  • Oh yes, THIS! Along with.."You'd be so pretty if you just lost some weight" which, having already done, is both annoying and discouraging.
  • Hunh, I thought it was March 14th (pi day) (http://www.piday.org/). Or maybe Cheese Weasel Day on April 3rd (http://cheeseweaselday.com/)! Then again, I love being a geek so the more times to celebrate, the better. Happy Geek Day, then!
  • Another cool way is to do yoga. The stretches keep things long and the use of your own body as a weight increases your strength. And a lot of the balance helps with core strength (which is what gives you the balance, a nice feedback loop).
  • I mostly have done the same thing. I am trying to reframe it in my world. I'm not dieting. In fact, I still eat amazingly bad food much of the time (I blame the office snack room). But I promised myself, I would write down EVERYTHING I ate. That is my only requirement. And when I do, I am aware that what I eat isn't what…
  • Altered to be gender neutral: Your significant other( someone who you have been dating exclusively for a year) ask you to attend a popular event In your area and they say to you " I really need you looking your best my ex always attends this event and I know they are going to be there and I know they will be dressed up"…
  • Live. Eat. Don't deprive yourself. Just everything in moderation.
  • I've found that making the water warm-to-hot helps me to drink it without noticing it.
  • What I've seen that works well is the emphasis on how cool the good food is, and really, pay no attention to the candy at all. Talk about the flavors that would go well with the cool food, what spices would enhance it? Encourage them to help come up with dinner ideas that include it. But when they like the cool food, talk…
  • Go you! Congratulations! Edit: Sigh...that was supposed to be in reply to JadeRabbit08.
  • Ok, when last we left our...well...me...I was just about to round the hedgerows south. I did another three and a half miles since then, and seven flights of stairs. How much do stairs count, I wonder? So! I think that leaves me...Entering Tookland! Who's with me there?
  • Ok, that's awesome.
  • Today, according to (http://home.insightbb.com/~eowynchallenge/Tools/Bag_end/bag_end.html) the map, I've almost gotten to the hedgerows. I'm going to do 7 flights of stairs later this evening (I work on the 7th floor so a co-worker and I walk down, grab a coffee at the local D&D, and walk back up) which I think will make…
  • Hi, I'm Jo. I saw this yesterday as well. I have a 1.5 mile loop I try and walk daily so it's gonna be a long slow walk, but...I'll get there. :)
  • I'm loving this. What a fantastic idea. I may join you on the walk back to the shire. Feels like I've been a drudge in Mordor for a long time and the shire sounds like an excellent destination.
  • So wait, you're eating more healthy, you're exercising better....and you think the most important part is to lose weight? What horrible thing would happen if you simply kept doing what you're doing?! I realize that being thin is all the rage but what happened to the idea of simply being healthier?
  • I"m betting what you really need is numbers. Here's something I found that might be helpful. The beverage and its calorie count: Beer -12oz Regular 149 Light 110 Distilled (80 proof) - 1oz Gin, rum, vodka, whisky, tequila 65 Brandy, cognac 65 Liqueurs - 1.5oz (Drambuie, Cointreau, Kahlua) 188 Wine - 4oz unless otherwise…
  • I vowed never to own a scale again and have succeeded in that. I weigh in when I go to the Chiropractor every two weeks or so. It's the same scale and it helps to keep me from obsessing. As for tape measure, I have that for making clothing and quilts so I do happen to have that one. Maybe 4 of them. I'd share one but it's…
  • There was a time in the 1950s when the word "diet" meant the kind of food that was eaten. Monkeys have diets, polar bears have diets and we have diets. The word has been morphed into something that means "a means of loosing weight" or in some cases "a means of adding muscle". I'd say, lose the word. It's getting in the way…
  • So I used to think I wore a 42 DDD or FF, I just thought the ladies were supposed to be squished together. I went to a bra store that measured me like you did (measuring tape, etc) and then I tried on a wide variety of bras in my new size 40 J. Yes, that's a Jay. But I have to say, my bras are more comfortable than they…
  • I don't understand the question and need a better definition of "cheating". I ask because I realize other people don't share my views. To me, cheating is doing something and lying about it. Whether that's to yourself while eating or to your spouse while engaging in sports, sex or business elsewhere. If the question is…
  • I think it depends on so many more things than just putting it in the little box of "cheater". Maybe their relationship has come to a point where they are feeling overly restricted and, like dieting, are self-sabotaging. Maybe they are polyamorous by nature and aren't owning it, maybe they are simply failing to communicate…
  • The risk you run is having your body reset its metabolism to a slower rate....this means more of what you eat will be converted to fat for storage because your body thinks its starving. You won't feel different, per se, but it means having a harder time losing weight (plateau) and a harder time keeping it off once you do.…
  • When I was 12, 16, 18, 22, 26...yes I did. Let's see...The Scarsdale Diet, The Atkins Diet, NutriSystem, The alphabet diet, the fruit juice diet, high protein diet, fasting diets...I would say yes, I did all those. And what I learned is that they all work. Yep. Each and every one. And then you stop "dieting" and it all…
  • I would add, focus on things that are more real, like the kind of human you are, the kind of community you want around you, the kind of friend you want and want to be. Don't obsess about the food. Food will always be a part of your life and isn't the sole reason for the weight. It's just been your comfort choice. You have…
  • I'm losing weight at 2000 calories per day and I started at 300 lbs. The automatic calculator says 2110 calories to lose 1 lbs per week. And I absolutely frown on the starvation mode diets. I've been on most of them. I've lost over 350 lbs in my lifetime, much of it on those diets, and it plays games with your head and…
  • I think I'd probably shop for a different sports bra. I have an elomi brand sports bra and have found it doesn't chafe me anywhere. It's a bit on the pricier side, but no pain is...well..no pain. :) Shop around, it sounds like a different style might rub you differently and I'd call it a celebration for a job well done!
