Paradoxically, I was always borderline anemic until I went vegetarian. Then my iron when back to normal. And this was before my celiac diagnosis. I quit red meat because it would make me throw up for three days, especially if I had dairy with it. My theory is that (because I am intolerant of it) it was probably causing a…

Don't base your feelings of self-worth on what you think "everyone" is doing. You do your best, and what you can do will improve over time. Everybody here didn't start with being able to do a 500 calorie burn. There are plenty here who don't exercise at all. You're just seeing what you want to. Are you doing more today…

Coldest so far -25C. Not bad. More difficult is running in deep snow, poor visibility, etc. And I need a face mask that doesn't fog up my glasses, so I don't miss the curbs . . . Pam

My first half. I am going to use Hal Higdon. I previously used Jeff Galloway iPhone App for 10K training. Pam

I was going to suggest some nuts and a bit of exercise - assuming that exercise lowers your BG level. Pam (not a doctor)

How frustrating. I assume they have checked your B12 and other vitamin levels, and told you how to increase your iron absorption. Pam

I have half a banana before the run, and on a long run take some homemade trail mix with me. Dried fruit and nuts, maybe chocolate chips, and if I feel like it, some Stinger or Sharkie chews. Pam

Vegetarian almost 20 years, celiac, food allergies. I eat well, the only nutritional issues is not getting too many calories!. I run and work out daily. Pam

Many of these are allergy symptoms rather than celiac symptoms. Of course, there's no reason you can't have both. Pam

Anemia is a common result of celiac. As your gut heals, your anemia should get better. You may need to supplement in the meantime. What did your doctor say? Pam

I don't have space for a bike or treadmill. - I run and walk outdoors - I use wii, dvd's, dumbells, yoga mat - I do bodyweight workouts - I run indoors, on the spot or back and forth between the front and back of the house, and up and down the stairs. Pam

The protein combining theory originates from "Diet for a Small Planet" by Frances Moore Lappe, and was recanted decades ago. There is no such thing as an incomplete protein, even though it is still widely referred to. All plant sources contain all of the essential amino acids, then as long as you are eating enough…

BTW, for folks with really bad depression during TOM, consider any over-the-counter meds you are using. The few times that I used Midol or that type of product, it made my depression ten times worse. It was awful. I absolutely cannot take Midol, it affects my mood too much. I can only take plain ibuprofen or naproxen. If…

See whether hot baths work for you or not. For me, heating pad or hot bath would cause the inflamed tissues to swell even more, making me very sore to the touch, with a huge belly and so much swelling that I could hardly breathe, and anything I ate caused reflux. I had to stay away from any heat. Cold pack worked better.…

I like sunbutter (sunflower). Cashew is good, but way too expensive, at least here. I have heard good things about soynut butter and peabutter, but I haven't tried them myself. I was going to take some treats to a church function in December, and between three of us allergy folks, the only nut/seed butter that would work…

We've also had things like celery and nut butter (obviously pb doesn't work for you, but whatever seed/nut does) for breakfast. Of course anything the kiddo gets to dip is considered a treat, so he figures he's getting away with something. He'll also just grab a raw fruit or veggie for brekky. Apple, banana, tomato,…

Here is a good pancake recipe that freezes well. I usually make it with tapioca starch rather than potato starch, as my dad has a neurological reaction to potato starch and I usually follow him in my reactions. I have also used arrowroot. It doesn't seem to make a difference whether you use cream of tarter or not, so I…

The only thing that has helped my periods is running. And yes, I have had horrible periods my whole life. The cramps, very heavy bleeding, swelling up so much it hurt to breathe, back and cramps. Could barely walk for three days, and the period would last up to 10. Even codeine didn't touch it the pain. But running has…

Wow. Amazing changes in your life. You are strong. Pam

You could also try bodyweight exercises. Whatever is fun for you! Pam

I get up early. I exercise before and after DS is in bed. He's old now, but still demands my attention and doesn't like me exercising. When he was a toddler, even locking myself in the bathroom was out. He broke several doors off of their hinges or wrecked the doorframes. Bam-Bam! Pam

What does he want for breakfast? When we changed my son's diet, he wanted rice and veggie ham for breakfast (our Asian market carried one that was gluten free. No longer <sigh>). So that's what had had. He will still often just have rice with soy sauce. No reason you can't have leftovers for breakfast. What does he eat for…

Coconut lentils, mixed veggies, and quinoa salad. Pam

It's not magical. Some people are comfortable and have good results with it, others not. You can overeat calories on just about any "eat this not that" diet. I have a pretty restrictive diet, what with being vegetarian, celiac, and multiple allergies, but I have no problem at all overeating. I don't believe that the…

My DS has always been very demanding of my attention, especially when I am working out. The only way to get a good workout in is to do it before he is up or after he is in bed. So I am up at 5:30 a.m. to exercise, and often do another at 9:00 p.m. Any time I workout while he is up (and I still do sometimes) he wants my…
