  • The recipe called for sweetened condensed milk - yikes - that little can has over 1300 calories.... I use this: 1 cup unsweetened almond milk - 35 calories 1/4 cup half and half - stevia - real vanilla extract - I use it in hot coffee, cold lattes, etc. I works out to less than 20 calories per tablespoon and I use about a…
  • I have been gluten-free for over 5 years now. I feel so much better, I do not have any desire to eat the foods that once made me sick. I have a simple rule: If it comes off a farm, I will probably eat it. The exception being wheat, barley, rye, malt.... If it comes out of a food processing plant and has ingredients with…

  • I was in the same place. Look at what you are eating, not just the calories. Fiber, fiber, fiber.... vegetables, beans, nuts lean protein calcium some healthy fats - avocadoes, olive oil, grapeseed oil - in moderation I adjusted my diet to make sure most of my calories were from the above. The pounds started coming off.

  • I am in. Feel free to help motivate me to exercise more. I could use a good "kick" in that direction. Thanks,
  • I am in if you are forming a support group. One thing that I have found which has helped me: 1-2 tablespoons of pistachios just before settling down for the night. The boost of protein seems to keep me from waking up hungry and even seems to help me sleep through the night without waking up. I think I saw that trick on one…
  • Chia seeds provide fiber and omega-3's. That is why I use them. I abhor them in smoothies, although most people use them that way. I blend them into chicken salad, green salad, salad dressings, etc. Basically, I use them the way I would use poppyseeds. They blend into any baked good. Those allergic to eggs use them mixed…

  • Food manufacturers now hide M.S.G. (monosodium glutamate) under about 200 or more different names in foods. Since I have a very severe reaction to this chemical, I gave up processed foods gradually as manufacturers starting putting more and more in their foods and hiding it better. They now pump it in some solutions added…
  • Do not think of it as starting a "diet". Think of it as a learning process of eating healthier. If you must eat late at night, eat an apple, popcorn, sliced carrots, etc. My daughter eats no carbs after 3:00 p.m. I have not mastered that, but I try to limit late night snacking to something healthy and less than 100…
  • Sometimes, I buy yogurt, but most of the time I make my own. It takes minutes of my time and I can make a half gallon while I am sleeping or at work. The longer it sits, the thicker and more potent that taste you were referring to is. If you make it yourself, you can control some of the "tartness" you were referring to.…
  • Since you should not live on ibuprofen in large amounts forever, I looked for solutions other than anti-inflammation drugs. I added fresh ginger, powdered ginger and black cherries to my diet. Supposedly, as little as a 1/4 teaspoon of ginger a day is supposed to help. I did not believe it would, but since I like ginger…
  • Out of eggs or allergic to eggs - When mixed with water, chia seeds, are high in soluble fiber and form a thick gel. Place 1 tablespoon of chia seeds in a cup and add 3 tablespoons of water. Allow the mixture to sit for about 15 minutes. 1/4 cup of hydrated chia seeds equals approximately 1 egg. I add chia seeds and flax…
