  • Heat can make inflammation worse.
  • My go-to breakfast right now is a baked potato, with or without chili/salsa, and buckwheat porridge with fruit. Hash browns and buckwheat pancakes are nice too. Sweet potato, savoury or with fruit can be good.
  • Sounds like you need to sleep in separate rooms.
  • 6 hrs is a good night for me. 5.5-5.7 is about average.
  • Or you could walk and then stop and stretch for the cool down.
  • What are you wearing on your feet? Where do they hurt? What kind of pain is it?
  • Oh, and another - sleeping too much can also cause depression. Try to sleep on a regular schedule and don't change by more than half an hour or so even on the weekend.
  • So, everybody started/ready to start a new grade? We've been homeschooling from day 1, and are just starting high school (grade 9) so only 4 years left (or however long it takes to complete grade 12, we might add an extra year or two, depending on what kiddo decides he wants to do and how much we get accomplished. Remember…
  • A couple of other recommendations that I don't see mentioned: - supplementing omega 3's - a food allergy or intolerance can also cause severe depression. Gluten, dairy, etc. can have a huge effect on mood.
  • If it says it can be used instead of wheat, then it is obviously not just nutritional yeast. 'cause you can't sub one for the other. Odd that it would be labelled that way. Modified food starch may contain wheat, but in North America is more likely to be corn. Did it say it was wheat derived, or was that your assumption?
  • I'm grain free if you need any help.
  • When I initially went gluten free, it was just because my son (adopted) needed to go gluten free, and I knew that if there was gluten in the house he would still eat it. I did experience withdrawal from it, but thought nothing of it. I ate gluten one day when I was away from home, and that was the first time I realized…
  • The Nature's Plus - Fruitein Shake powder has soy in it. The *first* ingredient is: "Proprietary non-GMO protein blend (rice protein, pea protein and soy [isolated soy protein and fermented soy])"
  • I think that you are not understanding there is a difference between "unhealthy" and "intolerant". I don't think anyone here is accusing you of eating things that are unhealthy. Please don't take it that way. Your diary does include: meat - besides the fish and seafood, also progresso chicken and vegetable, elk burger,…
  • Day two of vegan or day two of bodybuilding? Or both? Do you have a vegan "idol" you are following?
  • Everybody's going to need something different. I had to find a shoe that would accommodate my two different sizes of feet, and a deep enough heel cup and enough eyelets to accommodate a lift. That's a very different problem than the usual pronate/neutral question or cushioning/minimalist controversy. Take your old runners…
  • I see lots of good advice on this thread (LOL). I can't quite get my head around your motivation/concern. I feel like you left it out of your original post (and honestly, I haven't read every page in the thread to see if you have expounded further). Is your concern that she has an eating disorder? Because that's a whole…
  • I still see small amounts of dairy, meat, and soy in your diary. Oatmeal can contain gluten and could be causing problems because of that, or you could be sensitive to grains other than just gluten grains. Other things I see in your diary that could cause problems: cabbage, kale, beans, large amounts of fruit at a time;…
  • Sounds like you're celiac. It often runs with Hashimotos, and the damage to the guts allows food molecules into the bloodstream that result in multiple allergies. A lot of food allergies have environmental cross-reactions. I like your attitude and fully agree - I don't care how limited my diet is, I will always find…
  • Twin infants, and you think that gives you the right to complain about being busy? Kidding, of course. With my additional dietary constraints, there aren't any frozen meals that I could eat, but I do cook from scratch, usually preparing my meals in 15-20 minutes. So maybe I can offer some convenience tips, what to do when…
  • Don't get hung up on "complete protein". The fact is, that even white potatoes or rice have all of the essential amino acids in them, in higher enough quantities to sustain life/promote health. There is no need to eat "complementary proteins" or "complete proteins". http://drmcdougall.com/misc/2007nl/apr/dairy.htm

  • I'm out with a bug right now. Kept running for a week, but just kept getting tired-er and more congested and sickish. So I finally gave in and am taking a break for a few days.
  • You bet. Grain free and vegan. You'll see some eggs in my diary if you go back a bit, but I have recommitted to vegan. Right now I am journalling my food in the notes section rather than counting calories, so just scroll down. Eating out? I don't do it a lot. Some possibilities: - salad - raw fruit and veggies - steamed or…
  • Yes, nutritional yeast should be gluten free.
  • Yep. All grains are a problem for me. Corn is also a problem for my dad, for my son (adopted), and for one of my close friends. Son still eats it and suffers the consequence. I much prefer to be healthy! My friend breaks out in a terrible rash.
  • Good thinking. I would also point out that the reason to monitor your sleep isn't to make you feel bad, but to give you a comparison between 'today' and 'usually'. If it normally tells you that you have 8 hrs, and last night said 5 hrs, you know that your sleep quality last night was much worse (but you probably already…
  • I would try setting it on normal, and see if what you get there is closer to reality. I have tried both the sensitive and the normal setting. On normal, I can usually remember waking up or moving around at each point that it says I woke up. On sensitive, it shows waking periods when I knew I didn't wake up. Try both, and…
  • I felt withdrawal for a good 2-4 weeks, but was also probably getting glutened regularly during that time period as I figured out what I could eat and what I had to get rid of. I have no trouble getting enough calories on a grain free and vegan diet! I am running and strength training and have no problem eating 2500-3500…
