In Canada it is good old protectionism. It has helped in one way. I love ice cream, particularly Hagan Daaz, but since it is about $8 a pint, I find myself rarely eating ice cream. Granted fruits and veggies are priced well, but dairy, meat and fish are insane. Growing up in NYC, I never knew anyone to buy frozen fish, now…

Does anyone else find dieting difficult outside of the US because of the cost of food? I drive across the border once a month to buy food in the States since meat and dairy are often 30-50% higher in Canada. Buying organic isn't even an option unless I hit the lottery. I do my best, but I imagine prices in other countries,…

I am an Expat living in Canada. Yes I know that is not as much of a culture shock as US to Europe or Asia. I've been in Toronto for three years. I also moved here from NYC to be with the love of my life. But the immigration process has really soured me to whole thing and I am eager to return to the States. Fortunately, my…

I have been a Coach for a week and back on Shakeology for just over a week. If that invalidates my opinion fine, but it has helped with my cravings. My birthday was this past weekend and at my dinner party there was an entire Red Velvet Cake. I had a slice, i mean it is my birthday, of course I will have cake. But the rest…

I love Shakeology. I am a Coach, but a new one. I tried Shakeology when it first came out and I hated it. I am not a fan of chocolate, so I assumed it wasn't for me. Now that it comes in other flavors, it is how I start my day. I buy Vanilla. Today's shake was a 1/2 cup of orange juice, 1/2 cup of water, scoop of vanilla…

Maybe it's better to call foods healthy and unhealthy rather than good are bad. Some foods, no matter how good they taste or make you feel have little or no nutritional value. While some foods that have amazing health benefits taste bad. Also some foods that are nutritious like potatoes, lose some of there benefits when…

Potatoes aren't bad for you, the only problem is that they are so amazingly delicious that eating them in moderation is hard. I love mashed potatoes so much that I have been known to treat them like an entree and have my meat and veggies on the side. Sometimes I can't resist getting spoonfuls while I"m cooking it. Fries, I…

I think it is best to take it easy from the start. Hopefully i won't have to do the entire 9 weeks of C25K before I start to feel strong again. Even in my recovery, a few weeks ago I couldn't push the cart at the supermarket and a few days ago I lugged 2 bags of groceries 3 blocks, so progress happens and sometimes fairly…

I'm not sure since I haven't done any physical activity since mid-December. I actually still have stitches on my stomach from my surgery. Maybe if C25K feels to easy then I would move up to the 10K program.

I never tried her other workouts, but I heard they were challenging as well. i hadn't thought about Cindy in years, but the other day my husband and I were watching The World's End and they played that song Loaded in the film. When I heard "We want to be free, we want to free to do what we want to do," I had flashbacks of…

I used to struggle with stairs the day after a Cindy workout. I guess I will see if that still holds true tomorrow

Finally did the workout and I understand why I was so fit in my teens and early twenties. Cindy really kicks butt. I have done Insanity 3 times and just about every Jillian Michaels workouts and Cindy Crawford is still a challenge. I think it might be back into my rotation.

I decided to make turkey stock with leftover holiday turkey and I threw the pulp in there. This was my first time making stock from scratch and re-purposing pulp and it was a success. I also threw in some carrots, celery and onions in the stock. After simmering almost all day, I discarded the pulp and veggies and made…

I've never done a cleanse. So good luck to you. I hope those hunger pangs go away

Found this on pinterest, dozens of pulp recipes http://www.pinterest.com/juicersbest/pulp-recipes-what-to-do-with-leftover-juice-pulp/

Pulp bread or crackers sound like a good idea. Glad to see there are so many options.
-
Soups and stocks sound like a great idea. I think next time I will separate the fruit and veggie pulp so I can use the veggie pulp in cooking. I may also use some of the pulp in smoothies too.

I want to try orange juice. I think it would be great to have fresh fruit juices. So far I have made green juices with veggies and some fruit for sweetness. But I love that I have options.

I get that everyone isn't interested in juicing. But there is really no need to discourage those who like to or would like to. My husband bought me an expensive juicer for Christmas and it will be used. I hate the taste of kale, but juiced and mixed with other veggies and fruit it is quite good.

The windchill was -7 F today with snow expected this weekend. I officially give up on winter running. Going to visit some gyms and hopefully join one soon and hit the treadmill until spring.
-
I've done both. Insanity is more challenging than 30DS, but I would recommend Jillian Michael's Body Revolution over Insanity. Insanity is primarily cardio, with any strength/resistance training coming from body weight exercises. It moves at such a fast pace, there isn't much emphasis on form. JM Body Revolution is more…

Thanks bttrthanevr, But I guess my dedication ended there. I didn't run the Santa Shuffle 5K this morning. I was ready for the race, but my husband picked a fight with me this morning. By the time I got there, the race had already started. I thought about just running a 5K on my own in the park, but I can't workout when…

Treadmill All The Way!!!!
-
Good luck, that bridge looks kinda scary, but with all the people and the rush of the race it looks like it could be a lot of fun. I'm doing the Santa Shuffle 5K Race in Toronto in the AM. The Wind Chill is going to bring the temperature to 11 F at race time. I am started to question why I signed up for this.

I wasn't feeling well today, struggled to get out of bed and even then fell asleep again on the sofa. When i woke up my daylight hours were gone and I was going to just say today was a loss, but there is an elementary school near my house with a mini track with lights. I was still very lethargic, but I got the slowest 5K…

You actually should change out your shoes every 6 months, sooner depending on your miles. You should go to a running store , they will have you get on a treadmill and analyze your gait and fit you for proper shoes based on how you run. This will help minimize injury. Stretching is sooooo important. i do dynamic stretching…

Never run on concrete, you are kidding right. Where do you think people who live in cities run, on the sidewalks made of concrete.

I'm an American living in Toronto now. Trying to live a healthy life, but damn groceries are high. I head to Buffalo as often as I can to shop.
-
Yes, but it can lower your immune system and make you more susceptible to viruses and bacteria and let's not forget hypothermia if you aren't dressed properly.

I have yet to run in freezing rain, hail yes, drizzle yes and summer rain love it. Still after i cool down on a run on a cold day, I am freezing for hours afterwards. This is after being indoors, showering, eating/drinking something warm. The other day it was 14 degrees, my husband thought I was crazy for turning the…
