I finally put the name of our liquor shop on the sides of my trailer...... .... now I have to be on my best behavior  (It says "Masutoh Saketen" or Masutoh Liquor Shop)

I've been very pleased with http://www.aerotechdesigns.com/ they have big sizes too :blushing: and their shipping to Japan has been cheap and fast! For a good pair of shorts that go over your cycling shorts, but do not get in the way I LOVE the "Pedal Pushers" They are a very light fabric, they dry quickly, they are tough,…

Enjoy your ride!

The software here is funky, you have to use the lower case letters for the image tags...... << Don't work, the image tags are upper case << should work I used img instead of IMG Funky eh? Nice looking Fuji! Also the pics max width seems to be about 450, so you can resize your image for that width, I hope this…

I got my bike back together! The parts of the hub that are bad are still bad, but it should last a week until the new parts arrive!! I opened my Shimano Alfine 8-Speed to service it, clean and lube it, but when I got it open, I found that there were a ton of metal flakes everywhere, NOT good. I had to tear the whole thing…

Congrats on the bike shorts and gloves, they can make time in the saddle a lot more comfortable! A helmet is a must, too many stupid people out there! Welcome!

jrrflr I understand how you feel, I used to be from the great white north, but now in Tokyo I can ride almost everyday, some are on the cool side, some are on the stupid hot and humid side, but I can ride almost all the time!:drinker: (not trying to rub it in, just saying I get where you are coming from) Went to the…

Took my hub apart to service it and found some badly worn internals, turns out Mr Shimano does NOT sell any of the small parts I need, I have to basically buy the whole guts of the unit. I'm not very impressed Mr. Shimano:mad: Whole new hub costs about $250, I wonder what they will want for the major internal piece that is…

Yeah it sucks to wear out parts on a bike, but that is the way it goes, tyres, wheels, chains, brake pads, these things wear out and need to be replaced. Too bad you can't get the same rims, but maybe you'll find something else you end up liking. So you too build your own wheels eh? I recently built a wheel lacing stand…

Bump I want to read this but don't have the time right now.

The only two items I'd spring for from the Ultegra groupset are the derailer and the cassette, they are only slightly more money than the 105 stuff, but shift so much nicer! Cheers!
-
That is great Yin! My total for the year is just 444 Km, which I'm happy with, ahead of last year. Most of that is towing the trailer full of beer. Cheers!
-
Got a total of 72 minutes in tugging the trailer full of beer today, busy day, I also got my run in, the C25K thing, first time I ran a full three minutes in a LOOOOONG time, how sad is that  but I did it. Seems my running is helping my cycling too! Hope you all had a good day!

And she's a beauty! Full 105 Group? I think that Shimano 105 is just about the best bang for the buck out there, used to be a big step between 105 and Ultegra, but they are closer now in performance, but the price of the 105 is still much lower than the Ultegra. About the only thing I would upgrade to Ultegra when…

Thanks, I might have to get one for my Lrrb as the summers here in Tokyo are KILLER hot and humid and I have only one bottle rack.

I'm a skin cancer survivor, so for ME, nay. I'll not pretend to know what is best for YOU  Wanna see some scars?
-
It has been cool in Tokyo, they are saying it is one of the coldest winters in Tokyo in a long time, but I have not noticed it this year, I think this is mainly because when I'm out there doing deliveries, I'm sweating on the bicycle keeping myself warm  That and I'm much fitter than I was last year. Like I said, it…

Way to go, that is the kind of lifestyle change that we need to make to get healthy!! Kudos!

Welcome Jason, that is an amazing thing you have done for yourself!:drinker:

Talking about tune ups and such I took my trailer into the Dungeon workshop on Friday night, and on Sunday night, about midnight I was finally done the tune up and modifications Tune up wise I took the wheels off and repacked the bearings, one was OK, the other was not good at all, but still serviceable, I also cleaned the…

You still use film? Wow cool! :glasses: I hear you about the calories it is a hard thing to figure out sometimes, I've got a Polar HRM/cycling computer, I use it to set my baselines for city riding or my trailer tugging duties, I wore if for about a week everyday while doing my deliveries and then figured out a baseline of…

Really sorry to hear about your bad back, it is something that I worry about all the time, we run a liquor shop, I'm 47 going on 48, all of our friends who run liquor shops, and over the years we have had many, all of them, over 50 have bad backs. I think it is because we are constantly lifting heavy stuff, (there is no…

3000 MILES? fantastic, yeah treat Fiona to a nice tune up, maybe even a nice new set of shoes

Might be a warranty issue there...... no front wheel  Sorry I couldn't help myself! Congrats, that looks like a great ride, and you have EARNED it :drinker:

That is your commute :noway: What kind of fixed ratio do you ride? I need to start running again, I have a nice treadmill at my house, I guess I should take all of the wife's plants off it and spark it up again... :blushing:

I'm right in the same place as you are, things are a bit wonky right now in life, huge changes going on for the family, nothing bad, just changes, and I too am up a bit from my lowest weight, but I'm just keeping on keeping on for now. I figure if I do my best to log, and not cheat too much, as well as keep in the habit of…

I got in a good 28 minutes on deliveries today, that is the actual rolling time on my bike with the trailer I use to deliver beer etc to my customers here in Tokyo. That is my bike and trailer set up. It is really windy here today, and cold, for Tokyo with a high just above freezing. I was bombing down a nice road on a…

Sweetness and light

Nice! What is that on the seat post, is it a second waterbottle holder? If so, how do you find it, can you use it while riding? My bike has only two water bottle holders and in the summer here in Japan, I'm constantly looking for places to get water, a third or a fourth bottle holder would help with this  so I've…

Welcome Chris!
