  • While the doc was correct that it could be diabetic neuropathy, what suggests did he give for controlling it? Neuropathy symptoms may abate if blood glucose levels are under tight control. What are your readings like? What was your last A1c?
  • What happens if you exercise? My FBG's didn't stabilize below 100 until I added 15-20 minutes of exercise before bed (nothing strenuous - slow cycling or walking) even though my PP readings were consistently in the 80-90 range.
  • Haven't read it, but I have diabetes, celiac sprue and Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Eliminating wheat and other grains was a pretty obvious choice and I've never felt better. Eczema that has plagued me since middle school is done, IBS flares are much less common, arthritis is much improved - the list could go on and on.
  • What finally did it for me was a diabetes diagnosis. I started eating "better" the next day, did some research (Bloodsugar101.com is a GREAT resource for diabetics! ) and decided that low-carb/high fat was going to be my new lifestyle. Once I lost a bit , I started to exercise. Feeling better became its own reward
  • I love both the cocoa almonds and the cinnamon almonds, although the cinnamon ones are a lot harder to find. I can't beleive i never thought to make my own almond butter with them!

  • Absolutely! cholesterol - was 207 now 161 HDL - was 37 now 53 LDL - was 136 now 89 triglycerides - were 169 now 86 and my A1c dropped from 7.3 to 5.2 the only thing that hasn't changed is my BP, which has never been a problem anyway ( was 106/71 now 104/62 )
  • Eggs are great if you like eggs. Cheese. Nuts. Lunch meat roll-ups. Leftovers from dinner. I like the Carbmaster yogurt, but unfortunatley it's not available everywhere (I have to make a trip to OH or WV for mine, so I treasure it while i have it). Other yogurts are off the table for me due to the sugar content.…
  • Ummm...no. Low carb/moderate protein/high fat is well- suited to those who have many pounds to lose and those with metabolic disorders. I think metabolic disorders is what you meant by "extremely sensitive to carbs" but you lost me at the parenthetical "very unlikely though" it is, in fact, EXTREMELY likely that someone…
  • Not familiar, so no idea about the JM meal plan. Honestly, you don't need a specific "plan" I get good ideas for meals from various Atkins, South Beach, keto and primal/paleo sites. In the end though, just set your macros at an acceptable level and stick to it. Divide those macros into meals (and snacks if you want/need…
  • So today, you had approximately 165 g carbs (160 net carbs) ... although if you were at a steakhouse their rolls are probably bigger than I selected. I suggest you add some vinegar and oil or ranch dressing to your salad - it'll feel more decadent and you'll feel more satisfied. Plus the fat in the dressing helped you…
  • Your diary isn't open, so it's hard to give any concrete advice or see to what extent you are indulging in those simple sugars. In general, losing weight improves insulin resistance. In general, carbs increase blood glucose. Carbs from grains, fruit and sweet treats raise blood glucose to a much more extremem level than…
  • Bananas. Hate them. However, i adore "fake" banana - the Runt candies and banana popsicles.
  • Floors and the kitchen are done every day (dog) I do a load of laundry every other day and iron once a week. Beds are made daily and linens changed once a week. Bathroom sinks, mirrors and counters get a daily wipe-down, toilets get a scrubbing every two days and showers and tubs get a once-a -week deep clean. Dusting is…
  • You're 18 years old. See if you feel the same way in 25 years with some arthritis and a sluggish thyroid.
  • Fellow Hashi here. i also have celiac sprue and diabetes, so I hit the metabolic trifecta. Gotta say that i feel MORE than 10X better since eliminating all grains (gluten for the celiac and hasi and all the rest for the diabetes)
  • I've been following a low-carb diet for 15 months. Since I'm diabetic, I'll be following it for the rest of my life
  • I log all medications and supplements. Some do affect my macros. Most affect my micros. And ..it helps me remember to actually take them.
  • Actually, weighing 322 pounds made me moody and tired. The blood glucose roller-coaster I was on made me moody and tired. My macros are set to 20% carbs which is 65 total grams per day. I usually end up between 30-60 total grams carbs (not net) for the day. The majority of my carbs come from vegetables and nuts, with a…
  • I pre-log every morning. Pre-logging is looking at the price tag before you make the purchase I know instantly if that pat of butter and sprinkle of cheese or bacon (mmm...bacon) is going to be a good idea. No more "a Blooming Onion has HOW MANY calories and serves HOW MANY people? *&@%#^!*&!!" scenarios at 11 PM. I don't…
  • I don't think they taste like anything. I like to make chia gel (4 T chia added to 2 cups of water. Stir and refrigerate overnight) and then add the gel (about 1/2 c) to my protein shake. The texture of the gel is vaguely like tapioca pudding - soft and squishy. You can add chia to any liquid and make chia "pudding" as…
  • Atkins would be one of the low-carb diets suitable for diabetics. You might want to look into diets that focus on low carb/high fat. There are several helpful groups on MFP where you won't get the amount of snark you'll find in the regular forums http://www.myfitnesspal.com/forums/show/411-low-carber-daily-forum-the-group-…
  • And cold! I drank mine through a straw. I did not experience any lows during my prep. I drank water, Diet Sprite and had a few sugar-free popsicles (just steer clear of certain colors....red for sure, and i think there's another)
  • I finally got fed up with my New Balance and just went to an actual running store ( Fleet Feet) yesterday. They were MUCH more through than the New Balance store had been. The gait analysis was free and the salesperson then brought out 4 pairs of shoes based on the analysis and what I wanted. All were nice and I ended up…
  • Love mine. Use it every day. I much prefer the elliptical to a treadmill.
  • Oh, the arrogance of the young! I've lost weight. I also lift and have since I started the weight loss. I still look like a melted candle. I'm sure things will continue to improve, but while I'm working on it, I need a great fitting bra and I like compression garments. My favorite is a Spanx knock-off full slip that scoops…

  • I'm low-carb due to diabetes and Hashimoto's ( and have celiac sprue as well, which made giving up grains even easier) My ratios are 20% carb/30%protein/50%fat and my diary is open. I've never felt better. My blood glucose is under tight control (A1C 5.2) and my lipid profile is greatly improved TC - 161 , HDL - 53, LDL -…
  • I really like both coconut flour, almond flour(meal) and flax meal. I have celiac sprue and am diabetic, so gluten free, low-carb and high fiber are necessities.
  • I'm heading to a running store (Fleet Feet) today. I've been wearing new Balance, but am not thrilled with them, so hopefully I get a new pair that I love.
  • @ KD - Didn't know about the protein giving you a bs spike. YIKES! ::Looks at my nuts and cringes:: Maybe these weren't such a good idea after all! [/quote] The rise from protein is much slower - I think about 50% of protein converts to glucose? Nuts are a nice choice, but I can't have more than 1-2 servigns per day as the…
