I've been gluten free for 12 years and dairy for 4 years, it isn't real hard, there are so many healthy alternatives now. If you like cow milk taste check out coconut milk products. There are lovely flour mixes that substitute cup for cup into your own recipes. There are a couple of brands of margarine that contain no milk…

First time in my life, lighter than my driver's license, lol.

I do agree with the free weights as being more overall, however, there are plenty of folks out there that if it weren't for the machines would be getting no strength training at all. I'm a perfect example, lots of negotiation convinced my doctors to take off the leash on lifting over 40 lbs but only on the machines. As a…

They say you can't spot tone but even at my age (57) I have seen significant improvement in that area. I do strength training 3 days a week and it's slow but it's definitely looking sooo much better than it did when I started. After I lost the first 50 pounds i looked like a melting ice cream cone. Not so much now, lol.…

Two notes, around 1500 is considered the "safe" zone, 500 is a minimum. Hopefully you are consuming iodine rich foods or taking a multivitamin with iodine. That is one of the downfalls of our low sodium lifestyle. Since most food these days is lacking in natural iodine unless you eat fish regularly that could be lacking.…

Not less that 1200 is what belongs in the Net. So yes on non exercise days you eat at the 1200, on workout days you eat more.

Ok, I have no idea of the age of the OP but underarm skin can be tough to get rid of later in life. You can lose the fat and still have loose skin for quite a while and perhaps never get rid of it. If you are young then yes, you stand a good chance that as the fat receded your skin will tighten up with lots of toning and…

For those who are technologically comfortable then going ot your cell and looking up info is a piece of cake, but let me give you a good example of why public posting (yes I know an initial expense but it's for those with more than 20 locations) would help. My hubby would do the drive through since he is on the road a lot.…

I agree on a big breakfast, I generally have between 400-500 calories depending on whether I'm going to have super busy day or just an average day. Course mine is protein and veggies, being gluten and dairy free really changes up your breakfast choices, lol.

With the college food, if they don't post it in the eating halls then contact the vendor through their office on campus. The students at ours demanded nutrition info and got it. We have Aramark here, but Sodexho was pretty sympathetic too when they were here, wouldn't post it but would provide upon request.

It was pretty funny, my hubby and I were out at a local chain restaurant, pulled up their nutrition menu on my phone to help him figure out what he was going to have, he nearly fell out of the booth when I started reading the sodium and fat levels in most of his favorite choices, lol.

I too am an apple, but when I added strength training I finally started to see results, I still have some stubborn fat but I have lost 16 inches of my "donut"

Like has been said above, moderation, protein, whole grains. It will be hard retraining your carb cravings but it can be done. You don't say how old you are but if you want hard, try being obese for 40 years before making up your mind to change it! Do it while you're young for a long and happy life.

I am torn both ways on this, I don't really like cardio but my doctor prescribed it so I read while doing my treadmill time. However, for the strength training half of my workout I hate the folks who use the machines as a social media chair, the gym has chairs, move your *kitten* to a chair and stop camping the machines.

Green tea is the important part, is being studied for it's role in weight loss, sadly it takes 4 cups of green tea a day to come up with a statistically different result.

A carb is a carb, however, you want to look at what comes with the carb, a white carb often brings limited nutrients, vegetables are for the most part pretty nutrient loaded, so make smart choices and just moderate your carbs. Studies have shown that long term, moderation is most successful for long term balance.

I keep my before and current picture (one of those comparison ones) on my phone, people get pushy, I whip out my phone and show them why I don't overeat or overdrink (only if they don't know me well, my friends have been on this page since last Christmas). That tends to end the discussion with a smile and a congratulations.

I do the same sort of thing, put out enough containers to take all the chili, divvy it up amongst the containers till it's gone and I'm done, then I dump my fresh chili or soup into my dinner bowl and dig in, that way I know it's the same size serving as the rest. If I'm making a big batch my hubby bought me a lovely pan…

I really dislike this whole misconception stuff "low carb is the only way" yes americans need to cut back for the most part, but in a long term study (actually a few I've found) moderate (100-160g per day) was far more successful in the long run because it can be sustained as a lifestyle change. Both groups over a year…

I lost a bunch real fast and looked like a melting ice cream cone, lol. now 8 months later I can see a noticeable difference, however, after 40 years of being overweight and 4 kids I don't expect to ever get really tight skin but it's so much better, working out, patience and lots of good moisturizer as well as collagen…

As an american, I consider thanksgiving a day to celebrate all we have to be thankful for, I have never focused on the beginning since most of that is legend that has grown up around a simple event way back when. (I also have a lot of American indian in my background.) We should always take a pause to examine both our…

57 years old, starting weight 240, current weight 180 or so, (did a bit of a loss before starting here). I've been on MFP with a great team of friends for just over a year. I am fit, slimmer than I've been since 1973 and feeling great. However, I lost the first 20 awfully fast and I looked for awhile like a melting ice…

Eating everything in sight, lol. Portion control became my mantra and over the last year i have learned how to make a bag of chips last a week or a bag of dove squares last a couple of weeks, :drinker:

Trolls exist everywhere, for months I shied away from the forums, now I search out the ones where the trolls are having their hijinks, pm the person being picked on and clue them in that they are being attacked by trolls, usually gives them a giggle and helps them realize that some people are just mean for the fun of it…

I posted my first before and "during" pic recently, I really wrestled with the before but the reaction was very positive so no, except for some teasing I really liked the feedback.

You are an amazing young lady and you can definitely hold that over your dad's head for a longgg time, lol. Don't get discouraged, after a huge loss like that your body is likely regrouping, I've noticed that even though the scale stopped again for me a couple of months ago the clothes continue to get looser. So just keep…

Oh yeah, it's called being an apple, lol. I definitely suffered from that and even now down almost 60 pounds my waistline is still out of whack, it's way better, boobies stick out way farther than my stomach now but it's still making my clothes a bit whacky, sucks being a fourteen everywhere except my waist.

Some scientific reasons to avoid salt water flushes. Specific Salt Water Flush Dangers: altars critical pH and mineral levels in the body kills all beneficial intestinal bacteria can overwork the kidneys as they attempt to regulate the sodium level in the blood, which has just been dramatically thrown off balance. excess…

Mine works fine but I had to do some tweaking of the settings so they would work together. Most days they are fine. I did at the beginning have to unlink and relink a couple of times. Key is to only use fitbit for measuring steps and stairs, and sleep log if you are interested. Then log everything else on MFP. Now to…
