51. I’m 20 pounds heavier than I was when I turned 40 but can swim and run circles around my younger self. Looking for some friends too. Please add.

Similar story to you. I’ve been on MyFitnessPal for five or six years. I successfully lost around that time. Since then have tried and failed repeatedly. Determined this time! Friend me and let’s try to keep each other motivated.

Hi. Feel free to add me. I’m aiming for 20 pounds. I’m not doing a specific diet, just tracking and watching calories.

Hi All. Back on MFP. I initially lost about 10 pounds tracking back about 6 years ago. I haven't been as diligent the last 3 or 4 years and now I need to lose about 20. Looking for some friends along the journey because I'm a lot better about looking at my feed and going on the boards. I'm 51, live in Denver, have two…

Hi Ryenday - I'm also a swimmer.... or I was until Labor Day. I quit my gym in the spring, swam outdoors all summer but now I need to rejoin a gym because I've gained 8 pounds since Labor Day. Trying to get motivated. Add me as a friend and maybe we can help motivate each other. BTW, I've tried the 5/2. I can do it for a…

I love my VivoFit HR. I didn't get the GPS because I'm not sure I want Garmin to know where I am every second of the day. Ha. I'm a swimmer so I want something that's waterproof. Garmin is, Fitbit is not. I don't care about sleep and usually take it off but the few times I've worn the VivoFit, it seems to be pretty…

Be careful with the Flash - I killed two of them. Both after the third swim. I'm using Garmin Vivofit now. It's waterproof, has a clock and it's pretty comfortable.

1km is 1000 meters. That's a pretty good swim distance. I swim 1250-1800 meters 3 or 4 times a week. Swimming is great for toning, cardiovascular health, and it's something you can do 20 years from now, when you're 83. There's just two problems I have with swimming - one, hunger. Two, I don't lose weight either. Still, if…

Hi Pradeep, Without converting km to miles, I think I had the same problem. Walking at a moderate speed, if I count to 300, my Vivofit is 99% accurate. When I walk at a fast pace, it loses up to 25% of my steps. I didn't mess with stride length; I just changed my height. I added one inch. That's kept the accuracy at slow…

I have the moov now and love it for swimming laps. The 7 minute app is really good but I've found just as good ones on iTunes and google play. I like the brisk walking app. MoovNow doesn't track steps so it's pretty useless as an activity tracker. I have Garmin Vivofit, which does a good job with steps and it's waterproof.…

I would love to get a Fitbit but it's not waterproof. I hear mixed things about the FitBit Flex. Some people have used it in a pool but FitBit's website says it's just water-resistant. Anyone have any comments on swimming use?
-
Yes, most definitely find my appetite's increased by swimming. So I try to mix it up - a few days a week, I run a couple of miles and then swim.
-
Interesting article, Cortelli. "Those who swam tended to pack on pounds. " Great!

Yogicarl- it was fat weight. I didn't wasn't logging or paying attention to food... and no amount of swimming can make up for poor eating habits.

Sorry to say - I think it's common when you're really close to your goal weight. I started with about 13 pounds to lose. The first two came off in the first two weeks. Since then, I lose about a pound in one week and stay the same for the next 3-4 weeks. Then lose 1 pound and follow the same cycle. It's a little…

I've bought several in the past. I don't often use them because I bought a treadmill a couple years ago and mainly use that. I think the less you have to use and/or if you're already very fit, they aren't effective. If you have a lot to lose and/or are not very active, they are great. They're fun and you will sweat. Also,…

Can't explain it either - except the theory of little to lose. I'm in the same place - I gained about 13 pounds over the last year and a half. I lost the first 4 really fast - and now I'm in a lose 2/ gain 2 scenario. For almost 2 months. So really, I haven't lost anything in the last two months. I am running 5 days a week…

Right there with you! I'm also not "heavy" - I'm in the middle of BMI and I just want to lose @5-7 pounds to get back to where I was about 1 1/2 year ago. My clothes don't fit right and I'm short enough (5'3") that a few pounds makes a big difference. I run 4 days a week, run/walk 1 day a week, and walk with a high incline…

I'm 5'3" and about 130 right now. I've lost @6 pounds since the beginning of January. I feel most comfortable (and my clothes fit best) in the low-mid 120s. So I realize that I've got a lot of things against me - short, not "overweight", little to lose, and in my mid-40s but I run about 4 miles a day, rarely eat more than…

I think both numbers might be off - 270 seems way too low for 50 minutes but elliptical machines do tend to overinflate. I checked sparkpeople and self magazine calculators. Self magazine…
