It's not TMI as it's a common enough problem and I think we've all been there! I had to complete a 10km run recently where there were NO porta potties along the way and 2km in I reeeeaally needed to go. Very uncomfortable. I agree with having a cuppa coffee, maybe half a banana before you go out. I find coffee can get…

Well if your BMR is around the 1400 mark then the theory is that you should eat at _least_ that much because that's the nutrition your body needs to function at all (without any extra activity incorporated). Then if you're active, it adds more calories to your daily calorie needs (so that you aren't undereating as working…

Your BMR is1858? I thought that you had to eat at _least_ your BMR? But according to your calculation you're eating less? I used Scoobys Calorie Calculator (http://scoobysworkshop.com/accurate-calorie-calculator/) and got 1489 as my BMR and 2303 as my TDEE. And then my Daily calories work out as 1846 (for 20% reduction).…

Yes I've done it and completed it and I would reccommend it to any beginners for sure. I found it so hard starting to run, couldn't get my breathing right and felt I was getting nowhere sometimes but I stuck it out and I'm glad I did! I'm not exactly a runner - more a fast jogger but that's just the pace I like to go. I…

Just pointing out we actually say "whinging" in Ireland too :) I hardly ever hear "whine" nowadays, it's always "whinge" which is pronounced win-ge. This week I got my 4 mile jog time down to 36mins from 40mins. Onwards and downwards!

Aaaah ok. We call it cotton candy or candly floss here in Ireland. Fairy floss lol...

Welcome! Your title made me laugh  I'm also 5ft 6 and a gamer nerd!! I started at 198lbs and I've gotten down to 149.5lbs so far - it's taken me ages though. Slowly and surely. I'm not a lover of exercise either - cringe at the thought BUT since getting rid of most of the weight, I started jogging and progressed…

4 mile run yesterday and a long 10 miler at the weekend brings me up to 19.5 miles so far this month :)

I'm a newbie to this but I'll aim for running 70miles this month. Already did 5.5 yesterday :)

Your plan (although it looks complicated to some people) might just work for you so that's good. If you feel it's what you need then go for it... there's no harm in trying eh?! I completed C25K already so I'll not join in but good luck with it all the same :) Unfortunately, I can only give the same advice everyone else is…

I can do 10 minute miles on a shorter distance like 3 or 4 miles but if I up the distance I find I'm doing closer to 11 minute miles on average. BUT when I started, I was easily doing 12 or 13 minute miles. I can vouch that it takes a lot of time to get as much as 1 or 2 mins off your total time so don't panic about…

No I completely agree with you about the time thing!? That's why I mentioned couch to 5k... that was just a time thing for me at first e.g "jog for 10 mins, walk for 5 mins, jog for 10mins" and I remember being delighted at just being _able_ to jog for those lengths of time. It's just recently I focus on the distances (I…

I have to say I alternate between running for time and running for distance. Yesterday for instance, I ran for distance and did 8 miles (wasn't trying to do it fast, just wanted to DO the distance [it took 86mins]). I would also consdier myself a beginner as I only started running last Christmas, then took a month off it…

How long have you been trying to run? How often do you go out? I go jogging a few times a week and find I have to eat more so that my body isn't wrecked - are you eating back exercise cals or rigidly sticking to around 1400?

Just wanted to reply to tell you I used to be like this too. Couldn't walk a couple of miles without feeling sick and I had the swelling of the fingers you have too (that sometimes still happens if I do too much). Now I'm flying along and it's no bother to walk 4 or 5 miles. I also started jogging in January (slooooowly…
