because that all or nothing attitude is how many people got into this unhealthy mess in the first place. For some people little changes at a time will lead to bigger changes in the long run and over all healthier living. I bet I am way healthier with my diet coke daily and my otherwise vegetarian diet, and daily working…

Oh, point 2...if you are at a hotel...then wrap a towel around the kids and go back to the room to change. or throw some sweats on over damp suit and do a quick change in the car. My kids are swimmers...all four of them, and we have done complete wardrobe changes in the bleachers...from swimwear to street clothes, by…

We have faced this issues a million times taking my 3 daughters to their swim lessons were then were younger as they were toddler classes going on the same time as the bigger kid classes. We had to insist on the 6 and under policy saying if a child is 6 and under they can accompany mom or dad into a different gender locker…

Every picture I looked at I had an immediate impression...either Wow..she looks awesome, or eh...this one looked awesome. However if I picked the photo apart to see if she was perfect I could say, well I think her hair is bottle blond and I don't like how it looks like she is pulling off her bottoms as that makes her belly…

I will do it again as I enjoyed the race except for the impending Hurricane Sandy which made for tricky weather for me but this is right on concerning the getting too and leaving the finish area aspect. When I do it again i will make sure I have time to enjoy the finish area so I don't feel like I have to wait for the…

That doctor is an asshat. If he said what you said he said, not what you understood, but if he said those things, he needs to be reported to his medical group. Suggesting you get healthy is one thing, dismissing your feeling about losing a child, and telling you dangerous diet advice is entirely another I suffered 2…

this is right on. You have to keep doing what is good for you. Do your races. Eat your healthy food. You can let him know that as you are getting fitter and healthier you feel as if you are losing respect for him but outside of that you CANNOT do a damn thing to MAKE him change. You can communicate effectively with him…

Sometimes I make myself a ten minute deal...do ten minutes If I am still miserable after 10 minutes I can stop. Usually a few minutes into the run, workout, walk, I feel better. Sometimes I feel horrible and I stop after 10 minutes but I still did 10 minutes, which is more than I would have done if I stayed in my mood. I…

This is the message I keep trying to tell people, expecially those who are just starting out or who are frustrated about their lives, or whatever....just do something and other things will follow.

You can still report it...no one...you or anyone else needs to be spoken to like that

If you spending a lot of time on non fitness related websites and in person talking about fitness and food and calories and weight loss it may seem to others that you are flaunting your success. There are people I can talk about running with, talk about my frustrations with a missed time or not placing in my age division,…

sleep, hot shower, vitamin C and a visit to the chiropractor...When everything is in line you heal faster. I know people will think I am crazy but when my kids and husband all got a nasty flu I was really in good shape chiropractically speaking. I never got the flu despite caring for my kids, working in a school with other…

I have been a non meat eater for nearly 16 years...I did a one month trial run and I make my own rules..so I might eat eggs, milk, foods cooked with meat...ie pot pie I just don't eat the chicken chunks...once when I was pregnant with my oldest I had a turkey sandwich...that repulsed me taste and texture wise, it just…

I bet people think I am a newbie a few times a year but in all reality I am pretty dedicated, I only use the gym when other options/fitness rooms/ childcare opportunities are too tricky. I run, I do workouts at home, I use the fitness room at my school, I hike, or ice skate or do crazy intervals in between loads of…

If you are running one mile now I would say that you should give yourself a year....but if you are looking for a fall marathon...although I stress I would look more into spring marathons of 2014 to avoid injury, I would slowly build myself running 3 days a week until you can comfortably run 6 miles by the 1st week in…

Rant beginning You do not have any idea the history of that child/parent thus do not have any idea if the child is actually a spoiled rotten brat or not. Did dad buy him what he wanted? Did dad give in to the child's demands? Perhaps child has autism and this is a fit that the child does not want to be experiencing any…

i guess the thread of wisdom to come from this whole thread is that 1) chiropractors do not as a general rule advise agaubst heavy lifting....but may in OP's case based om info we are not privy to. 2)people feel very strongly for or against chiropractic medicine,,,3) any profession has great practicioners and some crappy…

My chiropractor just opened a CrossFit gym and competes in CrossFit cometitions. He pesters me to lift me more as I am a marathon runner...so no my chiropractor would not say what yours did.

I wonder if at the higher weight the "connection" between the HRM and the HR was not as good. My weight has not changed for the last few years but when I am cold my HRM is all wonky. The "connection" to my body is not as good. Could it have been the extra fat getting in the way of a proper HR reading. You know those…

First of all....finding the right calorie target can be tricky...need enough but not too much. Also, if one has a bad week during weight loss they might not lose as much that week. If one has a bad week or two in maintenance they will gain. As soon as there is a gain people have the emotional struggle of needing to not…

I would say make smaller changes....if you make the first week so hard you are likely to quit. make small adjustments then when they become habit move onto the next one

I am a distance runner and this is a common injury for us. Are you using a foam roller to stretch out the IT band? Does the PT have you stretching the bejeezus out of the area? I have never heard of anyone having surgery for this, is yours tight or torn? Rest and, painful and intensive stretching are the go to treatments…

Turbo Fire reminded me of the dancey aerobics of decades past but tougher...LOL.. I have done a few workouts of each..the Chalean workouts are more balanced cardio/strength and the Turbo Fire were just cardio but I admit that I have only done 4 of the chalean workouts and 3 of the Turbo Fire as those are the workouts a…

This is what it is all about. I can push for faster times and newer distances and smaller clothes etc but the mental piece of mind is really what gets me out there. Good for you.

If you are often really hungry you may need to tweak things....ie more protein in a meal to keep you feel satisfied etc...also I wonder if you are eating enough...can you add a snack midday and still have a nice deficit and thus not feel hungry???then you are more likely to stick with this

Depends on your mileage and wear outside of running. I wear mine about 250 miles and get a new pair for running and transition the older pair into walk about/fitness shoes...I do not my "active" running shoes for any other purpose than running...I am just too busy, tired and Old to deal with aches due to shoes. If you have…

Fruits and veggies are awesome but are pretty easy for our bodies to use as fuel so we use them up fairly quickly. A protein source slows the process down and you won't feel as hungry...I always eat the 2 together...apples and peanut butter ..blueberries and soy nuts...bananas with light string cheese...carrots and almonds
