  • I also drink lots of diet soda. Recently I've been able to cut back a bit, because I stopped emotional eating and somehow realized that I was also drinking diet soda for emotional reasons rather than as a beverage. There are studies that prove that diet soda does all sorts of evil things to one's body, but there are…
  • I love that you have stepped up and brought the dog inside! I hate the idea of outdoor dogs. I was also raised with dogs being treated as family, and that is how mine are. I have two senior chihuahuas, and I sometimes wish that my live-in boyfriend would step up more and act like they are also his (he's taken the position…
  • I feel and look my best about 10 pounds overweight by BMI standards. So my goal is not based on BMI. Without reading any of the other responses, I already know that there will be many people on both sides of this debate because every BODY is different, and that's okay. :flowerforyou: If you feel that you are healthier at…
  • I love all of these "toss the scale" progress pictures! Great job focusing on what really matters: health. Also, it's a nice side effect of healthy habits when your body fat decreases and muscles get bigger! Well done, you.
  • March 5 to April 3 I don't know what the weight difference is, because I'm not weighing in regularly right now. But this is from tracking on MFP (I have my diary set to maintain, and just try to stay under that, usually net anywhere between 1400 and 2000) and sticking to a good gym routine (only cardio for now, mostly…
  • Who could hate Brett? He's one of my favorites. :flowerforyou:
  • My first half is in October.... *listening in*
  • My ticker says goal weight of 165 but I'm really going for a goal pants size. I want to fit into the biggest size in a tiny person store. So a "Forever 21" / "Gap" / "Ann Taylor" size 14.
  • Found this thread by searching for "grief" just to see if anything came up... I'm so sorry for all of your losses. Like one poster said, it is hard to truly understand unless one has been there. My mom died suddenly last June and I dealt with the grief weight in the amount of about 50 pounds (40 of them in abotu 2 months,…
  • Spirit/Science combo. Some days I pray to the Goddess, other days I doubt that there is anything besides what science can prove. But most of the time I believe that there are spirits among us, because I can feel my mother around me all the time. Which means that there is an afterlife of some sort. I usually tell folks that…
  • Thanks for sharing! It's wonderful to see a fellow 16/18 looking trim and healthy. You seriously look so tiny! Great job.
  • I used canned beans of all sorts in my cooking whenever I don't feel like making my beans from dried, which is pretty much always... Anyway, I add them to brown rice or pasta with lots of chopped up cooked veggies (bake squash, peppers, onion, and asparagus in casserole dish tossed with some EVOO, lime juice and red wine…
  • So are those of you who are saying that binge eating is worse than smoking... I have to say that I 100% disagree. My mom, who was my best friend and only true girl friend, died unexpectedly last June, and it was TERRIBLE. Still is, in fact. I was so F'd up at first that there was no reasoning with me. I thought about going…
  • The real challenge is to learn to deal with your emotions without turning to either food OR cigarettes. I'm sure that you will get there soon! Best of luck to you.
  • For me, smoking was worse. I quit smoking more than three years ago and haven't looked back. Binge eating has taken me a lot longer to quit, and I'm grateful to be done with both now, but I'm glad that I never went back to cigarettes. I would rather go back to binge eating than back to smoking.
  • Planning to get caught up on my running plan! I had a big plan to get me ready for a half marathon in October this year, and had to take a couple of weeks off to deal with a head cold. Now I'm behind. My original plan had me running 4.25 miles (no walking breaks) by the end of April, so that is my goal.
  • Yep, works for me. I have mine set to maintain just because I hate seeing the negative numbers when I go over. Some days I'm right at maintaining calories or even over it (for me that's netting just over 2000), some days I'm way under (netting less than 1200) but most days I'm right around 1600 net. It all evens out in the…
  • It's considered Sci-Fi, so i guess so. Also I'm a nerd because I was raised by Trekkies and met several Star Trek actors at sci-fi conventions growing up.
  • I'm a runner! Currently training for a half marathon in October. At the moment though I'm still pretty new (started in January) and am running 2.25 miles at a time. Working my way up! I think that running is out of style on MFP. It seems like heavy lifting is the new running. Oh well! I say that it's great to do whatever…
  • I think that my name and profile pic speak for themselves...
  • Ick this article is sad. I had to copy and paste the lines that spoke to me most: "'I want to change who I am entirely,' he said." - How sad that he believes that he need to change who is is because he is overweight. "How has someone who exists on not much more than organic seaweed and lentils ended up with a child with a…
  • I don't have an answer for you, but WOW you started at 3 miles???? I'm impressed. I started running in January and I'm still not to 3 miles straight... Maybe you did too much too soon?
  • You've lost 86 pounds. I think that gives you every right to be proud, and to "gloat" a bit. :flowerforyou: (no answer to original question because I've never shopped there)
  • There is a song that goes "I will be your father figure" and I still always hear "I will be your bottom feeder".
  • Society tells us to be on a diet. Many of us were raised by dieting mothers. There is an unrealistic body type presented by the media for all of us to strive for. It has become a social thing to constantly complain about our bodies and to "talk diet" with our fellow women, to the point where if you love your body and…
  • :flowerforyou: I don't normally do this, but since I am a woman thinking of strength training and don't want to read this now.... BUMP
  • The only thing that I can think of based on what you've said is that perhaps you need to enjoy what you eat WHILE you are losing weight. Maybe "the occasional treat" needs to happen more often. Forcing yourself to eat foods that are "good" that you don't enjoy and forcing yourself to stay away from foods that are "bad"…
  • Great idea! Right now I'm training for a half marathon, still working towards a 5K really... But once I get to the end of my training, I will have to give the audiobook idea a try.
  • You sound so much like me!!! I have wanted for years to be an intuitive eater. And I've realized that unfortunately I still LOVE junk food too much to do that 100% of the time, because with junk food, I tend to not EVER feel that satisfied feeling. So until I no longer want to eat junk food regularly (and I do eat it most…
