  • I get hungry when I'm close to the weight my body really wants to maintain. If you think your weight is still too high, try eating maintenance calories a little while, then trying to lose again. Plateau isn't a bad thing if it's under your control.
  • It would be nice if all the adults in her life were on friendly enough terms that could agree to avoid making food an occasion for her to get special attention from one of them. I've seen too many families where giving the kid treats seemed to be a competition between warring parents and grandparents.
  • and why don't you have grass growing all over it?
  • What I am suggesting is that you get a food scale and start making precise measurements. Do it like a scientist collecting observations. Small inaccuracies make a difference when they are repeated every day.
  • I used to do that; now I have the iPhone app for MFP and it does it for me -- and makes it fun to bop around my kitchen barcode scanning my foods. I can't open your spreadsheet, though.
  • I was really shocked how many calories are in most salads, even without dressing. The croutons and cheese are stealth calories, and you feel virtuous eating salad in quart size portions.
  • You don't have to change everything at once. And lots of fun food is actually healthy in moderation, like pasta with tomato sauce. You like peanut butter sandwiches. How about apple or banana slices with peanut butter?
  • The only thing a diuretic pill does is force your kidneys to waste sodium. You wouldn't need it if you hadn't eaten the sodium in the first place. Read labels. You'd be surprised how much is in foods, even if you don't add table salt.
  • 1. You don't go back exactly to your prepregnancy weight, even if you are exactly as fit. Your ribs and pelvis expand. It improves your lung capacity, but it takes more flesh to encircle you now. 2. Are you breastfeeding? Even after your baby empties you, your breasts will weigh more, and you tend to store more fat on your…
  • Indian food stores. Champagne mangoes from Mexico. $4 a crate. Yummmm.
  • I'm looking at your diet and seeing very round numbers. 1 tsp coffee creamer, 100 g apple, etc. Are you actually measuring, or are you assuming the portion sizes listed in the database are typical? Those are actually quite small portions. Get a food scale and measure everything. Measure things like coffee creamer by…
  • So disappointed! I was hoping I could eat mangoes and lose weight! The season approaches!
  • I didn't read the forums there, since they require registration. I read their blog on Tumblr. It's curious. Clearly, they're saying what they need to say to get eating disordered people to log in. But then they ask them reflective questions. The lack of self insight is a big part of eating disorders. And people with eating…
  • So many people who have recovered avoid photos that they consider triggers, it can't be a good idea for people who are actively ill to look at them. And it's bad enough they are competing against an imaginary image in their heads, let alone real people competing to lose the most weight.
  • You guys are going to ruin chocolate mousse for me!! But getting serious, if by "fluffy," you mean floating in the water because it full of air bubbles, that comes because you're eating something indigestible and the bacteria in your colon are forming gas from it after you're done digesting it. A lot of diet foods can do…
  • MFP doesn't have a speed close to my preferred treadmill setting, plus I add some slope, so I use the output from the machine. It uses my weight to calculate it. I've never used a HRM, but I'm not getting any unexpected results from calculating my exercise calories that way. MFP tends to estimate low for me because it…
  • Cheat on the food, but never on the logging. It's like that old Ogden Nash poem about sins of commission and sins of omission. You don't enjoy the latter, so you should only engage in the former.
  • Look up your foods in the USDA database: http://ndb.nal.usda.gov/ Add up all the vitamins, not just the things MFP lists. Just looking at your diet generally, I would want to know your totals of vitamins A, C, D and K, as well as iron and calcium. If your meal is 1/4 protein (meat/fish/poultry/dairy/egg/legume whatever),…
  • Oh, yes, when I want it a little special :) I also sometimes use a little cinnamon, a little almond or mint extract, or a shot of brandy. So many ways to love chocolate!
  • Your diary looks like you're leaning on a small variety of foods, that they tend to be processed diet foods, and that there are a lot of hard to measure items like nutella and mayonnaise. It's likely you're getting more calories than you think, and it's likely you're missing important nutrients. You need 100% of all your…
  • I have it every morning. Get very hot water (I have a hot water tap, but I nuke some water in the microwave if I don't.) Add some Hershey cocoa powder and stir until smooth. Add skim milk and microwave. I used to add splenda, but now I just prefer it "black." The cocoa actually adds protein and very few calories. The…
  • I use a smart phone and log as I eat. But if I didn't, there's no way I would succeed if I was trying to remember to log later.
  • You're learning to eat a new way, and you're going to do it the rest of your life. Eating in a way that is unsustainable, either because it's nutritionally lacking or because you're unhappy, is a waste of time. It sounds like this is about more than just food. This is upsetting you more than it is motivating you. You might…
  • The OP is right. If you like drinking 8 glasses a day, great. If you're forcing yourself to drink water when you find it unpleasant, it could be your body trying to tell you that you're making yourself sick. Especially if you are on certain blood pressure medicines that cause your body to lose sodium. You should drink what…
  • There are days I go way over, but I always try to log, even if I just add in the number of calories I know I'm capable of eating in one sitting.
  • If you don't urinate frequently, it means your urine is concentrated. What you consider waste, bacteria consider yummy. Bacteria reproduce by dividing themselves in half and having two new bacteria. No sex, no pregnancy, very quick. They can do this every 20 minutes if conditions are ideal, and the warm, wet, yummy…
  • If you're in enough pain that you are hesitant to put your weight on your foot, it's easy to reinjure it by stepping on it the wrong way and losing your balance. Your dad is right. I'm not one of the believers in eating a net of 1200 regardless of exercise, but if you're young, I suspect your goal is way below your actual…
  • You asked to lose 2 lbs a week. The MFP fairy didn't make promises. It isn't a realistic goal if that is your BMR. I'm in a similar situation. I've lost plenty, it just takes patience. On the other hand, I'm not hungry at all. I feel great.
  • If it's all about not wanting to reproduce your previous binging triggers, try ordering your beloved burrito without the sour cream. Before eating it, open it up and add an equivalent amount of nonfat Greek yogurt, then roll 'er back up. It alters the ritual and saves calories too.
  • Forget pictures. Imagine you have to carry two gallon jugs of milk in a backpack all day, every day, wherever you walk, whenever you exercise, up and down stairs, during sex, etc. Imagine how good it would feel to finally get to take off that backpack. That would be like losing 16 lbs.
