  • I've just joined. Haven't around much so looking to get back to it slowly. Also need to dig the garden and row on water so hopefully will lose weight for once!
  • I do a lot of indoor rowing, but I use a concept 2 at the gym. I did have a cheaper rower at home, but the there are a couple of drawbacks: 1 - space - whilst they (sort of) fold up they take up a fair bit of room, and are not everyone's idea of interior design 2 - noise - I would be nervous of using in a flat etc (not…
  • If your gym has a rower, give it a try. It's relatively low impact (check the concept 2 website for basic technique) I find logging my times and taking part in the concept 2 website motivating. Height and weight are an advantage on the rower, so your times will likely look good which it turn is motivating. MFP has a rowing…
  • It depends on your goals. If the marathon is the key focus you need to make sure you eat to fuel your training. If weight loss is the goal then perhaps eat back some but not all of the calories. I am heavy, but I also do a lot of rowing so my main goal is weight loss. However, I also do regular half marathons on the rower…
  • or.....they own several sets of identical kit! I tend to stick with kit that doesn't rub (on longer rows), fits well etc - once I find something I like I buy several.
  • Have a regular at my gym who uses the hair dryer on his pubes, and one who dries his chest hair!
  • just joined - looking to put in lots of rowing in January!!
  • one way of doing it is doing many shorter rows - I managed 50K this way once during a period of madness. The downside is that it takes a long time with all the rests. After a few hours the gym staff start looking at you a bit oddly as well......
  • updating now on a blog http://indoorrowingchallenges.blogspot.co.uk/

  • just to add there is loads on drag etc on the concept 2 website. I aim for 140 drag factor (about setting 4 on my machine) but I am very heavy with ok(ish) upper body strength which means I'm probably doing too much with my arms. It's whatever feels/works best for you really. And mid pack at an international comp would be…
  • MFP Friends is the correct name, ALL LEVELS ARE WELCOME. Set your own goal, set your mind to it, and row! January 2015, 26 MFPers rowed a total of 4,632,368m, averaging 178,168m each! January 2016, 18 MFPers rowed a total of 2,700,458m, averaging 150,025m each! How to join a team: http://log.concept2.com/team (Join "MFP…
  • 30/12/16, day 2, 24km from “Rose an Grouse” to Blackwater, another small hamlet in Cornwall. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1AK6UTyjRI4f2lxDYkltDMHmFNqw&usp=sharing https://www.flickr.com/photos/79556160@N08/11894824584/in/faves-59264245@N06/ https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Robin-Lancefield1 Stats so far: Distance…
  • Today I’ve virtually rowed 25km from Land’s End and ended up at “Rose an Grouse”, a small hamlet in Cornwall which appears to have a petrol station, a Jehova’s Witness Hall, St Erth Railway Station and a very red faced local. Looks like a fun night tonight!…
  • I treat it a bit like strenuous meditation! I have one eye on the pace and then my mind wanders off to a far far away place!
  • I'm in as well. Great timing for this challenge - I need to get back on track and also need to lose weight for a snorkelling hol at the end of Feb. Hopefully mid-way through can get back to 1/2 marathons.
  • I've just joined, but will only be rowing from the 29th as I am on holiday - I hope this is ok?
  • If you want to compare your times to others make sure you check out the concept 2 website (if you haven't already) - allows you to submit your times and has rankings for different age categories. Also make sure you make sure you're rowing technique is good - you can make some big gains if it isn't. I managed a 7:16 last…
  • looking ahead to the marathon challenge........ I might try to do some 30km rows in prep, should help the world erg challenge as well. Main issue with 30km is time (I'm blocking out 2 hrs on the rower, blisters, bum ache etc) I've only done 1 full marathon, in may 2014. They are a big jump from the HM. With a HM, after 1…
  • Nope definitely none in Boston! My problem is when travelling I might be able to find a hotel with a concept 2, but usually not in the price range my work will pay for.
  • I use newgrip rowing gloves, which work well for blisters, but I sometimes get numbness in my left arm after about 10K so usually take them off.
  • Two of my goals listed on my profile: - to not nearly pass out when climbing stairs - be able to buy clothes in a normal shop Both achieved (although only just for the second one!) after two years gym and sometimes eating sensibly. An added NSV, on holiday I went snorkelling, and to my horror realised the dive boat didn't…
  • blisters - why! I did 500K in January, and about 150K in feb, not a single blister. 2nd HM of March, a row of blisters my left hand, just where the fingers meet the hand. Grrrrrr. not enough to stop me rowing, just enough to add a little pain
  • Nice
  • 1st one done, slightly harder than usual, annoying cold probably to blame.
  • Mud Season Madness is the next big one
  • It always suprises me just how motivating the C2 challenges are. I did the mud season 10k last year and thought that was about my limit. Depite being a bit heavier than last March (I'd like to think the reason was concentrating on stronglifts 5x5, but more likely too much food and drink), I seem to be able to row further…
  • 350K complete. time to stop rowing........ On second thoughts, I've upped my target to 500K, should be able to do it by rowing a HM 6 of the 8 days left in january. I weighed myself on the last day of December, and have mostly been sticking to my calorie targets, so hoping for a big weight loss when I weigh in On the 31st…
  • 10th HM today. I keep expecting something to break every row. Last year during Mud Season it was my ankles getting sore @10K per day. So far all ok, apart from a few sores from where my shirt rubs (seems to vary with each row). An added bonus I am sleeping like a log (at my heaviest I had a few sleep problems, and still do…
  • Good rowing all - some great rows so far keep it up :)
