  • Which ones did you try and how did you prepare them? To be healthy, you need to eat vegetables. They've got amazing benefits. Google vegetarian recipes. There are so many fantastic ways to prepare veggies.
  • I always have a couple of Amy's Organic Cheddar Cheese Burritos in my freezer for those really busy days. Because my dietary focus is on iron and protein as a vegetarian, these are great for me when I need a hit of iron on those bad food days. We don't eat a whole lot of frozen vegetables (basically just corn) but I love…
  • I don't eat meat and I'm trying to keep soy low in my diet so I focus a lot on beans and lentils, always combined with either brown rice or quinoa. If you google non-soy meat alternatives, you're going to find tons of blogs with recipes. A lot of the time when you find vegan recipes, they're also gluten free as well.…
  • Check your library for vegetarian cookbooks, there are quite a few out there for kids. Take your daughter's favourite meals and then find ways to make them vegetarian. The only concern is really about getting enough protein and iron but as long as you're replacing meat with foods that are rich in those things, she'll be…
  • My son has been asking for "getti and meatballs" so I'll be making that tonight. The husband and kids will get their spaghetti with a ground turkey sauce and mine is with a lentil and veggies sauce.
  • I buy one piece swimsuits that have rushing around the stomach to hide the extra weight that I carry there (those abs in my picture are my motivation, not mine!) I also love a tunic coverup or a sarong for when I'm not in the water.
  • One of the reasons why I use this site is to keep an eye on how much iron I'm getting, as I eat a mostly meat-free diet. A lot of my iron comes from grains - bread, pasta, crackers - and from meat substitutes. I was surprised to see today that my 100g Iogo yogurt scored 15. I always make sure to take a vitamin c supplement…
  • I cook up black beans or red kidney beans with garlic, onions, carrot, corn, tomato, and peppers. I eat it over brown rice or quinoa topped with nutritional yeast or in a tortilla with cheese and sour cream. Jamaican rice and peas is a staple in my house - red kidney beans or pigeon peas cooked with rice in water and…
  • I take a full B complex daily for my anxiety and it works amazingly well. No issues with it on my stomach, lots of energy. I take a high dose but the body releases what it doesn't need through urine. B vitamins have helped me so much.
  • I find that coconut milk doesn't really have the taste of coconut to it, but the water does for sure. When I put coconut milk in my smoothies instead of almond milk, I don't notice the taste of coconut at all (I use a lot of canned coconut milk or coconut cream for cooking but I really don't like the taste of coconut milk…
  • I think it's a good idea for meat eaters who want to eat less of it to try going vegetarian just for a week (or longer if you can keep it up with it.) You'll find great new ideas for meals that will stick with you even once you start eating meat again. I go for months without eating meat, then go back to it, but even when…
  • I do. Just to make sure that I'm getting them in. I tend to forget to take them some days, so this way I can see what I've missed. For me some of my vitamins are instead of medication (vitamin b for anxiety for instance) so I want to make sure I don't miss a day.
  • The 100 calorie add-on is great advice. And pick the exercise back up. You've added calories and started exercising less so that could be making you think that it's all because of the extra calories you're eating. And don't forget that stress can make you hold on to weight.
  • Go for a run....the exercise is going to help your anxiety. Not just because you're conquering your fear of running alone, but because exercise is great for any sort of anxiety disorder. I have anxiety disorder and I've conquered it. If you need any tips just send me a message and I'll share everything that has worked for…
  • If you're going to be doing p90x check out Brendan Brazier's "Thrive Diet" and "Whole Foods to Thrive." He's an ultra marathoner and vegan. Also check out Rich Roll another ultra-endurance athlete and vegan. They've got great tips for everyone, but will also be good for you with your exercise level.
  • All of the above. I go for a few months eating meat, a few months not eating it. When I do eat meat, it's hormone/antibiotic local poultry only. I stopped eating red meat and pork when I was 16. Occasionally I'll have fish but I've never cared for it much. When I'm not eating meat (like right now) I'm about 80% vegan. I…
  • I get most of my produce by local CSA box once a week so it's usually a surprise what kind of fruit and veg I get. Typically I get: Potatoes Onions Spinach Bananas Cantaloupe Mangos or Strawberries Corn on the Cob Carrots Zucchini Tomatoes Apples Lettuce To add to the box I buy: Lemons Bananas (because my family goes…
  • I hurt my knees when I was a teenager and a competitive figure skater. Like you I cannot do any lunges or squats. So I do a lot of any sort of leg raises, weighted calf raises, that's about all I can do without pain. After years of doing exercises that don't put weight on the knee and seeing therapists for strengthening…
  • The key to getting enough protein when you're vegan is to make sure that you're getting complete proteins. The ones in animals are complete, the protein in plants are incomplete (don't have all of the essential aminos in them.) Some people will say you can complete proteins by certain combinations of foods (for example…
  • I used to a lot but since I have had my young kids, I don't get out as much. My husband and I used to rollerblade all the time while we were dating. Now we go to the roller rink for dates (not as often as we would like but tons of fun!)
  • Gluten is a big deal when it comes to behaviour. My friend has a two year old who was always clingy, whiny, and would not talk to anyone outside of the family. She took gluten out of her diet, that child is a totally different 2 year old, she's outgoing and independent now. If you like smoothies, make your own. I make a…
  • I take a B 100 Complex daily and I have never had an issue. For me, headaches come down to my calorie intake. One thing I've learned from tracking my calories here over time, I can't eat less than 1600 calories a day or else I get a severe headache (not a migraine but not a pop a tylenol and feel better one either.)
  • Do you like smoothies? Try throwing some greens in there. I find as long as my smoothie has a banana in it, I don't really taste the greens. I like sprinkling nutritional yeast over some of my veggies, it's a healthy way of giving it some taste. Pureeing them is a good idea. Go the Deceptively Delicious route that is used…
  • I start each morning with hot water and lemon while I'm getting the kids ready and drop them to the bus. I can't eat breakfast first thing in the morning. Once I come back from the bus, I usually have one of the following: Green Smoothie Bob's Red Mill 10 Grain Hot Cereal with honey, cinnamon, and fruit Spelt Cereal with…
  • I don't know how much it impacts weight loss so much as just when you cut these foods out of your diet, you're not as bloated. I have a dairy intolerance. I can tolerate small amounts but when I cut it out of my diet completely, i notice a difference in my stomach. Dairy is my one thing that if I cut out of my diet, but…
  • I got it back after my first child but not after my second. 4 years in I still have the pouch. However, once he starts school in September and Mama has her days to herself, I'm going for it! I have a sister in law who always shows of her six-pack and tells people "see, after three kids you can get it back." She forgets…
  • I'm slim and there are a lot of women of all sizes at my studio who are much more flexible than me! As they always say in my class, the benefits aren't from how perfect you do the pose, but about how hard you push yourself. As long as you go as far as you can you're getting as much of the benefits from the pose as the…
  • I just got started on the green smoothie train recently and I love them for breakfast. As long as there is banana in it, I'm happy with the taste. The basic mix for me is Spinach Kale Frozen Blueberries Banana Almond Milk or Coconut Milk Ground flaxseed After that I add in whatever fruit or vegetable looks good from my CSA…
  • LOL, a lot of people outside of Bikram say things that make it sound kind of cult-like when you look at the way Bikram runs the business (not just anyone can open a studio, studios have to pay fees, he's copyrighted the postures, etc.) For most of the people who take classes, you wouldn't notice anything like that. But I…

  • When I used to do the 8pm class, I would come home and eat everything in sight. Now that I'm doing the 6pm class, I make sure to have a good snack at 4pm, then I come home after class and eat my dinner. I'm able to control my eating much better if I still have a meal left to eat after class.
