  • Well, I found if I get up and do my workout before school (I'm a teacher) I have more energy for the day and I'm sure I got it done. It's the only way I've been able to successfully keep to a routine. I've found that when I have those little increases, I typically have a good drop at my next weigh in so I'm not too…
  • Ok, being the analytical person that I am...I looked at all my weigh-ins and I typically lose more on Friday weigh in than I do on Tuesday weigh in. My average weight loss has been 2.15 lbs per week so that's pretty darn good. I'll still weigh both times because I don't want to weigh every day and need to know mid-way how…
  • I typically weigh in on Tuesdays and Fridays...hmm, I should go back and look and see which day I usually get a bigger drop. I chose Tuesdays because I watch The Biggest Loser so I weigh in on the same day as they do...and I weigh in on Fridays because I don't want to go a whole week (wondering) so that spaced it out a…
  • Hi Amber...I've actually only been off of it for about a week. I haven't noticed a difference so far except I'm more tired for my 4 am workout haha. My weight actually went up this morning but I think that's because I had high sodium last night. We'll see over the next week if my metabolism slows etc. I'll keep you updated.
  • Hi Amber...I've posted about this a couple of times and keep getting bashed. My doctor put me on the phentermine because I have RA and wanted to see if I could reduce my medications by losing a bit of weight. I've lost 17 of the 20 pounds I want to lose. I didn't approach this as a short cut, I am truly making lifestyle…
  • Hi, I'm Stephanie. I was diagnosed with RA about 18 months ago and diagnosed with hypothyroid about 5 years ago. I actually figured out it was RA by watching House...I'm such a nerd. I had so many crazy illnesses leading up to the diagnosis that I knew it had to be autoimmune and lupus and RA are in my family. I was sick…
  • I have noticed this as well. Made a comment about how the doctor put me on phentermine to spike my metabolism because I actually DO have a bad thyroid and the extra 20 pounds on my joints is affecting me because of rheumatoid arthritis and people jumped all over me for "cheating" and never a reason to use medication etc.…
  • We had a decent snow 2 years ago and got 3 feet but that's WAY unusual. I'm a teacher so I actually look forward to snow. I'm in Gainesville and we go to Arlington occasionally for dinner. Have you been to Rock Bottom Brewery (yes, there is a theme and it's Dan's fault)? I think there's another Capitol City Brewing near…
  • Hi, I'm not actually in DC...in Northern VA...but I can use as many friends as I can get if you want to add. I don't know a lot of DC restaurants but I have been to Capital City Brewing right by the Capitol. They have a hummus appetizer that's fantastic. I wonder if you could get it with veggies instead of pita...but man,…
  • This always seems to be such a passionate topic. I definitely see both sides and I can only comment on my own experience. I've never been considered fat and most people would be happy at my starting weight. I was at my doctor appointment and for the first time, my weight went into the overweight category. Quick medical…
  • Hi Danielle, I'm in NoVA :) I'd be happy to be your friend if you want to add me. Steph
  • Hi Shell, You can add me if you'd like. I'm in Virginia, 42, and I've been at this for a while. We all need friends and no one likes exercise in the beginning. Everyone can walk...start with something and then add to it. :) Good luck! Steph
  • You would be surprised at how different almost 8 lbs looks. I'm sure you look great and will look different. Most important, get yourself well so that you look rested. ;) Any quick weight-drop you do in one week will come back...keep with the slow and steady, that's what stays off.
  • Hi Jodi, I'm not in Florida...but I'm 42 also! If you need online friends, I'd be happy to be friends. I lived in the Tampa area when I was about 10. :) Should be a good place to do some walking. Steph
  • I was vegetarian for about 3 years and my daughter is still vegetarian. I was having serious problems controlling my weight when I was vegetarian because many of the foods are higher in carbs. Do you eat eggs and drink milk? These are good sources of protein without a lot of calories. The Quorn products are good as…
  • I've lost almost 16 lbs in 2 months. I actually had someone at work approach me out of concern because they thought I was sick because I was dropping weight "so fast." I've had students tell me that I look a lot younger too.
  • FYI...it's been working for me, but when she put my husband on a loser dosage..he was very angry and took himself off of them. They are definitely not ok for everyone.
  • Because I'm hypothyroid, have rheumatoid arthritis and vitamin D deficiency, my doctor wanted to see how my different levels would change if I lost the extra weight I've been carrying. She put me on phenterimine (not sure how to spell it) for 8 weeks and I've lost about 16 lbs. This was supposed to kick-start my…
  • My doctor actually told me to increase my calories because I'd reached a plateau, sort of. So I've increased my calories and am making sure I'm on that treadmill every day. We'll see what happens. Maybe, you increased your calories over the holiday and that kicked your metabolism up?
  • I get up at 4 am to walk on my treadmill before teaching high school during the day and a college class on monday and wednesday nights. It's the only time I know I can get my workout in.
  • Mmmmm....love hummus. Great as a dip for carrots or celery. Has protein, low in calories...great snack. I've also had it on a sandwich with cucumbers, peppers, onions. It's great stuff! made from chickpeas and there are a ton of flavors. Enjoy!
  • Hi Ben, Congratulations on getting started. You are very similar in size to my husband. He's starting tomorrow. He's about 185 lb and 5' 8" tall. I giggled over the "stone" measurement because my daughter and I started watching this tv show "Supersize vs. Superskinny" and they kept talking about losing a stone etc. I had…
