This is my biggest problem too. I always feel foggy and headacy when in a deficit. I do know if I have a high fiber diet with higher protien it is better because it keeps my blood sugar regulated longer.

Wow thanks everyone. These are great responses. I do need to see if there is a YMCA here, other than that I think my choices are 24 hr because its close, planet fitness (not opposed but I really want zumba), and some fancy shmancy places that are kinda close but are way too pricey. I haven't thought of the Y.

Read Neal Barnard's reversing diabetes. That is a crazy diet you were given and is completely unnecessary. You can reverse metabolic syndrome by just losing the extra weight (calorie deficit) and getting in some moderate exercise every day. Good luck. (PS... I love being vegan, and it has reversed my metabolic syndrome).

This might sound rude, but bear with me. You are in denial. Either intentionally or unintentionally, or you have a severe metabolic problem that is undiagnosed. If you are a normal height and overweight or obese, you are not gaining or maintaining on 1600 cal./day. I am 5'2" 128lbs and would still lose weight if I managed…

My diary is mostly high carb, all vegan. I think I have set to friends only but I will add anyone interested. I'm still looking to loose weight, but maybe not over winter. I maintain at about 2000, 5'2" 133lb

If you really need rewards/punishments, that's fine, but using the number on the scale isn't fair to yourself. If you went over calories, skipped workouts, sabbatoged in other ways... Use the punishment there. Same with rewards. Eventually you do want the scale to move, but its the habits you want to focus on.

I say try everything until you find something you LOVE. I am madly in love with zumba and even kept up with it when I gained all my weight back (stopped tracking, oops). Of course try everything for a few times before you decide you hate it. Hope this is helpful, good luck :)

I have the flex now, had the fitbit one before. I loved the one, but I kept washing it because I forgot to un-clip it from my bra or pants. Flex is ok - it's redeeming quality is Bluetooth syncing and being able to do challenges with friends.

I don't know if you'd be willing to try, but I was just diagnosed IR and started taking metformin. All the symptoms you have are what sent me to the dr and now that I am taking the metformin I have so much more energy.

I dont log mine. I dont keep track of anything but macros and calories, so I don't worry about it.

I've been vegan for 3 months now... and here is my advice: get a good cookbook, or several. If you want low fat, use Happy Herbivore cookbooks. There is also a couple vegan groups on MFP. Good luck!
