I agree with everyone else, there's nothing wrong with one starburst. It's eating a whole packet of them every day that would be a problem. The only thought I did have though is that if you're having one before bed maybe make sure you eat it before you brush your teeth. I actually had a nutritionist tell me once that we…

Glad I'm not the only one! How awesome is that feeling!!?? Sorry op, my earlier post really wasn't helpful from an advice point of view. I really wish I could impart to you the knowledge that a calorie deficit will just work. Have faith in yourself and be brutally honest in your logging with MFP and I guarantee it will…

It's weird, but this time I just knew. I've been struggling with my weight for years but a few months ago I just knew that this time it would be easy. I've had a big lifestyle change that's played a huge part in it though, and my new doctor is freaking amazing. :) :)

My very favourite and the one that rammed home form me just how weight loss could be is: According to the law of physics e=mc2 it is physically impossible NOT to lose weight if you are consuming less than you are burning.

^^ This. Sorry to not be very supportive, but calorie deficit wins hands down every time. I guess if you want to fuss around with other things as well then go for it. I tend to believe that when we're truly ready to lose weight something will kinda snap and we'll be happy to focus on getting our cals down and upping our…

Go with the yoga. Stretching will really help with the ME and also help to warm your body up in the mornings so you'll suffer less pain during the day. There's a great series of yoga which was actually made for TV called Namaste Yoga by Kate Potter. They're 25 min sessions so not too demanding or time consuming. If you can…

That makes more sense. I couldn't work out if she meant 1/2 a pound or 5 pounds.
-
Just to be clear, you want to lose half a pound or five pounds? Someone above mentioned eating at maintenance and focusing on strength training instead, which I think is great advice. Body weight should be fine, and if your goal is a flat stomach maybe go for the crunches and suchlike that target that area (don't neglect…

Not unmanly at all, although I am having a mental image of the Simpsons congaing around their house singing "you don't win friends with salad'.

When eating things like chips or lollies, anything that can be eaten in individual bits, I always have to have even numbers of them, preferably in fours. It's the same with sipping liquids. If faced with a single large chip I will try to take four small bites out of it to even it up.

Welcome! I've sent you a friend request and am always up for sending some motivation, hopefully we can support each other through our weight loss journeys. :) :)

Absolutely depends on body type. I'm 5'6 and my goal weight is 156 (71 kilos). At that weight you can clearly see my hip bones and ribs. If I dropped much below that my doctor would be freaking out about upping my intake. As it is he's actually advised me that he thinks that's too low for me. I have very dense bones and…

Yep, still obese. Really loving the 'shrinking' feeling I've had with the loss so far, a bit conscious of the fact that some people become addicted to that feeling so really don't want to restrict my intake too much from here. But based on everyone's feedback I'm going to: Chill, and push my goal date out further. Stop…

True, I probably am freaking out a little more than is justified. I was loving the loss that I started out with though, it was really encouraging. To have it stall is pretty distressing. :( But thanks for your encouragement! :) :)

I'm planning on being really careful all holidays and I do tend to reach for the fresher types of foods rather than the overly processed ones. Is it normal under the circumstances to have seen such a drastic drop in loss? It was really steady for the first 10 kilos and then just petered out. :(
-
I do actually measure my foods. When I started feeling stalled I made a point of getting really fussy about it. Apart from this my diet hasn't really changed a great deal.
-
Decreasing my intake was my first response, but I'm a bit leery of dropping below 1200 calories a day. Could this not be more detrimental in the long run?
-
My Doctor has cautioned me to slow down a bit towards the end. I'm losing about a kilo (2.2 pounds) a week at the moment, but he thinks that half that might even be a bit too fast. He's worried about me losing muscle mass. Probably good advice, for me anyway. :)

Wow, that's a great article. I read a study recently that said that they've isolated a chemical in the brain that has an influence on our ability to delay immediate gratification in favour of a better outcome later. The study was talking primarily about alcohol and other addictions but it's applicable here. People with…

I've done those diets where you can only eat certain things and ended up making myself pretty sick. There was one that involved mostly lentils and I stopped eating for a while and it was really bad. I think the best thing to do is to be aware of what you are eating and just try to eat less of it in general. If you're doing…

I think this is a great idea. Who says you have to do it all at once? I do yoga in the mornings now, but only because I have the time. I used to have to travel a long way to get to work so scheduling exercise was a pain. Now I live within walking distance, so walk 30 mins each way and have the time for yoga without having…

Lol, I joined MFP a couple of years ago, but wasn't ready to make it work for me. I've actually lost 10 kilos in the last 12 weeks, so yeah, it's working VERY well. :) Shame MFP doesn't reflect that. :(

Usually I'm pretty anti-speedos, but swimming laps is an exception. It's a functionality thing, you need to go for the hydrodynamic option. Just keep a towel on hand and cover up asap when you get out - don't go walking around the gym in those things!
-
I'd be happy to, but I think we might be in different time zones. Feel free to add me and I'll step in and keep gentle tabs on you. :)
-
Also, I was cooking something the other day (a roast beef or something) and said to my husband "it's shrunk a bit" and he said "just like you". :)

The receptionist at the building where I work called out "here comes skinny minnie" when I walked in the other morning. Apparently I've also inspired her to get more exercise, which is a better compliment in itself than the comment. :) I also love the unspoken compliment my clothes are giving me. I'm going to have to start…

Hi! I'm also Aussie, although I don't live in a remote area. You can add me if you'd like. :)

Sound awesome! Will definitely give them a try! Thanks for posting!

Agreed. You have to take into account the food you are eating. You could consume all 1200 calories in a big mac, fries and thickshake (actually, I'm pretty sure that's more than 1200 calories) every day and be seriously malnourished. If you eat well every day and 1200 is appropriate for you there shouldn't be a problem.…

I'm 5'7" (175 cm) and have a large frame. I'm finding that I net somewhere between 1400 - 1600 calories a day. MFP is set to 1200 for me, but that's because I told it I'm sedentary. I don't do any strength training but do an hour and a half of light exercise (yoga and walking) at least 5 days a week and usually eat most of…
