  • I refuse to go to bed hungry but I can manage hunger during the day. Therefore I am really strict during the day and eat the same breakfast, lunch and snack nearly every day, therefore I leave room in my late afternoon and evening for a more hearty meal so I feel satisfied at bed. Anytime I went to bed hungry I felt…
  • I think it depends on your goals. My goals are cardio based in that I love to run and do marathons etc. I do circuit training and strength training for injury prevention and overall health but my fitness goals are cardio goals, so I prioritize cardio first. If I were looking for significant strength gains or to develop a…
  • I am 5'0" as well and hover between 118-125. When I am 125 I feel frumpy and at 118 I feel like I look good but my energy is not always good. I do weight training and exercise quite a bit and know that for an ol 44 year old woman that in order for me to be less than 118 I would have to be extremely low body fat or lose…
  • Do what you enjoy. I prefer running to cycling as my hips get sore when I cycle long enough for a good workout. If you do run, start slow. You are not running in a race..just increase your gait from a walk to a jog ...not a full run
  • BMI always makes me laugh at how upset it can make people. It is a range determined by height and weight only. The proportion is then put into a range scale that CAN be a factor in determining health. People get all hinky because the words OVERweight and OBESE are horrible words and we immediately imagine a body type that…
  • I really love to workout. Sometimes a spell of really early work outs is necessary for me. I have found that I can swim and/or lift in the early AM hours but if I run in the early morning, at least before I have been up a solid hour with coffee and breakfast, that my favorite activity of all becomes a horrible chore. I…
  • Biggest thing is to not binge eat just because you have done a long run...track your calories and fuel up. I found that giving myself 90-95 calories per mile to be a quicker easier way to calculate my burn. 95 calories if I was working speed on tracks etc and 90 for nice little trots.
  • I have very different dietary needs as most of my family. My husband and 3/4 of my kids are meat eaters. I am a vegetarian and am Gluten and Dairy free...as is one of my 4 kids. I do the best I can to make stuff like rice and vegetables and meat separate so that every one can make a plate of what works for them. Sometimes…
  • I have some crazy weird reaction to stevia. It reminds me of gallbladder attacks or a heart attack. I feel horrible when I consume stevia. I once tried a product that was "all natural" supplement that made me think I needed to go to the ER. I know others who love all things with stevia. I guess it is like so many other…
  • I am a high school teacher and I have 4 busy kids. When the kids were younger and I stayed at home with them I found time to exercise by using the gym day care. Now they do not need constant supervision so I can work out anywhere. When I went back to teaching, the kids were busy but they all did the same activities and our…

  • Interestingly, logging does allow me to feel ok about the type of food as long as I stay UNDER my goal.
  • Pretty certain I have never been able to respond to hunger/full cues. I am able to deny hunger but not recognize the cue that I have had enough.
  • It might not be holier than though attitudes. I could not care less what you eat the struggle I have is with myself and I think that is what the original post is trying to say ...stop the internal struggle. I just have no freaking idea of how to do that without going off the deep end of unhealthy patterns of crap food and…
  • I suffer from feeling the need to deserve food but I am an extreme type person. If I am not following "the rules" then I feel out of control. I do not enjoy indulgences as I regret them and cannot just eat in moderation. How does one find it in them to be able to eat freely without needing to be a fitness site in which…
  • I am a firm believer in acupuncture. My husband and I both did judo for a number of years. In a few weeks time, we sustained very similar shoulder injuries, common to judo players. I got mine treated immediately with acupuncture and he never did. I was back to full range of motion and feeling good within a few weeks, he…
  • The favorite part of my birthday is a kick *kitten* run. I have a June birthday and the weather is usually nice so I go for a hard run so I can feel bad *kitten* and powerful all day long.
  • Start with small changes..like you have done with cutting out pop. Then move on to another small change..like a breakfast that is nutrient dense and lower in calories than your normal breakfast...don't worry about the rest of your day just focus on breakfast for one week...then when the next week starts..keep your new…
  • the only slippery slope is setting up a system for yourself that you find ways around. I actually think that your approach is good and if it helps, especially in the app versions of this site, look at your weekly data to see just how well you have done over the week as opposed to looking at each day alone. This has helped…
  • A dx on a forum page is not your best course of action...but when I changed my diet about 15 years ago to a primarily plant based diet I would have gallbladder attacks if I ate something fatty/greasy. Doctor said it was not uncommon for that to happen. Speak to a doctor.
  • I counted calories for years with great success before going gluten and dairy free at the advice of a doctor. The reduction in headaches and hormonal swings is great since going gluten and dairy free but IN NO WAY is my diet more nutrient dense/more appropriate/more weight loss friendly by eliminating those things. I still…
  • I understand too tired. I understand crazy tiny windows of opportunity to make a workout happen. I understand being out of shape. BUT, you can't get in shape if you don't exercise and every tiny window of time that you do have free offers something...a walk, dancing in your dorm room/apartment with no one watching, a few…
  • I do not really have time to exercise either but I do. Be careful here at MFP at claiming that as you will get people's schedules and get told that there is no excuse. Some days are harder than others believe me, but if you think exercise will help your energy you can do it...you do not have to exercise though to be…
  • While I do eat 5 times a day...3 meals and 2 snacks I cannot get it my head to eat 6 small meals as my snacks are definitely snacks and my meals are definitely meals..my thoughts when I tried the 6 small meals thing is that I never felt fed, just held over until the next snack and thus I actually found I obsessed about…
  • Currently, my husband and I are at different fitness levels but he is working on his. I have made it clear to him, gently, that I have goals and that I will get my workouts done in order to reach my goals but I would love to find ways to incorporate working together when possible...such as doing some runs together, when…
  • Run by time instead of distance for a while. I will sometimes say I am going to run for 20 minutes or whatever instead of saying 2.2 miles...Because I am nuts I will then go and use the mapmyrun website to see how far I went.

  • I did not have so much as a cranky moment related to TOM before having my 4th child and only son. My hormones where whacked beyond belief after giving birth to him. I tried 7 different BC in 2.5 years...The PMDD I experienced were horrible. I did not have predictable TOM, even on the pill, and only knew when I might be…
  • I understand both sides of the story as we dealt with lice 6 years ago and I still hate the thought of ever having to deal with it ever again. I educated people on what I knew. Explained the treatments I used and how obsessively thorough I was being about the infestation..then I simply asked.."If I had told you that we had…
  • This is true only to a certain extent...I can put myself in all kinds of shape wear and my basic shape is still my basic shape..just smoothed out... I cannot make myself an hourglass figure with shape wear..I can create illusions that make me look slightly more shapely instead of boyish but still...at the end of the…
  • ^^^ they also have a bit of a tendency to go hand in hand as you can often eat MORE high quality food for the same amount of calories of crap
  • sit on a yoga ball and do tae bo like punches..yes you will have to do a lot but boxing is a great work out
