oh aye, & if your feeling flush - i'll have one of these please & thank you...

Cyclocross is more in the area you are looking for i think - Dropped handlebars for a more agressive aerodynamic riding position which will allow for higher average speed and longer distances. Also has the ability to do light off road duties, such as canal towpaths and dodgy road surfaces (what here in the UK, surely…

I'll chip in here with advice based on personal experience rather than any formal knowledge or training. I'm new to running, graduated C25K a couple of months ago and just finished B210K, so I have relatively little experience compared to the big milers in here. Hydration makes a big difference - too little fluids prior to…

That's a good pace & a sensible approach - Nice !

Awesome work sir - your story is very similar to my own in terms of starting place and probably goal - I hope I look as good when I get there!
-
Awesome achievement - best of luck on the transition to 10K !

Broken ribs? Ouch! I bruised one when I came off my bike last summer and that hurt like hell, can't imagine what broken ones would feel like - hope you heal quickfastnotslow ! Hope the asthma clears up! I totally surprised myself with the 10k this morning, I thought I was still a couple of k off the pace, last weeks…

I wear my fitted running shoes only when I go out to run - I wear off the shelf training shoes the rest of the time. Only reason I don't wear my good ones all the time is that they cost £90, so I need them to last as long as they can for running. If they cost the same as the more casual shoes I'd wear them all day :)

I've found that the MFP database entries are hit & miss - sometimes it estimates way over & sometimes way under - probably because the database can't tell the intensity of the exercise you are doing or your own level of fitness. Walking for 10 minutes in perfect conditions on a smooth flat surface will burn less cals that…

Great job bud, keep it up !

Congrats to all you new graduates !! What do you plan to do with your running now ?
-
It's a great program, I was never a runner before but I needed to add running to my routines for triathlon training (and also for escaping the zombie apocalypse). C25K was recommended to me and i gave it a go - graduated at the 9 week mark and am now about to graduate the 10k program. Cannot tell you how much running has…

Ummm...errrr....awkward....I have no idea what it means ! I'm not at the stage where I'm increasing speed, i'm still aiming for 10k distance. Just had a wee google as you peaked my interest - 440s are 440 yards or 400 m distances --- so I guess, you run 400m at a faster pace than your normal 5k pace, rest for 3 minutes &…

Wombat has some great advice - SLOW DOWN - especially if you are going uphill, hills totally kill my already sloth like pace. It s better to build slowly to the distance and then work on bringing the speed up. I find the treadmill more difficult than outdoors now but it used to be the other way round in the early weeks of…

Looking forward to reading your graduation post - here's a link to cool runnings website, they have training plans for upping speed & distance. Choose which one you fancy and away you go..Good luck ! http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_4/index.shtml

Another light shade basher here, 6' 3" with a haircut - started weighing at 290 (was bigger), down to 216 over 15 months. 100 over 7 months is probably do-able but probably not advised, unless for medical reasons. Take a bit more time, to give your skin the time to retract. Whatever you decide - good luck !

I got the Crivit HRM from Lidl a couple of months back, apart from a weak battery in the chest strap it's been fine...was only £13. I've ordered the Lloyds one for my wife, hopefully that will be up to it.

Welcome all you newbies, I wish you well in your C25K journey !!

Sauconys are a good running shoe but maybe not for your feet, as it turns out i have Nike feet - The running shop guru had me in Mizunos, Asics, Saucys and 2 pairs of Nike - One of which fitted perfectly. As I understand it the gait analysis and getting the right fitting shoe is a major factor in minimising risk of injury.…

What a boost, nice one!

Do you warm up your achillies before running and stretch afterwards? Are you running in properly fitted running shoes, as advised by a running shop / gait analysis ?
-
Fantastic - well done !!

Fantastic job !!!

I'm a Scotsman, also without any clan history - so I wear a modern tartan, Flower of Scotland, used to wear it out hillwalking or to the opening of a fridge door. Love. It. DO IT !!

Thanks for all your positive messages - much appreciated! When I look at that photo I can see a face emerging out my t-shirt, kinda looks a bit like voldemort

Good luck with the programe, all those hills will slow you down a bit but will be great for building stamina and strength - then when you run on a flat 5k you will feel so much stronger !!

This one was mine.. It didn't survive an accidental mating with the back of a vauxhall vectra so now I have this one..

A Cyclo cross bike is halfway between a road racer (drop handlebars) and a mountainbike - it's got road gearing, higher ground clearance for mud, slightly wider nobblier tyres and sometimes disc brakes instead of the usual cantilever or caliper. They mostly get raced in the winter cross country before the road season…

My Marin San Rafael kick started my weight loss last summer, It's a great commuter bike, suspension seat post & front fork, adjustable handlebar stem so you can set the height as you want it. It's classed as a hybrid and you can do gentle hard pack trails but the tyres are too narrow if it's slippy, it's also slower than a…

Lidl had one a couple of weeks back, good range of functions and easy to set up. I've been using it and just started having an issue with the chest piece losing sync with the watch, I've replaced the battery and it's been fine since but I wouldn't have expected to replace a battery within a month. Guess you get what you…
