  • I'm in - although the miles/days I cycle are determined more by the local event calendar and training commitments but the mileages should be high enough to help with the grand tours. The one day events will likely be hit or miss but we'll do our best. Outdoor riding really takes off around here for me in late March so the…
  • Welcome - I can't help with the running or swimming per se (although I can admire and cheer you on!) but we do speak cycle-ese here if that helps! Warning some of us do have high geek factors on things like numbers.....
  • Yes, like many of these fine MFP folks, I also have done a fair amount of cycling although my riding is largely based in the Pacific NW of the US. Always looking to interact with other cyclists. I do a fair amount of ride leading for a local club focusing on developmental/training rides for riders of a wide range of…
  • Great results!! You are inspirational! As for your ultimate under 130 aspirations, my bride finally got to her equivalent goal over the last year - first time in her adult life she had been at that number (120 in her case) - so your ultimate goal may indeed be achievable with continued focus and particularly since you have…
  • I also use the Topeak (http://www.topeak.com/products/Pumps/RoadMorphG) pump along with CO2 - one key is that there is a flexible hose between the valve stem and the pump body (and the floor foot thing actually does work!) which keeps you from breaking the valve stem when pumping (and tell me you have never done that?) -…
  • If you are into bicycling (roads), there are quite a few rides available even this time of year in the East Side areas - you can check them at Cascade Bicycle Club Daily Rides Calendar page ( http://www.cascade.org/EandR/Activities_Calendar.cfm?query=cascadefreedailyride ) and at the Cascade Free Daily Rides pages on…
  • Just posted this same info on another thread on this discussion group (I don't get on the Discussion forums that often) - I'm in Woodinville (Hollywood Hill) here - don't do the running but do a fair amount of road cycling. Let me know if you want any assistance on how to find some of appropriate cycling rides in the area…

  • My son just ordered a bike with SRAM Force on it - he did a lot of test rides on different bikes - currently uses Campy but evaluated both Shimano and SRAM on the test rides of different bikes. Liked the Shimano but ended up choosing the SRAM - some very good gear ratio's on the SRAM for the steeper local hills and longer…
  • Very nice indeed! Love the bright lights on the seatstays! Let us know how the Schwalbe Marathons hold up. I just put a pair on the bike for the winter this fall to see how they feel and work in the grunge (Schwalbe Marathons 420 HS).
  • OK - I figured out how to join both Strava and the MFP group - now it looks like it wants data from the Garmin device - most of the workouts for the next couple of months will be indoors and interval based rather than ride based (there are a few exceptions) - I guess we'll find out how Strava looks at files without a GPS…
  • Rule 5 is of course the key one - in the spring, winter, and fall, we also have to deal with Rule 9 - and during about half of "summer' as well.
  • A recent magazine article I saw said" "The American Association of Neurological Surgeons reports that more sports-related head injuries in 2009 occurred on bicycles than on football, baseball, and softball fields combined, and sports-related TBI numbers are rising." (http://www.menshealth.com/health/smack-upside-head) -…
  • I move indoors for a three times per week interval sessions on trainers until the end of March- nice computer based setup where I go and we have coaches design the workouts to be progressive during each 8-10 week session. Will try to lead outdoor rides about 2 times per month on weekends to maintain bike handling skills…

  • I'll do what I can to help but will be sans bicycle for most of the time due to travel. Probably can help the most toward the end of the event as I don't get home until 1 Sept (leaving 22 Aug) - see me more as a late stage domestique.
  • Thanks to TBY for doing this - it was fun to do and I am amazed at how much data you had to crank through!! That was a big effort on all our behalf. It was nice to be on the podium....and there's always next year!!

  • Also my thanks to TBY for doing this - it has been fun and forced me to overcome my general reluctance to upload the Garmin data - sort of beginning to feel natural!

  • By the way, I will be off-line beginning some time on 30 june until about 8-9 of July. I will be riding (and assuming the electronics are working) for 6 of those days on a short bicycle tour (Riding on 1,2, 3 July and 5, 6, 7 July). I can/will post the data when we are back at home but I am not taking a laptop on this…
