. You get the most benefit out of aerobic exercise if your heartbeat is elevated for at least 14-20 minutes (benefits including an elevated metabolism for an extended period of time post-exercise). Unless you're jogging at a fairly slow pace it won't take 20 minutes to…

I feel doomed just reading about it! but it does sound like a great workout sans equipment. And I can just imagine the celebration when I flip an Ace over!

Thanks for the congrats, smendek. And I guess I can hijack my own thread for a moment to talk about quitting smoking  I started smoking at age 12 and over the course of the last 21+ years I've tried just about every method available to quit. I've done hypnosis, I've done replacement therapy, the patch, nicotine gum,…

Why is it that working out with weights does not affect your daily calorie numbers, whereas cardio exercise does? The weightlifting burns calories, too, right? And I would think it would be more accurate (say I moved 100 pounds 2 feet per rep for 3 sets of 12 reps. . .that would be simple to figure out the calories,…

Another pound down. I'm into the 260s now. . .first time in a looooooooong time! And I've started going to the gym again (also first time in a long time, but not as bad as it sounds since I've had rugby in the fall and spring). MFP Start: 280 Jan 7: 274 Jan 14th: 271 Jan 21st: 270 Jan 28th: 269 Neck: 19 down to 17.5 Waist:…

Hello and welcome, chwilson. I know that when I started logging my calories here it became pretty clear that I had not been eating nearly as well (or as little) as I thought I had. Definitely try to keep up on the logging every day. The Recipe section of the forums has some great ideas for every meal, so you should…

2.5 pounds for 911! Nice Job!

This weekend was a little crazy, what with a rugby awards banquet (BUFFET! BEER!) on Saturday and a crazy night last Friday. I would have been happy to have broken even for the week, but I still managed to lose 1 pound. Woot woot! MFP Start: 280 Jan 7: 274 Jan 14th: 271 Jan 21st: 270 Neck: 19 down to 18 Waist: 51 down to…

I'm a big fan of "free", so I do the Fitness On Demand from my cable company. Of course, just about all of those sell DVDs too, so you can try a bunch out on demand and if you find a series you really like you can buy the DVD.

I'm in Boston's North Shore.

Well, if not PB&J how about some nuts? They're filling and have a lot of (good) calories.

Well look at that. . I guess it IS Friday. MFP Start: 280 Jan 7: 274 Jan 14th: 271 Neck: 19 down to 18 Waist: 51 down to 50.5 Hips: 45 stayed at 45 Total Loss: 9 lbs and 1 1/2 inches. :drinker:

When they have the sweet treats then you can treat yourself to one bite of theirs. The extra walking will certainly earn you extra calories, too.

I got a magazine/book from my grocery store -- Taste of Home Comfort Foods. It's a diet cookbook with foods that don't seem diet at all (my lunch today was beef and spinach lasagna and last night I had a beef tenderloin dinner). It breaks the foods down by meal and calorie content. They even have a 2-week sample meal plan…

There is fat free "mayonnaise-flavored spread" out there, but I find that it's not really all that mayo-flavored. It is, however, very low-cal and it does keep tuna salad (or chicken salad) wet. My girlfriend won't touch the stuff, but I like it well enough to use.

Nice! 9 lbs. in ~2 weeks here, too!

Show me the money!

You've done an amazing job so far with your weight-loss. . .And you've got great skills aiming the camera at yourself!

I hear ya. The first week is always very inspiring with the big drop on the scale. I just finished my second weigh-in. The tools on this site are so helpful, and the people are fantastic!

Just weighed-in myself and I want to see my ticker progress, too. . .

Science geek time! work done does = force x distance, but 300 lb. Joe Shmoe has to apply more force to move the extra weight when running a mile, so 300 lb. Joe Shmoe would do three times as much work as 100 lb. Joe FitShmoe. However, on an exercise bike a lot of the weight factor is taken out of the equation, as both Joes…

Good for you (and it'll be good for Owen, too . . .what a cutie!). I'm on day 3 without cigs now. I consider myself a "professional quitter" having tried patches, gum, cold turkey, hypnosis, chantix, aversion therapy, rubber bands (don't ask), and just about every other method available for quitting smoking. I started…

Hi folks, I'm just starting my new year's weight loss and was looking for a quick and easy calorie counter. Stumbled upon this site and it seems like a great resource and community. Created by MyFitnessPal.com - Calorie Counter
