  • Disney has both, but my goal is the full. Go big or go home, right? LOL! They also have categories like the Goofy Challenge, which is running BOTH the half and full and the Dopey Challenge, which is (I believe), running the 5K, 10K, half, and full in the same weekend. What's crazy is those challenges sell out within…
  • My gym has an OTF-type program that I've been doing for a couple of years. . . actual OTF studios have just made their way into my region. But, I love it! I do a session at least 3 days a week. When I first started, getting into/staying in orange was very easy and I'd easily burn 500+ calories a session. Now, I have to…
  • This is me, too. But, I, too, agree with sticking with what you like/know is comfortable. Knowing that the Launch 3 just came out and Brooks has a tendency to jack up "upgrades," I purchased 3 pairs of the 2 for cheap money knowing I go through them in 6-7 months. So, I won't have to worry about re-evaluating until next…
  • Time is definitely a challenge . . . I have 2 school-aged children and work a full-time out of the home job. My plus is that my work schedule includes weekdays off, so I use the time that my kids are in school for my long runs (I'm ready to go when they are, so as soon as the bus pulls away, I'm off). Summers get a little…
  • I use white vinegar in place of fabric softener and wash on a normal cold water cycle. They end up smelling like the detergent I use (Tide Pods with Febreeze). Actually, I use white vinegar as fabric softener on all my laundry. It's fantastic on towels . . . they get SO fluffy :)
  • This sounds so delicious and FUN! I don't really track for Christmas gatherings...I just do my best to practice moderation. Sure, I'd love that treat, maybe even 2, but I don't need 6 :) I tend to skip things we have regularly (i.e. potatoes) in favor of those special holiday foods.
  • That pace is amazing!! I'm significantly slower, so I'm always in awe of people who run under 9 min/mile consistently. Wishing you continued success! I'm also in between halfs . . . ran one in October and my next is in May. I've got a few races, varying from 3-miles to 10K over the next few months (I don't train, per se,…
  • I never took gymnastics as a kid, though I always wanted to. My backhandspring was self taught and very poorly executed - LOL! But, I did take an adult class a couple years ago and it was SO much fun! It really was a great workout for conditioning and core strength. I stopped going for scheduling reasons, but I did enjoy…
  • I used a HRM,but depending on what kind of exercises you do (strength/balance vs. HIIT), it may or may not be accurate. I generally found a 45-minute TRX workout to burn about half the calories of a 45-minute elliptical session (again, based on the HRM). For my stats, my burns are about 25% less than the defaults in the…

  • This! I've had great luck with fit and wear of the bras and pants, especially. I also love Title Nine, but I wouldn't describe them as cheap.
  • I prefer early mornings...on my days off, I'm at the gym for 5am. I work early mornings (start at 4am), so my work days have to have evening workouts, but that's much harder for me, physically and mentally. If I worked normal business hours, I'd work out early every day!
  • Congratulations! I don't care what one's body make up is . . . to run any distance at that pace and live to tell about it is amazing! I'm chasing the sub-30 minute 5K. I'm getting there. My 1st ever 5K was 36.35 (in Sep 2014)...this past Sep, I ran that same race at 32.28 . . . I ran a 5K this past weekend at 31.12. My…
  • I make pitchers of fruit infused water. For me, I get sick of plain water, but artificial sweeteners, even as little as a 12oz. drink, do a number on my tummy :( So, this adds just enough flavor. The amount of calories/sugars infused from the fruits is negligible. I also use veggies and/or fresh herbs (cucumber/mint is a…
  • Make sure your shoes fit properly for your gait. I found calf compression sleeves/socks to help, as well as good ankle stretching before/after a run.
  • I think this might be the first thread that I've ever read the entire way through - LOL! Everyone's experiences and stories are so interesting to read. Thank you to everyone for sharing! I'm on my 3rd Mirena . . . had 1 after my daughter was born, removed to TTC, then a 2nd inserted after my son was born, and had that one…
  • Happy Polar H7 user here :)
  • I take 2 rest days. I still get some activity in on those days (talking a walk, playing basketball with my kids, etc...), but not a dedicated exercise session.
  • Thank you for the feedback! My half was 6 weeks ago. I was up to 18 miles/week just prior to that. I worked through a slight hip injury and decided to take time off after the race . . . I took a full 2 weeks off (of running, still did spin and lifting) and have been doing less than 10 miles/week since. But, I'm healed and…
  • Way to go! You should be very proud of yourself :) After a lifetime of being someone who would run only if being chased by a bear, I ran my 1st 5k last September. I was aiming for under 45 minutes and to run the whole thing...it was so hot/humid, I ended up walking a bit of mile 2, but I finished in 36:12. Just enough to…
  • I'm also 5'2" and have much bigger numbers than y'all :) SW: 223lbs CW: 174lbs GW: 150lbs I wear size 12 jeans, M or L tops, 36DDD bra. My lowest adult weight was 135lbs and it was very difficult for me to maintain. Interestingly enough, I wore the same size clothes then as I do now (although my bra was smaller...I hadn't…
  • This is hysterical - LOL! We should be friends :)
  • This is me, too - LOL! I'm adding a half mile to my long run each week, loosely following Hal Higdon's plan. I'm training on a dreadmill for now (the cold isn't a problem, but I'm not confident in the road conditions) and hope to get outside for at least my long runs by mid-February. I'd love some new running friends :)
  • As much as I hate the increased crowd, I'm silently fist-bumping them all! Because that was me last January. I just wish so may wouldn't give up *shrug*
  • I was a self-taught "gymnast" as a kid...I could hold a handstand for days and could do basic tumbling. My daughter is a competitive gymnast and her gym offers an adult class. A couple years ago, I tried it on a lark and discovered that not only could I not do anything anymore, I was afraid to even try. This year, having…
  • Alone, with music. I use the music to set my pace. And I have my playlist timed such that "Everything is Awesome" is playing when I finish a 5K - LOL!
  • I have about 15, none of which are great on their own, so I double up. I have a list of recommendations for good bras that I'm going to try to see if I can pare my supply down.
  • My license says 5'2", so I go with it ;) I'm going to be adding a bunch of you :) I've been on MFP religiously this year (though off/on prior) and never really got into forums/friends. I could use people in similar spots as I am to chat with and get and give support! My diary has been closed, but I'll open it. I closed it…
  • Thanks for all the recs! I'll look into some of these. I've been doing the 2 bra thing for a while and it's just not working for me . . . it's uncomfortable and the laundry is out of control - LOL!
  • Likes: -1.5 miles from my house (when the weather is good, I often walk/run to/from) -Some great trainers/staff -Plenty of new/well maintained equipment -Synrgy 360 (group training, crossfit-type program) <-- I joined specifically for this and I LOVE IT!! -Awesome child care area (seriously, my kids BEG to stay the whole…
  • I lost nearly 40 lbs on WW over the course of 4 months . . . then, they switched to Points Plus and I spent the next 2 years losing and gaining the same 7 lbs. Frustrating is an understatement! I found the MFP app and started logging my food in both MFP and WW. I wanted to figure out exactly how much I was eating . . . I…
