Fiber is excellent for weight loss but too much fiber can alter how your body absorbs vitamin D. As a fat soluble vitamin, low fat diets can also alter how you absorb vitamin D. Talk to your pharmacist about a supplement and keep up the good work.

This one looks pretty tasty. http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/desserts/r/breakfastshake.htm

I understand the challenges that come from a lifestyle change. I'm still trying to recover from going back to school and I graduated a year ago. The best I can suggest is start with a few little victories first. If you make it to work out once a week, congratulate yourself for getting there and then make the next goal…

I love the egg mug idea. I think I'll add some seasonal veggies to it when I give it a try. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for sharing. I'm glad to know that you are on the road to good health.

Do you have a toaster oven? If it's just you and your husband, this may be a good option, and they usually aren't very expensive. Also, your microwave shouldn't do anything to your food that your normal cooking method would do. If you're steaming veggies in the mocrowave, it's just like steaming them on the stove...…

Cumin will add a savory, latin flair to most dishes without adding sodium. Chopped onions, ginger (fresh or powdered), and citrus zest (the colored part of the peel) can add a lot of bright and wonderful flavor to meat or vegetable dishes.

I used to worry about this, but a personal trainer at my gym says it is normal to see fluctuations of up to 8 lbs! I actually don't record my weigh in that week. I just make sure it goes back down the next week.

Weekends are tough and I have been having to "baby step" my way to not undoing all my progress on Saturdays and Sundays. In January, I just made a point to log everything without forcing myself to stick to my calorie goal. I found that just by logging and being honest with myself I did better. In February, my goal is earn…

A lot of hgih fiber cereals and bars have psyllium powder in them for the fiber, so if you have any allergies, be careful with those. Flax seed is a good fiber source to add. I like the milled flax seed in yogurt. Also, dry roasted edamame (soy beans) pack quite a bit of fiber. Just watch the salt and keep some water.…

Congratulations on hitting your goal weight! That's wonderful. If you can get down to around 2500 mg of sodium, since you have no blood pressure problems, you should do well. The main thing for you should be water retention as you suspect. However, a prolonged high sodium diet can cause health problems so it's good that…

Most picnics will include fruits and veggies, so max out on those and go small portions on any dips. The big thing is to enjoy your day and the considerate thing your boyfriend is doing for you. If you have to work out a little harder or longer the next day, it's worth it.

Your problem may be lack of sleep. When I was only getting about 5 hours of sleep because of work and school, I noticed that I would eat twice as much as usual! As for stretching calories, try snacking on carrot sticks or pickles when you're hungry. The crunch can be very satisfying and the calories are really low. Be…

Milk has plemty of potassium as well as protein and the sugars. For me, the electrolyte replacement is rarely necessary but my mom tends to have low potassium so she swears by it. The chocolate is just to make it yummy. Give Heshey's special dark chocolate syrup in Promised Land fat free milk a try. That's one of my new…

I agree that if you don't go over like that very often you should be ok, but a high protein diet can put stress on the kidneys. If you have high blood pressure or another kidney disease risk factor you should be cautious.

Avocados are calorically dense but full of great nutrients. I really like them sliced up on salad. You could also try adding milled flax seed to yogurts or smoothies. It's also nutritionally and calorically dense.

This a great motivator for me to load some workout music on my new MP3 player. I've been using it primarily at work and watching HGTV on the elliptical. Thanks for the reminder to try something different.

I've never been pregnant, but I can say that my sister-in-law's OB-GYN was really helpful with this when she was pregnant. She had some challenges related her migraines, indigestion and morning sickness that her doctor was really able to help with. You may also see if your insurance would cover a visit with a nutritionist.

I try to eat back only my "extra" exercise calories. I have come to think of 3 - 45 minute work outs a week as what I owe myself. If I go to the gym an extra day or stay a little longer, then I allow myself to cheat. As for the wonderful bread at that Lebanese resturant, I feel your pain! Best of luck with your temptation.…

Welcome back and congratulations on your engagement. You're in the right place to get extra support and get back on the healthy track. I understand your frustration with weight gain after a loss. I actually gained back 40 pounds of 90 pound loss over the course of three years. This hurts! Of the 20 pounds I have lost in…

If you do decide to give that a try, shoot for only a few times a week. Sleep is also important for weight loss. The other suggestions I would have for you is to seek help and lighten your load a bit. Is there someone that could help you by making dinner and cleaning up twice a week so you can work out? Could you actually…

I know it's cliche, but everyone has bad days. You started this journey for a reason. Try to remember that and focus on it. If this is more than just a rough day, consider calling a friend and talking to someone. I know you don't know me, but you're welcome to friend me and I'll see if I can help.

I rediscovered McDonalds when I was commuting back and forth to school after work. For two years, their drive-thru kept me in spicy chicken sandwich and un-sweet tea. Calorically it wasn't bad, but the fat and salt in the chicken sandwich was a big no-no and the caffiene at 10 o'clock at night wreaked havoc with my…

I've battled the same problem. It can be tough. Best suggestion I have is to buy the shelf stable tuna salads (you should be able to get them without crackers) and pack this with celery sticks. It's almost too low calorie though so you may need to suplement it with some carrot sticks, almonds, or cheese sticks. (or maybe…

Going to the store this past week was actually within budget despite the fact that we were out of quite a few staples. We spent a lot more time on the edges of the store this time also. We really only ventured to the middle for things like: rice (I'm cajun. It's a necessity.) bottled water (which my husband is drinking in…

These look wonderful! Definitely going to make these for my next party. (should be a great superbowl snack)

It's amazing the changes we don't notice because they are so gradual. Congratulations on such a great NSV.

There are some great websites on this thread that I'm looking forward to trying. My hubby and I try to eat vegetarian a few times a week. My doctor suggests that meat should be used more as a garnish on your plate if you're eating it. He was counseling me on my weight and family history of heart disease. There are a lot of…

Thanks for the encouragement to rest of us. I have to admit, I am a little nervous about the day I don't fit in the Lane Bryant 14/16's. I don't know that I remember to how to shop for "skinny girl" professional clothes.

You have started on this path for some very personal reasons. Keep them in the forefront of you mind (or even in a big note on the fridge!) You may not have anyone in your day to day life that is doing this with you, but you have found a great community of people that are in the same boat and want you to succeed. You can…
