I do think it's important to allow yourself some foods that you like, as you don't want to experience total deprivation. Total deprivation is not a good plan and will eventually lead to abandoning your plan, IMO. My approach has been to look at my calories and weigh-in's on a weekly basis, still tracking all consumption…

Officially, I weigh myself once per week, Sunday mornings, after using the bathroom, and before breakfast. For me, daily weigh-in's may include some fluctuations (water, etc) that can give a false impression one way or the other.
