What the OP is getting at is you NEVER finish your weight loss journey. You just plateau at the weight where you are satisfied. If you're thinking, "I'll deprive myself until I reach my goal, then I'll be able to eat xyz food," you're setting yourself up to regain the weight. You have to calculate xyz food into your diet.…

You burn some calories, especially if you get cold enough to shiver and get goose bumps, both of which burn up lots of calories. But most people don't stay in a cold shower that long unless it's really hot outside, in which case your metabolism is lower than normal all the time you aren't in the shower. Swimming tends to…

I would recommend that if you are exercising that much and you have changed unhealthy eating habits, just carefully log everything you're eating and see what your body does under its own guidance. You may lose weight just by eating according to your own appetite. Nothing terrible is going to happen to you if you eat what…

It's telling that people are accusing him of supporting gay marriage for political purposes. Four years ago it would have been political suicide, not political pandering. Karl Rove was putting gay marriage referendums on state ballots all over to increase turnout among religious conservatives, and a lot of Democrats…

If your activity level is coming out that high, any inaccuracy is figuring your calorie consumption during exercise could throw you way off. Regardless of how you calculate your exercise calories, you may have to make adjustments if your weight changes over time don't seem to conform to predictions.

If this is new and he sees no reason for it, he should see his doctor. Those could be the symptoms of diabetes, among other diseases. A friend or relative with a diabetes monitor could check for him to make sure it's not too urgent to wait for an appointment.

Start either place. Colon cancer is even less common than ovarian or cervical cancer in a 25 year old.

Agree with everyone else, it's not normal for it to be uncomfortable like that. At your age, real bad stuff is rare, but it can happen, so you should not ignore a change of bowel habits. Many people are constipated because they're too busy to be regular. Your bowels depend on your brain. Normally they start moving when you…

Ok, hard to know then. If you've got 60 lbs to lose and are trying to do 1390 calories, sounds like you're trying to lose more than a pound a week. I would try to be less ambitious. Make sure that the calories you are eating are covering all your nutritional needs. If you're missing any important nutrients, the calories…

Get a smartphone. Use the mobile app. Always log as you eat. I have found that one factor has made all the difference for me. Get a food scale, plus a second one for work if you eat food that you didn't pack for yourself. Eat what you want -- but not as much as you want as often as you want. You don't have to live the rest…

Your profile says you joined in January 2012 and have lost 17 lbs since then, and that your goal is to lose 30 lbs total. So that means you lost 17 lbs in less than 3 months, though you were only 30 lbs over your goal? 13 more lbs isn't "a lot of weight to lose." Don't be impatient. Imagine your weight is like an airplane…

Unfortunately, just because you would like to lose 85 lbs doesn't mean your body wants to lose 85 lbs. It's not like you can just turn a dial and be any weight you want and still be healthy. You may be plateauing because this is the weight your body considers minimum. I know that if I get down to a certain weight, I very…

I eat them occasionally, but they're high sodium and often high sugar to make up for the low fat. It's not something you should eat every meal as if it's a do-it-yourself Nutrisystems meal plan. Given the limitations of what survives cooking and freezing, I suspect you would be consistently missing the same nutrients every…

It could be "centripetal obesity," which is fat that is around the internal organs instead of under the skin. It is correlated with PCOS/prediabetes. It's very hard to get rid of. There's a lot of research being done about why some people have it. Some people are extremely rotund in the trunk, yet have limbs like…

If you say you'd only do it if you could control who found out about it, don't do it. Are you in a relationship? Does your significant other get off on the idea of you naked in front of a lot of strange men? Would you want to be in a relationship with a person who did find that arousing? If you are making the decision out…

Eating 10 calories a pound works for very few people. Two people who are the same weight but different height, age and/or gender will need different calories. If you eat the same calories at age 50 that you ate at age 25, you will gain weight.

Maybe you don't need to lose any weight.

14 page threads where everyone is posting, but no one is reading. Sorry if someone already said that; I don't have time to read the whole thread. ;) Seriously, I don't get pissed, but it would be nice if there were fewer threads from people who joined two weeks earlier wondering why they haven't lost weight yet and pushing…

if you have a way of lowering the chin up bar or raising your feet, so your body is at an angle and you're only lifting the weight of your upper body, it could allow you to do enough to build strength. Sort of like doing push ups with your hands on a chair or table instead of the floor -- more reps and toning instead of…

I tried them a while ago. I had no trouble with the fishy odor. I've used Nam Pla (Thai fish sauce), so I knew how much cooking at high temperature changed the taste of stuff like that. I dry-fried them just on my gut instinct. But I wouldn't think of them as a replacement for wheat pasta. I think of them as a replacement…

Only if it's somehow more strenuous than what you would be doing otherwise. It's only the difference between what you do and what you normally do that counts. So walking instead of sitting uses calories, but standing in the kitchen instead of standing at a cash register at work doesn't.

Senna isn't mild, just because it's herbal. It's a stimulant and can cause laxative dependence.

Your digestive tract is a living environment full of the digestive enzymes your body produces and the bacteria that eat your waste products. Any changes throw off the balance. Once you have ruled out sprue, and you only have to worry about how you feel, you can try to introduce the foods you like in small daily quantities…

Take them both to the doctor next time you go.

I like sucralose, but more and more I just don't sweeten things. I've come to prefer cocoa with just cocoa and milk, no sweetening at all. You can drink a LOT of it without getting tired of it. I really look forward to my cocoa.

I eat less wheat just because of the calories. But I don't feel any different if I eat wheat or rice or quinoa. Trying to say some food is responsible for people being fat seems like a cop out. We're overweight because we have the money to eat more and do less physical activity. We didn't drink a lot of soda when I was a…

A history of eating disorders can be an issue, especially bulimia. Some gluten intolerance is due to sprue, and if so, eating gluten causes a risk of cancer. (Most people who say gluten bothers them don't have sprue, however -- you would need to have your doctor test you.) If your body tells you it doesn't want those…

People will jump on me, but I don't worry about eating under 1200 net if my exercise brings me under. I eat all my exercise calories if I'm hungry or just have something I want to eat, and I don't worry about them if I don't. I do try to eat 1200 calories even if my exercise brings my net under it.
