Exercise harder on the days you do, and cut extra calories that day and the day after. Also, alcohol can weaken your resistance, so make sure you don't start snacking while tipsy. I'm sure that was at least 10lbs of weight gain for me. I agree with you that I'm unwilling to cut alcohol from my life. It relaxes me and at…

It's amazing how the people you don't know can sometimes be the most supportive...mine is that I wasn't upset at myself when I looked in the bathroom mirror this morning!

1lb down this week...I was on track for 2, but my mother was in town over the weekend and we ate really well. I didn't go over my calorie goals (well, ok, 50 cal. over on Sunday) but I had been pushing for 2lbs. But I'll take even a small victory! My goal for last week was to drink 8+ cups of water per day. I also let that…

And forgot about the weigh in...1 lb down since last week. Gotta pick up the pace!

Yes! That is so true. I was always told "Denial is not a river in Egypt" and it's so true. You keep saying eh, it's only a couple of pounds or, well, I just washed my jeans of course they're a little tighter. Only way around it is realism and accountability--and this is a great reminder of that.

NSV! Tried on my dress for my mother while she was visiting this weekend and it felt distinctly looser than last time!

I find that having gum and something else to distract myself with really help. For example, if I'm having a craving then instead of eating I'll call one of my friends and talk to them just to distract me. Also, if you're already chewing gum, sometimes the minty taste makes the idea of salty food kind of unappealing.…

Thanks all, great ideas! Looking forward to trying them out.

Oh, I SO hear you. My fiance keeps saying that too. I can't decide if he really does think that or if he's mistakenly trying to be too supportive of the wrong thing. My thought is if I tell him I want to lose weight, can't he be supportive of that instead of my current weight? But anyway, I'd MUCH rather have that than…

Thanks for the invite, I'm in! And great to meet you all. I'm a 27-year old graduate student. I am 5'4" and I was 126 when I first started graduate school, and I'm now 156. I recently had an OB checkup (to renew my birth control pills) and the nurse said "you know, you've gained 30 pounds since you joined us [the school].…

I'm in! I'm going to set my ideal weight loss in that period as 8 pounds...I've tried getting started really aggressively before and it always backfires on me. I get frustrated if I'm not doing as well as I want, and when I'm frustrated I'm much more likely to backpeddle. I also just broke my foot so I can't exercise for…

Congratulations to everyone! I'm also a bride to be, getting married in August 2012. I am 155 and want to lose 25-30 pounds before the ceremony. Part of me wants to lose the weight so that I'll look great in my photos and for all of my friends and family, but a larger part of me wants to do it for ME. I'm skeptical that…

"Do it for yourself, not for anyone else. YOU are worth it, whether you're a bride-to-be or not! The prospect of being the center of attention at a wedding may provide a little extra motivation, but the ultimate goal is being the healthiest person you can be. It's not just for the wedding, it's for the rest of your life."…

I had problems with numbness in my toes as well with a pair of Brooks shoes. I just got a pair of Mizuno's. I love them because they're light and very supportive and they have a very wide toe box, so I don't get the numbness any more. They even came in a great color! I'm now a huge Mizuno convert, especially for running.
