The idea is that the calorie deficit is *already* factored in to give you the 1200. You need to net 1200 per day, which is total caloric intake minus the calories you burn. In theory if you have too small a caloric intake your metabolism will slow down and will start burning muscle instead of fat, which isn't what you…

You're never going to have a perfect downward-sloping weightloss chart, esp. if you weigh every single day. There's always going to be small fluctuations in your body that can contribute to gaining or losing, and you might see yourself down a pound for a day, down half a pound, up half a pound, down one, up one down…

I track it under "circuit training" for 21 minutes; I don't have a HRM but I timed on my watch how long it took not counting the warm up and cool down but it's up to you if you want to include those in the time :) I think for 21 mins it gives me about 250ish cals, which I've been told sounds about right.

30 Day Shred by Jillian Michaels - it's like magic!! Tough workout but very, very good. It's also only a fiver on amazon :) Also, it's only 20 minutes long which means there's no excuse to not be able to fit it into your day haha :)

When I joined I straight away set my cals for a 2lb a week loss and was given 1200 cals. I *very* quickly discovered there was no way I could live like that even for a short time. I was going over on my cals even with including exercise and still feeling *starving* constantly. This is supposed to be a lifelong change so it…

I remember reading on the Runners World website a discussion on this topic; the general gist was that mostly it's snobbishness that differentiates between the two! haha :) They basically said that it doesn't matter, you're still getting up off the couch and doing something active, the leg action is much the same, and the…

I *think* the first is a myth. Or possibly it just depends from person to person? Some people might find exercise gives them loads of energy and therefore they can't relax enough to sleep. Others might find it tires them out and actively helps them to sleep :) #2 is, I think, true to some extent but only within moderation.…

anywhere you want to see a difference! :) I go for: Each thigh (at the widest point) Hips Waist (at the thinnest point - somewhere around an inch above the belly button) Ribs Bust I've seen others measuring forearms, upper arms, wrists, calves etc but I've not found that necessary. As I say, just anywhere you want to…

You can't have gained 4lbs in a single day; it can only be something like fluid retention, high sodium as someone else suggested, or the body's natural fluctuations or something along those lines. If you weigh every day you're going to see it going up, down and all over the place: weight loss isn't a single steady…

I've only done L1, but for me its the static lunges with weights. It just strains the back of my ankle to the point where I pulled the muscle and could barely walk (hence why I've only done L1!) I have to switch legs half way through and then just do the same on the second go round. And press up for 2nd worst - everyone's…

There's a "modern dance" option which I log it under :) Not sure how correct or reliable to amount is, but right now for me it's close enough. Otherwise, if you have a hrm you can create your own exercise and input how many you burned.

Maybe it was just something they weren't comfortable discussing...like, they didn't want to say anything which might have been misconstrued? Some people just find it easier to say nothing at all rather than risk it coming out wrong and having people get offended :) Although, how difficult is it to say, "wow,…

I always eat back my calories. MFP is set up to give you the appropriate calorie deficit without ANY exercise factored in, so exercising and not eating them back gives you too much of a deficit and the body struggles to handle it and weightloss may slack off or plauteau altogether. Or so I'm assured by other MFP users :)
-
Fantastic words. So true! If only I could get rid of mine - before MFP I was UK 38F, after a few weeks (including 11 days of 30DS) I'm a tenuous 36F. I guess any reduction is a step in the right direction, but why oh why can the cup size not change?! lol :)

Perhaps your resolution to do well at the moment is meaning that you're really focussed on doing it "right" - exercising loads, eating small quantities etc. If that's working for you, stick with it for as long as it feels right :) maybe you'll find that once your body has adjusted to the exercise it'll start craving the…

It's 2x meals a day plus a nutritious, balanced meal - either at lunch time or in the evening, depending on what works best for the individual :)

I've tried it before but it wasn't something I could ever sustain for more than about 4 days at a time. a) I found it boring having the same food 2x daily (even including the different flavours), b) I was always still hungry at the end of the bowl and c) within about half an hour of finishing I'd be so hungry I'd be eating…

I know 2 people who do it as an exercise class and both rave about how much they love it x) It's supposed to be fantastic for your arm and chest muscles but also your thighs too I think? I'm told the atmosphere is very friendly, everyone is there to have fun and its apparently a great laugh - nothing sleazy about it :)

I'm not convinced about the accuracy of the wii fit weigh-ins, but it does at least seem to be consistent which makes it ok :) I always weigh in a couple pounds heavier on the wii fit than my scales tell me, but the thing is as long as its consistently the same level in comparison to the scales then it makes little…

They generally say 2lbs a week is a healthy rate to lose at, but then you need to take into account plateaus, weak moments, things coming up to stop you exercising and things like that so it'd be rare for someone to consistently lose at that pace. I've set myself a target of a 21lbs loss by the first of July - so a 6 month…

NO!! If I did, I'd end up in a 'I-can't-do-this-what's-the-point-I'm-disgusting-and-fat-and-I'm-never-going-to-win' type despair :) I'ma attempt to go easy on stuff, but I'm not going to kick my *kitten* about having stuff I want :)

They have one of the "models" doing a beginners version of everything - she doesn't jump as high, doesn't go so far into squats etc. So it shouldn't be impossible for you to jump right in if you have the motivation. I'm not much fit and it's *hard* but its only 20 minutes so you get through somehow. The dvd is cheap so you…

I'm at exactly the same place right now!! When I signed up I was precisely on 200lb and I was kinda upset - knew I was big but I'd never worked it out in lbs before. This morning I weighed and I was 197. It's only the start but it's a good way to start!! Congrats big time :D
-
I guess if you're working it out on here just add in a couple hundred calories a day on top of what is usual and try to stick to it. If you like fruit have a few more pieces a day for the natural sugars in it. And don't stress over having the occasional treat :) oh, and well done for not letting the weight less take over…

I have mine set to private. I have no interest looking at anyone else's food diary and don't see why anyone would want to look at mine. It's there for my own information, not anyone else's. I can see for myself what my good and bad choices were that day and *really* do not need someone else making me feel guilty.
-
Not deliberately I started with a dress - I found it in Tesco for £1 so even though I wasn't sure it'd fit I decided it was worth a try!! So it went on but didn't do up...then when I started exercising I tried it on every few weeks and seeing it get nearer and nearer was really exciting! If nothing else it was good because…

I don't know much about the 30DS ( still waiting for it to get here in the post!) but the other day I saw someone one say that they'd heard JM say on a podcast that it was intended for use on about 4 days a week with rest days...so precisely the opposite of what someone else said here! sorry if I've just made things more…

i have the wii fit plus and I think it's a great tool. I'll be honest and say I haven't been on it in well over a month...but I'm gonna blame that on University and essays and...you get the picture :) I'm looking forward to having the time to get back on it, but I've started an outdoor fitness class which I love so I don't…
