  • Get a fitbit and get in as many steps and stairs as you can. While I was restricted from the gym (surgery) I used my fitbit to get me moving, 10k steps and 10 flights of stairs daily burns a whole bunch of calories, and you can do it like I do, if I would use a phone to call someone on a different floor at work, I get up…
  • Never too old, I'm 57 and have lost 55 lbs in the last 9 months.

  • To the poster of this, you do realize the eat 1,000 burn a 1000 crowd is going to take that as gospel and only read the first sentence, :)
  • kind of depends, is your net like 900 without the 350, if so you do need a few more calories. On exercise days try front loading a bit, add a snack or something to a meal earlier in the day so you don't end up with a bunch left and no hunger. You should try to hit 1200 net, trust me it works if you can keep that net 1200…
  • Processed foods are the biggest downfall, try to do more freshly cooked foods, it's easy to run your calories up by using a few healthy fats like olive oil, avocados (if you dislike that then never mind :) ) most beans, get them low salt or rinse them good. Ground turkey is low fat and can be seasoned up and used like…
  • I think the end of your sentence is more to the point of why folks got annoyed " and a poor choice for dieters generally". That says you feel they are in general a poor choice, hence the reaction to your post. Most would agree as a primary source of protein not good but most would not choose nuts as a primary choice hence…
  • Love my fitbit but to be honest, there is a ton of great info already on the forums, if you use the search function and fitbit I think you will be surprised how many threads you will find, it is a very common topic.

  • A lot of the weight loss especially if you have suddenly changed your diet for the better is often retained water, have you lowered your sodium and upped your water? He is right about bacon being good and high in calories lol. There are lots of ways to increase your calories, good lean meats, nuts and nut spreads, whole…
  • If you follow the concepts and are a thourough logger, eat healthy as possible and don't go over you will lose it trust me.
  • I would go slow returning to a diet that includes carbs, add them back in slowly and make sure they are healthy carbs, not white carbs like breads and pastas. If you go slow and stay on a healthy track you should be able to increase without a bunch of issues. You will need to log religiously though and watch your calories…
  • Sounds like the "gluten withdrawal flu" but then you compounded it with the caffeine and the sugar withdrawals, so you were coming off 3 drugs at once, yikes. All three at once were a heck of a detox, hope you drank tons of water while you were detoxing. As you stay gluten free don't get bored with eating salads there are…
  • 10 inch Acer Iconia, love it, my hubby wanted my IPad so he got me the tablet, crosses over into pretty much everything I do.
  • Scales are an approximation, you just need to keep it in the same spot all the time, not move it around. To make it more accurate you would need to have it perfectly level, a fully charged battery, and calibrate it every now and then with an absolute weight. As long as it is kept in one spot a lb is a lb.
  • This is really funny, this seemed at the beginning to be a true question and now it is a bash folks who limit their friends list, lol. I notice some of the most biased posts against any limiting of who can send you a friends request are from folks who have recently come to MFP, I would like to see you revisit this topic…
  • I have a number of friends who hover around the 1200 mark and frequently under, they are trying to get it consistently up but it's a daily fight, I do have trouble when I add someone and they are eating 1,000 of junk food so if they can't or don't want to improve that then sadly we part ways. It isn't truly the number of…

  • Only for a moment I felt old when my grandson turned 18 and again when he graduated high school. Next old benchmark will be my oldest daughters 40th (not till 2014 thank goodness).
  • Just saw a news report last night and they were saying around 1-2 a day is fine. However, other schools of thoughts say more is ok, but I hope you have no history of cholesterol issues in your family, you might check with your doctor and have him do a cholesterol check, if it's fine then you are not doing yourself any harm.
  • I would definitely measure and then either try them on or go to a website that specifies measurements. Being an apple I feel your pain, I would be in a 14 at this point if it were not for my waistline. Hang in there, don't do fad diets as you can't spot reduce, the fat in your tummy is not "special" like the ads say. Just…
  • I had surgery recently, not anything that dramatic but my fitbit helped me stay on track for the month before the surgery when my doctor cut me off from the gym and the month after. Getting 10k steps and 10 stairs (not right away for you) is quite a challenge but I continued to lose weight even while I couldn't "workout".
  • Fry yours without the breading, and get used to it if you want to be successful. I end up most nights cooking something for me and then something somewhat different for the other 4 folks in my house. You can get no sugar added treats for yourself or if you have no self control (I used to be that way) look on the recipe…
  • I too do a lot of prelogging and then add stuff to early meals so I don't end up with a lot of calories at the end of the day.

  • Lol, you should look at mine sometime, there are lots of us that can make our calories cough up a lot of food and we lose weight just fine and we are rarely so hungry we binge.
  • I just don't track it, carbs are enough info for me, I am a veggie/fruit freak anyway.
  • Wow, this has gotten terribly convoluted, a single study of any kind is in truth not yet fact if it is the first study of it's kind (pretty rare these days) however, most studies that are taken as factual are based on testable hypotheses and theories, if a theory is tested often enough it is accepted as fact. Now, if it is…
  • sugar free Jello pudding cup. or one tablespoon of dark chocolate dreams peanut butter.
  • First, the diet stuff is important, but I would ask your doctor about compression socks, they are getting amazing results for folks, especially truck, bus, etc drivers that are using their legs but not getting up and moving around enough.
  • I have to agree, the investigations into "liver detox" programs is that most can do more harm than good. http://www.ebm-first.com/dietary-detoxification-detox.html Now if the detox is switching to clean eating and lots of water, more power to you.
  • Since your diet is private tough to give any advice there but since you are over 40 there is a plethora of reasons. Weight fluctuates on it's own, water retention, regularity, exercise, a hard day of yard work, too much sodium. There are lots of reasons for it to fluctuate, 6 lbs in a week is a lot so some of that might…
