Get B12 levels checked. Get checked for celiac disease. Exchange at least a portion of the spinach for other dark greens. Spinach contains oxalates, which block the absorption of iron. Cook in cast iron. Combine vitamin C and iron rich foods. Don't take calcium or other minerals at the same time as iron. I was actually…

Um, no. it is not usual for any young menstruating woman to get anemic if not taking an iron supplement.

Pressure cooker. If you're at a high elevation it doesn't matter how long you soak or cook, they won't be soft, unless you use a pressure cooker.

I take a probiotic in pill form, but some other options might be: - coconut yogurt - the one commercial product I know of uses rice starch in it, but there are instructions to make your own online - fermented foods like kimchi, sauerkraut, or homemade pickles

Soy in particular can be problematic for celiacs. I have heard it suggested that the long protein molecules are similar to gluten proteins, but I don't know if that is true or not. Because of the damage that gluten causes to the gut in celiacs, undigested food molecules leak into the bloodstream that are not supposed to.…

I haven't been tested, but I have issues with meat, grains, dairy, eggs, almonds, walnuts, dates, pineapple.

I have been trying this: run faster for 20 strides, slow down a bit and catch my breath, run faster for 20 strides again. I've just been doing it this week, trying to build some speed, and I have improved cadence from 76 to 86. iSmoothRun also has a metronome, you can keep bumping the cadence up a bit each week.

Canada's gluten labeling regulations just went into place within the last couple of months. Hang in there.

No, amaranth and quinoa are not grains. They are part of the same family as beets. Flax is also not a grain. Bulgar, triticale, and farina are all wheat. So they are grains.

I've looked at recipes for those Brazilian rolls. My cousin has a girlfriend in Brazil. I'd have to make them dairy free, use Daiya or something. Note that quinoa pasta and the bread you mention are not grain free. We are not looking for products which are not just gluten free, but have no grains at all. No rice, corn,…

I couldn't run to the next lamp-post when I started. But I figured "if I can walk fast, why can't I run slow?" and started off running (jogging) at my walking pace, or maybe even a bit slower. Built up some endurance, and then started building on speed. I'm much faster now (LOL) and my longest run so far is 23 km.

Since there didn't seem to be a grain-free group on MFP (plenty of gluten-free or paleo, but those won't necessarily suit those who are grain free) I have created one: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/8298-grain-free Come on over and share your tips and favourite grain-free recipes.

This is my own recipe. Better than any of the corn or rice flour tortillas you'll find out there, and better than most of the wheat ones! I'm not a big "bread" person, but I love tortillas. My hubby and son beg for these. Great for tacos, falafel wraps, or pbj! Easy Homemade Flour Tortillas 2 teaspoons Salt (optional) 2…

I don't know where this one originally came from. I have to try subbing out the egg, but I can tell you it works very nicely with the egg. One of the best pie crusts ever, even beats out a lot of wheat crusts. Not grainy like a rice flour crust. Lily's GF Pie Crust - my grain-free, dairy-free modifications 1/3 cup…

My dad's and grandma's main symptoms were migraines. I hope gluten free helps him!

Are you getting enough sleep? Enough to eat?

If a test (blood or biopsy) is positive, it is positive. If it is negative, it could be a false negative. Although you don't see any symptoms in him right now (though I question why you got the tests done if there were no symptoms), there may be a lot of things going on that you aren't seeing, or aren't connecting with…

I should say that I have problems with acne as well, had to see a specialist and use antibiotics and differen for six months to get it cleared up last time. This time it was getting really bad, and I was upset I was going to have to go back on antibiotics etc. again to get rid of it. I had been putting off using coconut…

Surprisingly, no. Don't use a lot. Massage it in well. Putting oil on your skin topically actually "calms" your skin's oil production down; using an astringent that strips the oil from your skin makes your skin's oil glands produce more.

An allergic response produces histamines. Celiac/gluten intolerance produces antibodies. Someone with a mild allergy can sometimes tolerate small amounts of an item, or one form (cooked) over another (raw), or only a certain variety (spelt, but not modern wheat; goat's milk but not cow's milk,) etc. People diagnosed with…

I make this muffin recipe, subbing 1 cup buckwheat flour and 1 cup tapioca flour for the spelt and oat flour: http://lowfatveganchef.com/fat-free-vegan-pumpkin-raisin-muffins/ (You can play with this recipe in all different ways - add choc chips, raisins, nuts, seeds, etc. - swap out the pumpkin puree for mashed bananas,…

I don't generally make loaves of bread, but I make these lovely rolls: http://www.grainfreeliving.com/recipes/breads/99-grain-free-white-bread-rolls I have made loaves with the same recipe, and they were very nice. But I find rolls to be a bit more forgiving.

Some doctors will insist that it is only celiac disease if there are flattened villi in the biopsy. They would consider antibodies in the blood but no villi damage to be "non celiac gluten intolerance". Other doctors believe that flattened villi are just one possible symptom on the spectrum of celiac disease, and that it…

Yes, absolutely. If his bloodwork is showing antibodies, he should be avoiding gluten. A friend of mine has a son whose bloodwork was positive, and his biopsy was negative, and the doctor told them to just keep feeding him gluten, and to bring him back in a few years to see if he has any gut damage yet. This is the *wrong*…

I eat vegan and grain free with multiple other allergies, and I can still manage pizza, pancakes, tacos, muffins, etc. I don't do pasta a lot, but there are plenty of choices around for rice, corn, or quinoa based noodles. There are lots of gluten-free cookbooks and blogs that have a kid-friendly focus. If you need any…
