  • You might want to play around with the resistance, a lower resistance might allow you to row quicker for longer. There's lots of stuff on the concept 2 website on resistance. A lower resistance doesn't seem to equate to a lower intensity workout, although I struggle to fully understand this. I used to automatically stick…
  • I agree with some of the other comments - try not to compare yourself to others. Height and weight make a big difference, so if you compare yourself to a (reasonably fit) giant, your rows will always look slow. Unless you are a giant as well of course! One thing to do though is to make sure you have a good rowing technique…
  • I thought I'd make my goals public (with the logic that it gives me more incentive to achieve them if someone else knows about them)! Aspirational: 350K (based on 15K a day with only a few days off) Achievable: 250K (based on 10K for 25 days of the challenge) I'll start of aiming for the 350K.......... This is or course…
  • Almost made the 100K for the Holiday challenge. Two more rows should get there. On the seat debate I prefer the natural padding of the overweight. I've tried a gel seat, but found that to be unconfortable as well. I'm ok up to 1/2 marathon, when I did a full marathon I used the gel seat and a towel, but tbh by the end…
  • Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear, 2:30 was just an example of the 500m pace hence the "say", all I was trying to indicate was that you need to look at the 500m pace and then compare your "normal" rowing to when you put effort in, particularly with the legs. I don't do 2:30 pace btw ;)
  • There is a lot of info on the concept II website on technique. A few things that might help though. This advice is based on a concept 2 rower, different rowers displays/resistance etc may vary. Resistance – you don’t need to have it on maximum, and a lot of rowers have it much lower. Look it up on concept II website – it’s…
  • I am going to be on holiday until the 23rd September- so can only row from the 24th - I hope this is ok?
  • Anyone aiming to do the marathon challenge? I am. 1/2 marathon is not a problem, but have not managed a full marathon as I seem to get quite bad ankle pain around 21K. I have a good opportunity in May as I am on a 3 day training course (cheap hotel, no gym, so will go for long walks in the evening) so plan to train hard…
  • Some of the distances rowed are amazing, the story mentioned above is inspiring and demoralising in one. Inspiring because you think if she can do so can I (although 7 + hours on the rower a day is heading towards/has reached and passed the insane!), but demoralising because just as you think your own distances are…
  • Hi - 200 sounds about right (it depends on bodyweight), logging 45 mins of walking at 2.5mph on the mfp website gives around 200 cals.
  • I was thinking about some of the distances rowed. Some of the distances seem very high and at first seem impossible, but then I considered how much rowing I have done. I am not fit - quite overweight and getting thinner but not fit. I have managed to row at least 10K a day. So based on this, a fitty may be able to row a…
  • Well, as a team we're over the 1 million metres, well done all.
  • Well, I didn't want to cast doubt........
  • Better still - look at the average metres rowed - we're 8th overall. Interestingly looking at the individual standings the leader has rowed 92K a day. And I thought Eric was a bit mad (in a nice way!). By my reckoning that is 5-6 hours on the rower a day. And I thought I had too much spare time!
  • Tried the gel pad today for the half marathon - actually more uncomfortable than no pad - I guess I still have a bit of butt fat to lose :)
  • I think part of the reason I had to rest today was trying to do sprints a couple of days ago, I did a 500m, and 1000m sprint as part of the 10K - really felt it later! Longer distances at a more moderate pace seem easier - the sprints really hurt!
  • How's everyone getting on with the March Challenge? I had a day off today, legs went to jelly in the gym yesterday and felt the same today. Hopefully will be ok again tomorrow.
  • just started me thinking about how much food I could eat if I rowed 100,000m in one day! That would be 8-9 hours for rowing and I reckon about 7000-8000 calories.
  • Anyone done a marathon row? Does it hurt more than a 1/2 marathon? I am thinking of trying a full marathon but might leave it until the team challenge starts (and this also gives some more time for a nice gel seat cushion to be delivered!). Robin
  • Just joined the MFP team as well. Still on track for Mud Season Madness 10K. Amazed at how good I feel today, starting to think the 10K a day should be a long term thing. I guess I will likely to re-evaluate this later in the month!
  • 3rd day of 10K. all ok so far.... Just added both of you as training partners, my id is 991718.
  • I'd like to join the MFP team please. I went to the teams page but MFP is not listed as a team registered to take part in the world erg challenge - has the team been registered, or am I doing something wrong? Also doing Mud Season Madness 10K, at least starting it anyway.
  • Thanks - just joined group :)
  • I'm in please. Logged 2000m, 30 mins, 60 mins and half marathon in January - looking to improve in Feb. Is there an MFP team -I've seen some previous discussions but can't find a team on the concept 2 logbook?
