Here's an interesting article I found on Facebook. It might help shed some light, or at least give you a glimmer of hope. http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/health-science/can-what-you-eat-affect-your-mental-health-new-research-links-diet-and-the-mind/2014/03/24/c6b40876-abc0-11e3-af5f-4c56b834c4bf_story.html My own…

Maybe I missed it, but I don't recall Mark ever saying white potatoes were bad, just saying to eat them sparingly (like rice) to prevent possible significant insulin responses and increased sugar cravings as a result. And he's also said legumes are ok, sprouted and fermented. Same with soy - fermented and wheat free. It's…

New to PHD, but not Paleo or MFP. Looks like it's kind of dead in here... I hope it doesn't stay that way. Starting at somewhere below 188 (I hope anyway lol). I started whole30 on 5 March so I haven't weighed since then. I'm in training (taper) for a marathon and chose Whole30 as my nutrition plan b/c it's the only thing…

This. This is priceless!

Since you asked... www.whole30.com Don't have to buy a THING (except groceries). I always find great success with it and use it as my "go to" nutrition plan when I'm training for a race - keeps all the aches and pains at bay and I recover incredibly fast.

I think the workout programs are probably amazing - if you do them. That's my problem - I buy things and then never use it, so I have stopped using it. In regard to the shakes - I don't think they're at ALL necessary.

Point blank: no. Running has improved my cardiovascular fitness and my mental resiliency. My resting heart rate is 49. My blood pressure is below average (110/67 when last checked). My respers are so shallow, the machines at the hospital think I have quit breathing (per the nurse when the machine kept going off after my…

I would also argue that there is nothing wrong with your pace. As your body adjusts and your muscles strengthen and become more efficient, your speed will improve - or it may not. I started out running an 11:30 mile doing 5ks at 220 lbs and thought that was slow. Then I trained for a half marathon and my pace dropped to…

Funny... considering you forgot the apostrophy in who's...

Slow marathoner, although I think I prefer the half marathon distance - it's long, but not all day long. However, there's also something refreshing about a quick 4 mile run too. So, I'm all over the map - just depends on the day, but I tend to lean toward the lazy short run (3-8 miles).

THIS!!! I make everything from scratch and have all my homemade meals entered into the recipe builder. Easy peasy!

Why does weight loss have to cost money? Just buy real food, eat less, move more, use this site to track the calories and put your $50 back in your pocket (or into a gym membership). You're willing to pay someone to give you info you can draw from countless free sites on the interwebz? You don't have to buy ANYTHING to…

Eat back 1/2 of your exercise calories.

There are so many foods my parents didn't serve b/c they didn't like them. The list is long. But the ones I have fallen in love with are brussels sprouts (tossed with sauteed bacon and onion, then roasted in the oven), sweet potatoes (baked, then mashed with coconut oil and cinnamon, or chopped and sauteed in coconut oil),…

Fitbit Force is on a nationwide recall for rashes and chemical burns. If you decide to go with Fitbit, I'd recommend avoiding that one until they get the rash issues resolved. I had a Flex. I started using it Jan 22 and sold it March 10. I agonized over the decision of which band to get. I had a BodyMedia armband that was…

What he said... Focus on reducing LDL and triglycerides and increasing HDL. Don't worry about the total cholesterol number. Avoid trans fats. Eat high quality saturated fats, monunsaturated fats and medium chain triglycerides (coconut oil). Reducing refined carb consumption will help reduce blood triglyceride numbers.

I did not weigh this morning, but will make it a point to weigh tomorrow. I will take my measurements in a little bit. Thanks for the reminder! I forgot to do it before my last whole30 and wish I had. I fully intend to put the scale away for the whole of my whole30. This one is about removing allergens so my nerves are…

Fendi - the shocking dizziness, which I call Brain Zaps, were the worst part. I experienced them for an entire year after I took the last pill.

I wear Dr. Scholl's Fast Flats at work - they're so minimal that it's like being in socks all day long. I love it.

Paleo is primarily an anti-allergen diet. No gluten, no soy, no dairy, no legumes, no grains, etc. Vegetable oils are high in omega-6 fatty acids which (when consumed in excess) can cause inflammation, and quite often are already rancid by the time they reach the table (free radicals and such). Some can still do dairy and…

I think chocolate is a nightshade, isn't it? I thought it was in the same family somehow. Dairy for me causes all the minor respiratory issues: congestion, sneezing, coughing, chronic throat clearing, blah blah blah, plus itchy scalp, eczema and acne. I know I need to give it up for good. It's just so danged hard to keep…

it's almost like they expect us to do it at driving paces or something - like a marathon should only take us 26 minutes or something. Clearly (most) non-runners don't understand pacing and that our legs don't work as fast as a car... or bike or other mode of transportation.
-
Along the same lines "Lookin' good" when clearly I'm barely hanging on is so annoying... No I'm not. I look like **** b/c I'm dragging *kitten* here! Say something like "keep pushing" or "way to push on" instead of "looking good".
-
This one drives me so nuts... or they say I deserve it after running that far... No. No I don't.
