  • Well I just had a conversation with the doctor and the person who called with my lab results (the one who told me NOT to take supplemental iron) was incorrect. The doctor DOES want me to take iron, she said my hemoglobin was 13 (which falls in the normal range) but given the fact that my ferritin was 14 and I had already…
  • The doc ran a CBC and didn't say B12 levels were off.....and I'm definitely NOT celiac.
  • I've tried hormonal birth control which work very well to lessen the bleeding but wreak havoc with my life with so many side effects that I'm not willing to take them anymore. We are completely finished having children, our two are 10 and 8. My husband had a vasectomy about 7 years ago so no concerns about the ablation…
  • Hopefully I can discontinue supplementing after I get some issues resolved with my extremely heavy periods I've been having (sorry for any men here if that's TMI). The doctor is suggesting a uterine ablation.
  • I started feeling the extreme fatigue and having really crappy runs about a month ago. I couldn't get in to see the doctor until now (we were out of state on vacation last week) so I actually started taking an iron supplement almost 3 weeks ago. Not sure what my ferritin level was then but hopefully I've brought it up…
  • I also don't drink much on training runs (until it gets hot, anyway). Last time I raced a half I took no water at all except at one station I grabbed a cup and swished it around in my mouth and spit it out because my mouth was feeling dry. And FWIW there have been several times where I've gulped down more water than just a…
  • I was just going to say that exact thing.
  • I'll be in Chicago this year as well! It'll be my first time running Chicago but marathon #8 for me.....if I survive #7 first (Grandma's Marathon, Duluth MN in June).
  • I'm still doing a mix of treadmill and outdoor runs. Ready to tell the treadmill "goodbye" for good until next winter. C'mon spring, where are you?!?
  • Seriously? My 52lb 8-year-old son can polish off 500-600 (healthy!) calories for breakfast. I'm sure you could manage it. This morning he had a chocolate protein pancake (made with 1 mashed banana, 1 egg, oat flour, chocolate protein powder, unsweetened cocoa powder, chia seeds and ground flaxseed and cooked in coconut…
  • Just adding that your daughter's weight (before being sick) doesn't seem at all low to me. My son is 8 years old, 4'1" and only weighs 51lbs, my daughter is 10 years old, 4'9" and barely 60lbs. My kids both went through phases where they didn't want to eat whether it was because they were too busy or too distracted or just…
  • I'm doing 3x a week running and am in marathon training. I followed the same program last year and set a PR (took 14 minutes off my old marathon PR) so I'm back at it again this year. I usually lift weights 2x a week, do yoga 2x a week and do some sort of cardio cross-training that's pretty intense (like spin class) once a…
  • You look fantastic! I also hate the area above my knees. Probably not helped by the fact that my father-in-law once made fun of my knees. That was a few years and quite a lot of pounds ago. You have such a tiny waist and gorgeous abs!
  • I'll play along and post, too. I spent most of my life hating my thighs (I can remember sitting at my school desk in elementary school hating how they squished together) but the past couple years I've been working to change my attitude and I've got to say that my thighs and I are getting along nicely these days. I figure…
  • I like you! :) I'm 5'5", 35 years old, 130ish lbs (not weighing right now, gave up my scale for Lent) and I eat 2000+ a day. Or as much as I can get away with and not gain. Ha ha!
  • Ditto this. I set a PR for my half-marathon that I ran midway through my marathon training program last spring. I did run in 1:44. Just curious....you said your goal pace was 8:10ish per mile but you wanted to finish in 1:43/1:44......you know those paces don't work out for that time goal, right? 1:44 half is a 7:55 pace.…
  • Hmmm.....probably not. I'm running a full marathon the weekend before that so I think I'll be taking the next weekend off.
  • Just to clarify this is what has worked well for me. I think everyone has to find what works for them. I, personally, am not a runner who can go out 6-7 days a week and log 60-70 miles a week. I break down. Badly. My best marathon times have been running 4 or fewer days per week and I really enjoy this 3x a week plan I'm…
  • A while back (sometime in early January, I think) someone posted a topic asking about lifting weights while training for a marathon. This was my response: ********************* I've run 6 full marathons. The first 2 I didn't do any weight lifting/strength training during my marathon training. My times were 4:34 and 4:48.…
  • So I started round 2 today. FIrst go-round I did 15 reps for all exercises, all sets. This time I'm upping it to 20.....with the exception of push-ups, I just can't do 4 rounds of 20. I did 20 on the first set and then dropped back to 15 for the remaining 3 sets. 20 reps seems like a lot more than 15 when you're already…
  • Running, running and more running. Signed up for full marathons #7 & #8 in 2013 - running Grandma's (Duluth, MN) in June and Chicago in October!
  • 7.6 - done this morning! Can't believe I'm saying this but I'm totally in for round 2 of this stage. I'm dripping sweat in these workouts and that makes me strangely happy.
  • 7.4 done! This week is tons easier than last week. I'm using the same (or even slightly upping) my weights and not having the awful DOMS that I did after workouts 1 & 2. Thank goodness! And can I just say that I *dread* the step-ups in this stage? They go on & on & on & on.......
  • This race was the most expensive registration I've ever paid! Fortunately it was my birthday yesterday and between my grandparents, parents and in-laws I got enough birthday money to cover my entry fee. I'm running it with 2 (possibly 3, she didn't get in before they suspended registration) friends so we can split the cost…
  • I did 7.3 yesterday and finally had a day with (almost) no DOMS. Thank goodness! Last week was really rough.
  • I'm registered for it! I got through in about 30 minutes yesterday despite all the technical difficulties they were having.
  • I'm planning to do the full 12. If I live that long. LOL!
  • I'm similar. I had 2 c-sections. My lower tummy is always the last to slim down (well that and my thighs). I also give credit to heavy lifting, lots of time, eating cleanly at a small deficit and running to credit to my stomach progress. I have pictures on my profile of my tummy.
