Nicely done! For those, like me, who have to see it in km: 5:53 min/km 9.8 km I would be very happy to get up to that speed. I am working at 6:30 min/km right now. You do have some height/stride length over me, though. I started running last year in May - so almost a year now - and my speed on those first runs was about 11…

Very similar to my diet. I do eat some sugar and no meat, but I am also grain free, dairy free, etc. For me there was no resulting weight loss (in fact, whenever I take something out of my diet I tend to gain weight, making up for it elsewhere or experimenting with new recipes!) But I do feel better and get sick less.

Re: Yams versus Sweet Potatoes Unless you are going to an ethnic grocer, chances are you have never seen real yams (g. dioscorea), just different varieties of sweet potatoes (Ipomoea batatas). Both come in a variety of different colours of flesh. You won't likely see yams unless you go to an African grocery. And just for…

Here's an interesting article linking meat allergies to ticks: http://allergicliving.com/index.php/2012/04/10/profile-author-john-grishams-allergy-mystery/

Great job!

It refers to a sort of picnic or bbq off the tailgate of your truck in the parking lot of a big sports event.

Whoops - vegans don't eat honey, as a rule.

My kiddo reacts to corn as well as gluten grains, though not as much. My dad reacts to corn and sorghum as well as gluten. I have given up all grains.

Potatoes, strawberries, lentils, bananas

Caveat: I am vegetarian, not vegan. Still eat eggs, but no other animal products. Breakfast - hot cereal (buckwheat, quinoa), fruit and nuts, baked potato, leftovers, homemade muffins or pancakes Other favourite foods - curries, soups, stir fries, tacos, falafels, pizza, veggie burgers. Favourite recipe sources - internet…

If you crack the shell and use the whole egg, it is a whole food. If you're getting something out of a box, it's processed, and you'll have to pay attention to whether it is whole, what has been added, and how it has been processed.

All your favourite veggies, a bit of garlic, some pineapple, water chestnuts.

I just made falafels yesterday. They were awesome and everybody raved about them.

How heavy are your kids? How many reps can you manage?

I gained when I started running. Allowed myself to eat too much because I was burning so much more running. Didn't start losing until I cut my calories.
-
Lots of good food suggestions so far. Feel free to browse my diary and look for the higher calorie items! I don't have any trouble reaching my calorie goals.

I don't do any grains, and instead of oatmeal I have hot buckwheat cereal or cooked quinoa (whole, rather than flakes). A cup of either of those is pretty filling, and I have it with some low-sugar fruit, and maybe some nuts. When I amke pancakes (buckwheat) then I make lots and freeze leftovers, so I often have pancakes…

I was just rebandaging my hand today (fell while running yesterday - road rash!) and remembered that the moleskin also slipped when I had blisters on my arch. It was fine on the toes, but I guess I sweat more in the arch. What worked on the arch was actually Second Skin burn dressings. The "lasts" in the Asics are…
-
Nope, I need a lift in one shoe, so minimalist shoes won't work for me. Also run in the snow . . .
-
Are they Asics? Replace the insole with a gel insole. Wear running socks. I bandage and keep running. Moleskin works better than bandaids on arches.

If your fats are not high enough, your skin will suffer.

Stomach and head are better today. Could be pesticides. I'll make another attempt today, after washing very well! My body has been so sensitive the last few weeks.

Ended up with a migraine so bad that my boss sat with me for half an hour while I waited for my hubby to arrive to pick me up, and walked me out to the car to make sure I didn't pass out on the way. That has mostly passed - just a little vertigo and noise sensitivity now - and only the stomach ache remains. I'll have to…

I am grain-free and was just thinking yesterday that I need to do this one of these days! Of course mine would also be veg and dairy-free, but it would still be lasagna, right?
-
Awww, guys. Come on. Take care of yourselves. Plan ahead - don't count on anyone else to have enough food for you. Take emergency food or have a fall-back plan. I don't want you to be sick!
-
Homemade will always be better than what you can find on the shelf/in the freezer, in my opinion. I am now completely grain-free, so store-bought products are out for me anyway. I have lots of great recipes and am always looking for more.
-
How long have you been on the diet? I had "withdrawal" symptoms for about a month after going off of gluten. The first two weeks were the most severe.
-
From what I am reading, it will be a very mild flavour when raw; I am hoping I'll be able to use it in place of almond flour in a lot of those grain-free recipes that I have had to skip over until now. And then to intensify the flavour, I would need to roast it. In the oven like granola or on the stove top like a roux or…

We don't get PB2 here, so I can't compare. If I rub it between thumb and finger it doesn't leave an oily residue on my fingers. It does not reconstitute at 1:1. Just makes sort of a slurry. 2:1 is closer to peanut butter texture, but doesn't look anything like peanut butter. It is white with brown specks.

I have hemp protein, add some to my pancakes and other grain free baking on occasion.
