Daily, minimum 60 minutes, with a rest day every 7-10 days. If I don't exercise I get pretty grumpy. This ranges from walking through to high intensity interval training to endurance. I generally get through between 800 calories and 1400 calories burned per day, eating back about 75% of that.

Keep at it, you will see the changes eventually. Tips that have worked for me: Exercise, even if it's walking for a mile a day. Weigh & log absolutely everything, calories hide in some odd places. Grilled cheese sandwich for dinner - ok then, how much cheese, what kind of cheese, how many slices of bread, what kind of…

I hear your frustration having been sidelined through injury several times. It must be worse still to be doctor-mandated sedentary. 2-3 weeks isn't going to put you too far back fitness wise, so don't stress about that. My only advice is to heed their recommendations, but communicate with them throughout the follow-up…

Akvavit. 40% alcohol, flavoured with herbs and spices. Awful (sorry to the Scandinavians, who absolutely LOVE it).

Physically....Erm....looser? Bonier? Leaner? I lose weight in lumps, so plateau > lump > plateau > lump, when I'm about to drop another half kilo the fat feels a bit looser around my stomach and pelvis. When I lie in bed, my belly isn't as pronounced, so I feel leaner. Mentally...it takes a while for you to adjust your…

Depends on your weight & speed - running w/ HRM and GPS tracker outdoors gives me approx 1050-1100 calories per hour (7.5 miles per hour). As you get lighter though the burns drop off...

Hello! I'm a fellow running addict - training up to do a half marathon in October. I'm carrying a couple of injuries at the moment so having to manage them quite carefully; so 2-4 runs per week, short runs 10km (6mi), long runs 19-20km (11-12mi) and a lot of gym work. I'd love to connect with similar runners to hear their…

Map your progress visually as well as via weight / BF% Every 2 weeks I strip down to my boxer shorts, take a photo of myself in the same front-on / side on pose, and save them in a folder on my computer. Humiliating though it is (and it felt awful the first few times) especially when I see the same love-handles and bulges…

Hello, I went through a similar phase to this....ultimately it required giving all the clothes that didn't fit up to charity. The only things I've kept are clothes that are worthwhile altering, like business suits and expensive trousers - but there's limits to how well they will look / fit as the proportions of your body…

Forgot one - my wedding ring is now 1 size too large, and...I can't wear it any more. But I still have weight to lose so won't get it resized till ultimate goal weight. It sounds so suspicious explaining it. "Uh...no...see the thing is that when I got married I was fat, and now I'm thinner and trimmer and more buff,…

My biggest? Going through 2 business shirts a month. Hey, at least the ties still fit though. Other thing which has totally blindsided me - it's a mild winter in Melbourne, Australia at the moment, and I am so cold I have to wear gloves otherwise my hands get painfully cold. Never happened before, so I can only presume my…

Gardener here. So here's a quick biology lesson, they're a tuber. Which isn't quite the same as a root vegetable (like carrots, turnips, parsnips) and quite different from vegetable fruits****(cucumber, tomato, eggplant, courgette) or vegetable stems (celery, leeks) or vegetable leaves (lettuce, spinach). A tuber's purpose…

OK, so some tips on dogs (I have a dog and love them) They don't 'smell' fear as the myth goes, but they are usually curious and attentive and want to check you out, and will pay especial attention to you if you act uncertain around them (AM GOING TO CHECK THIS STRANGE HUMAN OUT, WHAT ARE YOU DOING STRANGE HUMAN). If they…

Distance running, when my body lets me. It's an addiction.

Hi, I experienced the same thing when going from sedentary up to running - found that the threshold was at 7km, then 11km, now it's about 15km. Other thing I found that helped was upping the intensity in the second half of the run. I use Endomondo as a run tracker, it gives me a km by km split so I set km targets for the…

Thoughts: Personally not something I support, for the following reasons: (a) apes, humans' closest genetic relatives, do not habitually eat placenta (b) The postpartum depression mitigation effects are disputed and there is no definitive medical or scientific research (ie one under controlled conditions, double-blinded,…

I've gotta go into bat for the men here as by 'people', breastfeeding women generally mean 'men' because men are far more likely to openly look / stare at breastfeeding women. Also before I commence I have a gorgeous wife & daughter and am totally pro breastfeeding wherever, whenever. I think breastfeeding is absolutely…

Absolutely correct. Ironically one of the contributors to high sugar intake is fruit juice - the perception that because it comes from fruit, it must be 'good' Fruit juice is astonishingly high in sugar without any of the added benefits of the fruit itself. You're far better off having a glass of water and an orange than…

One of my friends told me I was delusional. I was so shocked I almost fell off my unicorn!

Yep, absolutely. Sorry to hear you're going through it, too. Hey when you have NSVs and scale victories you kinda have to enjoy them on your own. You're in it for yourself, bunnylvr, weight loss is not a participation sport. My classics: * Wife was dubious about my commitment at the start, then lost interest because of the…

My ventral striatum. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2012/02/120222133431.htm MFP helps, but kind of...after the fact? I know you're all there in spirit when I'm swearing under my breath during interval training, but MFP doesn't get me out of bed in the morning or that extra 5 minutes on high on the treadmill.

I argue with strangers on the internet. It's carthatic and burns calories. You should see the definition in my typing fingers, yo.

I get pretty antsy if I don't burn off 350-500 in a day, 600-999 is good, 999+ is great, 1200+ is excellent. As other posters have added, I'll drop below the above threshold (happily) if doing weights or strength. 90 seconds of plank feels like 10 minutes on the elliptical....

Totally! We all love a golden gaytime, munching on gently grilled slices of tasty coon, as we wander down the beach in our thongs.... :o)
-
Absolutely correct - I've had this comment directed at me too - not so much an 'I'm taken' vibe but a 'This isn't a part of what's on offer' vibe. I frequently don't wear a wedding ring (especially since losing weight - both my proper wedding ring and my commitment ring don't fit any more) and am not particularly bothered…

Add me if you like - Kiwi (New Zealander) by birth, Australian by location. It's always interesting to see what people are doing / eating in the other hemisphere given the seasons are opposite!

Let's ask Dr Hannibal Lecter, he seemed legit in that documentary about the lambs or whatever...

Stupid q's that I couldn't work out from the leangains site or the thread... - is there a particular trigger or set of circumstances in which you should consider IF? Many of the posters in this thread seem to be in the low BF% range and cut like frickin marble sculptures; is there still significant benefit if you're (m)…

Hey I got told that every time you cut a piece of food in half, that's half the calories. So I've been having boston cheesecake smoothies for the past six weeks because they're like .0000001 calories, but I can't seem to shift the belly fat. Any hints?
