Yes! I also have issues with deodorant. My doctor wants to put me on spirolactone (I also have PCOS, it's supposed to help with that), and she said one of the wonderful side effects is a reduction in body sweat- so I'm hoping that will help. It's like a frustrating double-edged sword though because aluminum (present in…

We've got a couple of new members. Come on in an introduce yourselves!

GAH, what a terrible time to flare :( I don't know how comfortable you are sharing, but most of my friends know about the HS too, so they understand when I can't get out and do something. I know you posted this a bit ago, how did the rest of the move go? Congrats on the new place!

Hi Kristi! Welcome to our small group :) It sounds like you've got a pretty severe case. I'm sorry Primal hasn't done much to help your HS. How does it differ from Paleo? Also, how long did you eliminate nightshades for? Do you eat any grains? I've heard excellent things about hibiclens! My HS is pretty mild though, so I…

Thanks! I'll look into this tonight :)

I've been doing a lot of research on this since you emailed me, and I'm planning on starting as soon as I get back from my interview this weekend. Because I'm a vegetarian, I have a few extra hurdles to figure out so I can get sufficient protein, but I'm excited to at least try. I also went to my doctor yesterday and had…

Hey everyone who has responded here since the last time I was here... come on over to our support group! You should be able to just search for Hidradenitis (I think I left out the suppurativa). Come and join us. We're a small group, but there's some decent discussions.

Hey Lianne, Welcome! Tell me more about this contraceptive implant. Is it one of those IUDs? I head the implanting was pretty painful! CharlieBarley is having great success with a Paleo diet, and I'm about to give it a shot myself, see if it helps out any. I hear ya about the HS and weight. It's so frustrating because you…

Goodness gracious ebby, sounds like you've been through a lot! Our group is small, but we're here for each other to comfort and listen. I don't know where you are located, but if you're on the east coast of the U.S., you might want to consider contacting the National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD) to see if you can…

Yeah, I am going to look at gluten free and paleo and see if that helps. Gotta wait a few weeks until I get some free time to clean out my kitchen (all my upcoming weekends are booked, and I have about an hour at home each day), but I plan to do that soon!

What kind of relief are you getting? Are the flares less intense? Less often?
-
Yeah, I'd love to start eating meat again. Every time I've had so much as a tiny taste though, I start to feel nauseous. I don't think my body can metabolize the proteins :/

The big draw back for me with paleo (and many other diets) is the fact that I'm a vegetarian. I have been vegetarian since age 3, so as much as I'd like to change that, I just can't. I'm *always* deficient in protein. I'll definitely try the almond milk. Do you know if other forms of dairy (mostly thinking greek yogurt,…

Did you ever get to the bottom of this? I hate beans, but I need to add in non-dairy sources of protein. Now I'm afraid beans might make me flare!

Sorry to jump on an old thread, but yes, exercise makes me flare too. I've found that showering immediately after the workout combined with lower-sweat exercises really helps. Another option is to combine high sweat exercises with a quick shower and a swim in the pool. I find the chlorine does wonders for the skin. It…

First of all, congrats on that big active site closing up! That's huge :) I've read about paleo, and I actually own the book eat to live, but my concern is similar to yours. I love warm food. Warm food makes me happy. I know that sugars cause a lot of problems for my skin and waistline, so I largely eat less processed…

Boy, I hope remicade gets approved here in the states if it's working! Happy it's doing a good job for your mom :)

That's fantastic! I've not heard of radiation therapy for HS. Is this only in Europe, or are other places using this as well?
-
There are some really great tips here. Welcome, everyone, I'm glad you've all found this place! In addition to diet, I've found some things that are really helpful for me. I'm not sure if they will help others, as it seems like everyone's case of HS is different. I have a ritual I do daily where I check each of my main…

I think you might have aimed that reply at the wrong person. Did you mean to send that towards SJane? I have absolutely no intentions of getting surgery. This new treatment is non-surgical, it's an IV drip of antibiotics, and at the moment seems to be pretty promising. I'm not looking for any quick fixes.

Hmm, I always called the whole thing the pit. But yeah, mine are all over the pit.

That's incredible! Congrats :)

Charlie, I didn't even think about getting this all laid out with HR and FMLA. Thankfully mine isn't too bad at the moment, but you never know how things can turn. I should definitely do that. I hear you on the dental thing too. I've used my dental so much this year that I've officially run out of services. They can't do…

Lots of really good stuff here. I had what I needed long ago, and I thought the thread had died (as it should have). Sorry I haven't responded to anything for hours. I had an experience on the way home. Thought I'd share. It's a long story but I'll try to keep it short. I live in the Washington DC area. I was driving home…

Thanks so much! I've been looking for a site like this for ages!

That makes a lot of sense.

I wanted to, and I tried, but the edit button is gone. Not sure why.

Hey now, I liked my Kindle. I'll probably save up for a Nexus 7 instead though.

I know it shouldn't keep me out of the gym, and so far I haven't let it. I've been seething with anger, but I've been going. Any advice on getting over the anger? Thanks.

He's not going to reply. He's kindly agreed to remove himself from the discussion. I absolutely appreciate all your support and willingness to defend me. Thank you. I also appreciate his willingness to remove himself.
