I'm 5'7", 135lbs and I find that if I don't eat at least 1600 calories a day, I get headaches (at other weights, I found the same thing.) So like others have said, increase your calories. It took me a while of playing around with calorie intake to find that 1600 is the magic number for me. I know that some of it depends on…

I don't listen to hip hop but I do like R&B - MaryMary, Mandisa, and Kierra Sheard would all be good. CeCe Winans has an amazing song called "Pray" which is very uplifting. You could also try Christian reggae - Papa San and Stitchie make some more upbeat stuff.

There have been quite a few studies that show green tea can help you lose weight. However, it's not something that you can just drink the tea and lose weight, it just gives you a little extra boost when it comes to weight loss. When I want to lose some weight, I drink 3-4 cups of green tea a day, there are a lot of…

Dairy is what has me stuck at vegetarian and not going all the way to vegan. There are quite a lot of dairy alternatives out there, I suggest trying them and seeing if you like them. I did that and found that I love vegan butter but am not that fond of vegan cheese (though a lot of people tell me Daya is good and I haven't…

No flu shot here. Just make sure I'm getting my vitamin C and D each day, cooking more with fresh garlic and ginger, adding honey to my smoothies, drinking lots of tea, washing my hands a lot and getting lots of sleep. Just do what I can to keep my immune system strong so it can fight off anything that comes my way. Last…

Figure out what you think you're not getting enough of through your diet or if you have any health issues that can be helped by vitamins then choose those ones. I take a B100 complex because I have a history with anxiety. I take Vitamin C with meals to help with iron absorption because I'm vegetarian and I take a vitamin D…

I've read this on a few raw food websites but never heard the reasoning behind it. The whole "eyes are darker because of toxins in the system" is a very interesting one. Does that mean that my kids, who were born with dark black eyes had a whole whack load of toxins in their systems? Or was it just because they're Black?…

Based on what you're eating already, add fruit to your oatmeal, lettuce to your sandwich, and one or two extra veggies to your soups and curries. Go to the grocery store and pick up fruits and veg you like. Cut up celery, carrots, peppers, etc. and wash grapes and then put them in small baggies. That way you can just…

Feel free to friend me and take a look at my diary. If you have any questions about the recipes I've used feel free to ask. If you're feeling tired and snappy you're may be low in iron. Make sure when you're eating plant-based foods that are high in iron, you're having vitamin c with it.

I know of people who have worn monitors and found that they were burning over 300-400 calories in a class. The thing about Bikram and other forms of hot yoga is that we use the heat so we can into the poses better. That is something I definitely notice. However, I do find my body working much harder in the BIkram class…

I lift at home with dumbbells. I like to use those 30 day program charts you find online and I just increase the weights as time goes on. I also plan to start with a kettlebell soon. Look on Craigslist or other websites or at Goodwill for used weights. As you go increase the amount of weight you use, you can sell your old…

I found a piece of a bandaid in a bag of rice recently. My husband told me to just take it out as "that is why you wash your rice first. According to Health Canada, there is an acceptable amount of rat droppings allowed in your cereal box." I remember hearing that story on the news once.

In my home, we're heavy tea drinkers. I was raised by Europeans and my husband is Jamaican so a good cup of tea is very important around here. A cuppa of orange pekoe with a lot of milk will solve any crisis. That being said, green tea is an acquired taste. It definitely has some health benefits but it does require 2-3…

I take a B 100 complex every other day. The other thing you can do is use nutritional yeast on food (it's got a nutty, cheesy flavour, vegans use it a lot as cheese substitute, I always put it on my pasta or beans.) I'm vegetarian and I watch my iron levels closely. I get mine from whole wheat pasta and breads, beans, dark…

I have been dealing with this for 20 years now, had to quit competitive figure skating because of it. I saw specialists for it and they ruled out it being a problem with my feet however my physiotherapist used to tape my feet before I would go to teach skating and my knees felt much better after. For years I stayed away…

My knee pops but it never gets sore. It happens while doing squats and other forms of exercise. I've been told by doctors that as long as their is no pain, there is no concern. If there is pain, you should see a doctor.

Pick up some vegan cookbooks or check out vegan websites. My family is lactose intolerant so I do a lot of vegan baking, using vegan butter or almond/coconut milk. Most vegetarian/vegan books and websites have tons of gluten free recipes as well.

Balance is the best word for it. I'm vegetarian so for me a healthy meal means having combinations that make complete proteins, make good progress toward my daily amount of iron, and are colourful and natural. It's important to identify what you need to get out of your food and a healthy meal will be one that gives you…

I can't give you a direct answer however, I suggest checking out two of my favourite websites www.mindbodygreen.com www.youngandraw.com There are always lots of articles there about eating to fight inflammation. They are great websites for getting information about how to get what you need from your food.

Mmm....chips. Chips are my food, love them. What works for me is mind control and willpower. I tell myself I will eat chips, but I have to eat something healthy first. I find that by eating an apple first, much of my want of crunchy food is gone, plus I'm not as hungry so I eat less chips. I also only eat chips at the end…

Sorry to hear this happening to you, I can't give the answer you are looking for, but I look forward to seeing what people have to say as I have torn cartilage in my knees so many times in my teens and 20's, I lost count. It stinks. I rely on walking, yoga, and swimming for fitness now.

Back when I ate meat, I was borderline anemic. Once I went vegetarian, my iron levels increased because I was so focused on my iron levels not getting worse. Foods I eat for iron - lentils, quinoa, oatmeal, beans, whole wheat pasta, leafy greens. Those are all staples in my diet and factor in it every day. I keep meat…

My two go-to recipes are: Black beans with corn, peppers, and tomatoes and then I eat it over brown rice or quinoa for dinner and in whole wheat tortillas or pitas for lunch. Lentils with peppers, celery, spinach or kale in tomato sauce and eat it over pasta (I always add nutritional yeast to that one, I like the flavour…

Black beans, corn, peppers in a whole tortilla wrap with sour cream and cheddar cheese.

One of my favourite things to eat is what I call Black Bean "chili" (I realize it's not proper chill) - black beans, corn, peppers, and tomatoes. I eat it over brown rice or quinoa, as well as in wraps for lunch. My husband who is not a vegetarian likes it as a side with his dinner. When I do pasta I add lentils, peppers,…

I give in. I crave all things salty, mostly potato chips. What I do though, and it takes some willpower, is I tell myself I can have some only after I eat something healthy. So I'll grab an apple and then I'll have some chips. I eat a lot less at that point. That's the best way for me.

Lots of people go vegetarian and put on weight because they think that when the meat is gone, they're not eating as much calories. But when their diet includes processed foods, or they don't pay attention to calories, they don't see the weight go. Will you lose weight through your meal plan? Yes. Is it a good idea? I don't…

It's all in getting it prepared before the games start. I like to prepare finger foods for our football Sundays. I usually bake chicken wings for my husband, have veggies cut up with dip, tortilla chips with either salsa or guacamole, black bean wraps, sweet potato fries. If I get it all done the day before or in the…

Meat raised and processed in Canada has been the source of e.coli and listeria outbreaks here in Canada. When it comes to our food, dangers can happen anywhere. I do think though as consumers we should be making efforts to support our local farmers and producers though. Why have your chicken put on a plane or boat to come…

I love veggies in a tortilla wrap or pita with some shredded cheese. Add beans and sour cream...yum. I steam a lot of veggies and then add a bit of Earth Balance vegan butter and sea salt, simple but good. You can always disguise them in smoothies as many have already suggested. I puree carrots and add them to spaghetti…
