  • Great idea! I'm in Since July 1: Winning Monster: 2 Binge Demon: 2 Oof! Good to see it in the flesh like this. Gotta step on it! Thanks for starting this.
  • Anyone out there have a problem eating while cooking? I do!
  • Just for the record, I don't have that much weight to lose. I'm pretty close to my goal. Overall I live a pretty healthy lifestyle. I'm a Bikram yoga instructor and I practice 4-5 times per week. On weekends I'll eat just about anything (while trying to keep a watchful eye on portions, heh heh), but during the week it's…
  • I really like this post from janeinspain. I totally agree. The biggest reward would be to permanently adopt a mindset where I no longer feel a need to eat past sated. No more emotional eating. No more bored eating. No more mindless eating. The weight will take care of itself. Then there's the bikini as motivation...
  • Thanks all for your replies! Sorry it's taken so long to reply. (Why doesn't MFP notify me of replies to this thread? Something in my settings?) Part of the reason for the delay in response is that I was away for about 2 weeks. First in Portland, OR visiting friends, then in Baltimore visiting family. Both were great. I…
  • It's been a week since I posted the above with no response. Boo hoo. Oh well. I'm posting again because I keep failing in my attempts at breaking old habits. Tried again yesterday. My willpower held up until the evening and then forget it. The freshly baked bread I made and fancy cheese were calling. Sigh. Again, any…
  • Hello, I'm apple-shaped and always gain around the middle. I don't have before and after pix. Don't have much to lose but what I might tell you is that it could be easier for the apple-shaped to get muscle tone. At least it's been the case with me. The pear-shaped in my life abhor their thighs while I admire their teeny…
  • This is great. I am a fat burning warrior queen!!! Thanks for attitude adjustment.
  • 1 - i'm going to jump my husband and have fun in the sack . 2 - i'll break out all the slim-fitting clothes and put away all the fat-hiding clothes in my closet. 3 - i'll treat myself to a korean spa trip where you walk around naked a bunch. 4 - new bikini. 5 - maybe a pair of high-waisted pants or jeans a la katherine…
  • Hello! Great idea. My 3 goals today Thur. 1/5/12 1 - keep to daily caloric goal 2 - no eating in front of the TV (the hardest!!!) 3- clean up the home and wait for hubby to eat dinner (sometimes he doesn't get home 'til 9, hence TV company for dinner) Thanks!
  • Hello, I cook but not elaborately for a regular weekly meal. Generally, I'l cook about two meals a week that can be stretched out with added vegetables, starches (whole grain bread or rice), sides (hummus, pesto). The Bittman book, How to Cook Everything, is a great start. He also has recipes online at nytimes.com. Videos…
  • First: CONGRATULATIONS! That is a huge amount of weight to have lost. Good for you! Second, something that might help you if going to a therapist is not your thing is maybe going to a nutritional coach or life coach. You might need to start training to mentally talk to yourself differently. It sounds cheesy but positive…
  • You look great! I agree with the other posts. A toned 10 lbs. makes a BIG difference. Keep it up!
  • Final bit of motivation maybe: The Dangers of Yo-yo Dieting, http://www.livestrong.com/article/368946-the-dangers-of-yo-yo-dieting/ Constant fluctuations in weight loss/gain can: a) compromise your immune system making it harder to attack viruses. b) can lead to cardiovascular issues and metabolic disorders. c) makes you…
  • Anyone here read this post? http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/130545-the-real-effect-of-alcohol-on-your-waistline It really helped motivate me to STOP.
  • Whew! Glad I'm not alone. But after Thanksgiving excesses I decided to cut back SEVERELY on the alcohol. Treat it like a once in a while kinda thing. I live in NYC also and am a foodie so when the occasion comes for that special restaurant with the unique drinks, I'm-a have it. But it won't be a part of my regular weekend…
  • You're right Azdak, the enjoyment and effectiveness of any physical activity is subjective. And yes, it can get personal. I apologize if I got snippy. Up until a few posts ago I was typing from my iphone and my short responses came off as curt or rude. If I'd had more patience I would have written more elaborately to my…
  • If it were just about mild holding/stretching postures in a heated room, I would definitely agree with you. But there is more effort involved with this series. The heat does facilitate the muscles to be able to do more stretching so more is asked of the student. But your point is made. Thanks for the clarification.
  • Hi ninerbuff, You folks are really making me work for it. Just because the students are not jumping around does not mean the heart is not pumping faster. I would argue there is much happening aerobically with the heart as with running. We're holding strenuous poses in 100+ degrees of heat. The breaks between postures can…
  • Hello Azdak, Sorry I don't exactly know what 'thermal stress' means. Are you saying the heart rate is only increasing because of the heat? I disagree. Have you taken a yoga class? Have you taken a Bikram yoga class? With either but especially with Bikram there's a lot more than just passive stretching happening. Students…
  • Congrats on your first Bikram class! Go back soon! Let me know if you have any questions.
  • Like I said before, I'm no calorie-burning expert but with the Bikram yoga room heated to an average of 105 degrees I think this 90 minute experience would be an exception. Btw, the few times I've done it I've LOVED kickboxing.
  • Then there is that. It's a wonderful, blissful feeling you have after class that you carry with you the rest of your day. Thanks for reminding me Risya!
  • Hiya, I happen to be a Bikram yoga teacher. Your first time will be challenging but mostly b/c of the heat. Don't worry! After the first few times you'll get used to it & after a few months of regular practice you won't notice it much. I'm no calorie burning expert but I do believe you can burn that much in a class. There…
  • reasons for losing 1 - to fit into my clothes better and not have to think about what outfit will hide the muffin top today. 2 - to feel lighter as i walk, bike, do yoga, live in general. when i've had it, it's felt wonderful 3 - for my health, family in my mom's side has suffered diabetes, thyroid disorders and cancer. i…
  • please count me in. thanks for letting us know.
  • timely topic with the holiday indulgences. i'm considering quitting cold turkey but it's harrrrd. however i'm pretty sure i can go without drink until christmas or new year's. thanks for this topic. i'll also keep coming back to it.
  • Thanks for all the replies! stayxtrue, your reply especially rang true to me. Establishing new habits to replace old unhealthy ones has got to be the hardest. But I'm relieved to find support here.

  • Hi mim, I'm also new. This is only my 3rd week with the app and I do love it. However I have a question for anyone out there willig to tackle it. It seemed like the first & second week I was very gung ho & sticking with the caloric limit was not a problem. Now in the 3rd week I feel somewhat deprived. Could it be…
