  • There were 19,000 participants, so it is likely that everyone knew someone there:) I ran it. It was hot, but a lot of fun. I didn't get as colorful as some people, but that's fine!

  • I probably do most my outdoor walking at the Arlington/Arkwright dog park in E Saint Paul- or just around the neighborhood. The lakes are nice, of course. I do also like Afton. If you are up for a little drive, Willow River State Park just over the border in WI is really nice for jogging and walking. Taylors Falls is also…
  • Cool! That's a great place. I've been there many, many times!
  • MNChick- which restaurant is your family's? If it's in Saint Paul, I've probably been there!
  • I got a 10 am spot! My first 5K. Very excited.
  • Glad to hear I am not just becoming a crotchety old lady in my despise of Grand Old Day. I loved it back when I was in high school, but now it is just a gross frat party. I avoided Grand Ave all together- and didn't even forget it was happening and get stuck in the mess of traffic.
  • Just go and try things out. I never had a plan- and still don't. I vary my workouts a lot- sometimes I bike, sometimes I walk on the treadmill, sometimes I walk/run on the treadmill, sometimes I swim, sometimes I combine all of the above. For me, variety is key to going to the gym regularly. Try combining and cardio and…
  • Welcome to the Minnesota group!
  • You can find poutine at almost any bar in the Twin Cities! I despise gravy, so I haven't ever tried it, but it certainly is around. Maybe it's because we're so close to Canada, eh?
  • Yep- my dietitian was familiar with mfp and how things are calculated, but it really doesn't matter. If someone was writing their food intake in a paper journal or just logging in a spreadsheet, it is all the same. She recommended that someone of my size (252# when I started) who is working to lose weight should eat…
  • If you have health insurance, I would recommend talking with a dietician through your health clinic. My visit with a dietician was so very helpful. She said eating back exercise calories was bunk, but suggested that I strive for 1400-1600 calories intake a day consistently, regardless of exercise. MFP tells me to eat 1600…
  • That sounds awesome. I am going to Rock the Garden at the Walker that day- and both events might be too much. Hopefully they do it again next year! Report back if you do it.
  • There's a great Goodwill at Fairview and University in Saint Paul (just one block north of University). I have much better luck at that one than at the one near Har Mar. The one in Midway is much bigger and I always find good things there.

  • My absolute favorite on Nicollet is Quang, but I also really like Pho Tau Bay and Jasmine Deli. I even know off hand that Jasmine Deli is closed Mondays, Quang is closed Tuesdays, and Pho Tau Bay is closed Wednesdays- making sure that one can get quality Vietnamese on Nicollet every day of the week!
  • A lifelong Saint Paulite here. I'm happy to have more friends; add me if you would like.
  • I have a naturally very thin (150# at 6'), never exercising, eating and drinking whatever he wants and still being healthy, husband. He honestly doesn't think I need to lose weight, despite being obese, and therefore he is very indifferent to my efforts to lose weight. I think I could lose 75 pounds and I would look…
  • I am also not a morning person so I work out at 10:30 pm most nights. I love that I have the gym to myself at this time of night. I stay up until 2 am and get to sleep until 9 am, so late night workouts work well for me!
