  • I'm 52, and NEVER ran till last November - like many of the others posting here, I started with the C25K. If you really want to start running, this is a great way to do it! It's funny, I've also had the same feelings about running "in public" (still do, in-fact) as you. I feel inside, that I'm not really a runner, & that I…
  • I just purchased Endomondo Pro ($3.99 for the Android app), and I'm waiting for my Zephyr HxM bluetooth heart rate monitor ($75.00). If you own a smart phone, methinks that this is definitely the way to go! Today was my first day working-out with the app, and it's really quite amazing - can't wait for the Zephyr to arrive!!
  • I'm in agreement with wordnerd here - you're helping her out the best way that you can, by example. Now, you can beat-yourself to a pulp trying to convert your friends, but your friends won't live healthier until THEY want to live healthier - take it from someone who struggles to live that healthier life... for himself!
  • Yeah, I remember W5D3 to be just terrible also, but funny thing - when you finally get by it, getting to the 5K mark is quite easy. I actually didn't finish the C25K program, because after week 7, I found that I could just run the 5K, and have been doing so 3-4 times a week. What a feeling!!!! I'm going to bask in my glory…

  • Thanks so much for sharing this helpful and very inspiring story! I'm 52, and am quite new to running - I've never run, even when I was a teen. I regret the choice of being sedentary, and have finally discovered the benefit of being active. I started running on a track in November, and want to run a 5K this spring... as a…
  • I'm currently running in week 6 of C25K, I think it's great also, and have been running it on a track. I'm not so much worried about being seen in public (people see me (trying to) run now), I'm more worried about running over hill-and-dale outside. That track is so level and smoooooth!!!
  • BUMP... ...because this is definitely something worthy of discussion! I've become a fan of naturally-flavored, salt-free seltzer. If you buy the store brands (I personally drink Polar brand), it's fairly inexpensive - and can be treated (counted) as water consumption without complication. I believe that it's a viable way…
  • Agreed! ...or for a slightly Jamaican twist (Caribbean Chinese?? Polynesian???) - try using coconut oil - it really makes the flavor of those veggies pop!

  • I've been using Birdseye stirfry veggis, adding either/and ham, chicken breast meat, shrimp - and making my own... tastes great, alleviates my Chinese food jones, is relatively inexpensive and is low calorie.

  • I use it for cooking my stirfry veggies, and making bread. Yeah, I know - why am I eating bread... right? I feel that if you're gonna eat it, you might as well make it as healthy as you can. As far as the stirfry - it gives them a subtle coconut flavor that's really quite delicious!
  • Wow, that's a very long plateau! Question about your workouts - are you doing strength/muscle-building exercises? If you're building muscle (which is denser than fat... & so it takes-up less space per pound), then the scale may tell you that you aren't progressing. So, are starting you to look leaner?
  • I've been walking-only for about 2 months now, but I completed my very first C25K workout today... it wasn't bad at all. I downloaded workout session podcasts (1 workout session per week) from www.c25k.com, several days ago, in anticipation of this day. The podcast was good at keeping my motivation level up (I've NEVER…
  • I like rice, and have been buying quinoa as an alternative. I made a quinoa pilof the other day by cooking the quinoa in chicken broth, and adding some stir fry veggies... it tasted great! I guess you could also add some boneless cooked chicken to make it a 1-pan meal. I've been cooking my stir frys in coconut oil, which…
