Just under a month old.

I chose mine based on what I considered was both normal and attainable. Once I hit it (about 20 pounds to go), I'll re-evaluate.

Welcome! :)

Thanks for the encouragement, everybody.

It definitely gets easier. I finished C25K about 4 months ago, and the whole 9 weeks of it, I didn't know if I was going to be able to do the next step. When I started, I was about 270 pounds and had never run for more than maybe a minute at a time in my life. Since finishing the program, I now run 5k about 3 times a week…

Psst. Corn isn't a vegetable either. :)
-
<-- I wouldn't say I'm to "average" yet, but I'm getting there.
-
Just for the record, my profile picture is really me. :)

Ran 5k twice in the new shoes over the weekend, and they feel great! So glad I returned the others for a new pair! I also got $31 back because the new ones were cheaper. :)
-
That I never want to look like that again.
-
I took them back, and tried on 4 more pair. I like 2 of them, but one just a little more than the other. I ran 1/2 mile on the treadmill at the store before leaving just to make sure. (The ones I returned started hurting at about 1/4 mile).

Thanks for all of the responses, and I'm glad to see a concensus. To answer a couple of the questions: Yes, he sized them a little big intentionally because of feet swelling when you run. He also looked at my gait and a bunch of other things to have me try shoes in the right "category". Also, while I usually run outside, I…

Feel free to add me as well. I'm down 35, but still have a way to go. The encouragement I've gotten from my MFP friends has been very helpful to me.

I've BEEN TO Maine. :)

I've never run before because I hated it as well. I'm about 265 pounds, and I'm starting week 4 of C25K tomorrow. In just three weeks I've noticed: - I get winded less from normal activity (e.g., stairs) - My resting heart rate is lower (my normal used to be 75-90, and it's now 60-65) - I stopped taking my blood pressure…

I shoot for a goal of a certain amount of NET calories (1000 under my RMR). I exercise almost every day, and if I burn a lot of calories, I make sure I eat enough to get my net calorie intake into my range. Don't confuse the recommendation of "eat back your exercise calories" to mean that you have to eat them AFTER the…

I disagree with most of the replies. I wouldn't eat something that doesn't fit into my plan just because that's what somebody else wants to serve. I do agree that taking your own food would be rude. I'd either skip it or eat on my own before (or after) I went. You can enjoy their company without eating their food.
-
We're talking about skipping ONE MEAL. You will NOT "starve", and you will absolutely NOT "slow down your metabolism drastically". IIWY, I would exercise enough to earn the calories for dinner. If I couldn't do that, I'd skip the meal.

I can touch my nose with my tongue. In fact, I didn't know until recently that most people can NOT turn their tongue around in their mouths and feel their tonsils. Perhaps not as impressive, but I've taught myself to do a couple things that the average person can't do just to be able to say I can do them, including…

I don't look up the caloric information on beer to know whether I can drink it; I look it up to know how much I'll be able to eat AFTER I drink it. :)

I completely agree with the OP. I've tried a lot of those diets, but they've never "stuck" for me. One example: I lost 20 pounds pretty quickly on South Beach, but I HATED IT!. I was often hungry. I was grumpy, and as a result, my wife hated me. I gave up and gained it all back. The ONLY thing that has worked for me and…

Feel free to add me. I'm down 29 pounds in 7 weeks, but still have a way to go.

I recently got a Polar FT7 for $100, and I really like it. Note that it does have a chest strap, but most of the ones without a chest strap are less accurate and/or a pain to use.

2006 Volvo S60. Maintenance is on the pricey side, but I love it anyway. (Oh, and she's paid for) :)

I only notice the difference visibly if I look at older pictures; I don't see it on a day-to-day basis. I still have a ways to go, but around the 15 pound mark, I noticed that my clothes fit differently. Around 20 pounds was when I first got comments (from people who didn't know I was trying).

This is me as well. MFP has been working well for me so far (7 weeks tomorrow). Feel free to add me.

Congratulations! I just finished week 1. Hope to be where you are in a couple months :)

My favorite burger is this: A1 Peppercorn Burger from Red Robin. That and the fries it comes with are pretty much my entire calorie allotment for a day :(

This literally made me laugh out loud. :)
