  • I did this one last year: http://www.charitieschallenge.org/html/thanksgiving_day_5k.html It was rather small and relaxed.
  • Thanks! I will need to see if I can find the Rice Creek Trail. I have mostly been riding from my workplace on East River Road up to the Coon Rapids Dam, crossing 610, and then back on the other side of the river. Beautiful trails up this way and I look forward to exploring them more. I'll probably go riding in the Fridley…
  • I prefer the downtown Saint Paul market to the Minneapolis one because Saint Paul only allows locally grown produce while at the Minneapolis one they allow fruits and vegetables to be sold even if they were shipped here from elsewhere. You'll also find a lot of smaller markets all around and you should definitely check…
  • Sounds fun, but that's an impossible time for me. Who can get somewhere at 6:30 on a weeknight? Not me, unfortunately.
  • I did this 5K last year. The course was a lot harder than I expected, but it was a nice race, gorgeous day, lots of nice people, highly organized. It was definitely the most competitive race I have ever done- lots of super fit people running.
  • No trips planned this summer, but I am loving being outdoors every time the rain stops. Rides along the river, runs around the lakes, outdoor dining, strolls in the neighborhood. I plan to take in Music at Mears, Music and Movies in Loring Park, the Twin Cities Jazz Festival, Mini Golf at the Walker, the Pride Festival...
  • I quit smoking last year and almost immediately gained 5 pounds. I haven't lost any, nor have I gained any since then. I definitely felt hungrier for a while, but the fact that I can exercise harder and longer and feel 100% better has made the weight thing a moot point! Good job quitting!
  • I did the Surly Loppet trail run in Theodore Wirth Park last year- they have great trails.
  • I am usually a very optimistic Minnesotan who lauds the beauty of four seasons and has a suck-it-up attitude, but this blows. I am so over it.
  • I used to foster dogs. You'll want to make sure Protecting Paws is on PetFinder and that they are holding regular adoption events- if not, you're going to have a foster dog for a long time. It doesn't seem fair to have you responsible for all of the work to find a home for the dogs.
  • He looks so sweet. Unfortunately my house is full with 2 dogs, but I'll keep my ears open for anyone who might be looking.
  • It was Dogs Days at the Dome. They do it about once a month in the winter- it becomes an off leash dog park at the dome. Awesome on these cold days.
  • My favorite subject and, alas, the reason I need to be here. I love eating in the Twin Cities and couldn't pick just one. My favorite: Ethiopian: Fasika Korean: Korean Tofu House (just ate lunch there, mmmm) Cuban: Victor's 1959 Cafe Vietnamese: Quang Thai: Sen Yai Sen Lek African: Afro Deli Chinese: Little Szechuan…
  • Fairly certain that no runs are tax deductible unless you are raising a significant amount of money over the general cost of running a race- and then the donor would get the write off (well, as long as Congress allows donations to nonprofits to remain tax deductible). It is assumed that you are receiving goods and/or…
  • I love it. You can add it to almost anything- as others have said: pizza, eggs, stir-fries, soups, stews, on sandwiches- be creative!
  • You are super organized. I am signed up for the Mother's Day 5K at Como Lake, the Color Run in July at the Fair Grounds, and the YWCA Triathlon in August. I'll probably add a few more along the way- especially in anticipation for the Tri!
  • Well, first of all, I completely disagree with this: Being married is all about supporting your partner. My husband and I have been very happily married for 11 years and I don't think supporting each other has anything to do with it. We love each other, enjoy time together, and really genuinely assure we are still our own…
  • I love seeing the British Television Advertising (now called the Arrow) Awards at the Walker every December. They really aren't too kid friendly, though. I took my niece to Steppingstone Theater to see The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, which was cute. I haven't been but, my parents take the nieces to lake Phalen for the…
  • There is a group for us Minnesotans to gather- it is called "Minnesota." So, search for it and connect with others who live in this great state.
  • I was a half a pack a day smoker for 15 years. Recently I read the book by Allan Carr called "Easy Way to Stop Smoking" and upon finishing the book I haven't smoked a single cigarette. I just stopped. Haven't had a major craving, haven't gained weight, haven't gotten sick- just stopped being a smoker. Now, six weeks later,…
  • I'm a native and I still don't like the cold. I do read a lot more in the winter. I also go to bed a little earlier. And make a lot more soups. And go to more museums. I also love a lot of the MN Winter events- the Art Shanty Project, the Candlelight Snow Shoeing/Hike at Afton State Park, Holidazzle, sledding, ice skating,…
  • I eat out every day- I don't have time to cook or grocery shop. It really is just about making healthy choices when you eat out. I have lost over 50 pounds eating out at least one meal a day for the past 11 months, so it can be done. I rarely eat at chain restaurants, but rather eat at ethnic places that use real food and…
  • Any LA Fitness locations near you? I pay $29/month to go to any LA Fitness- and if I go 12 times/month I get a $20 rebate from my health insurance. $9 per month is a great deal and I really like the gym too.
  • I enjoy the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport so much, I volunteer there at the information booths a couple times a month. I love airports of all shapes and sizes- my favorite, besides MSP of course, is definitely Schiphol (Amsterdam), but Bangkok is pretty amazing too.
  • Is a trip to the Twin Cities too far? How about St. Cloud? Head up to Winnipeg? Rent a cabin on the North Shore? Go to a show in Fargo?
  • Those days aren't good for me, but I did the Surly Loppet trail run in Theodore Wirth Park today and there were some great trails there. Frontenac has the most challenging hiking I have done in a MN Park. Beautiful scenery too.
  • Hi! My husband is a mail carrier too, with a walking route. However, he is 6' and 150# and walking all day doesn't do anything to help him put on any weight- but he also eats mostly healthy food. He has found it impossible to pack lunches and keep them cool until he gets a break. He gets a lot of his food from gas stations…
  • I start working at the Luminarium tonight! I had to go to the Fairgrounds yesterday for training and it was so fun to be among the madness. My plan is to take the bus there and then jog home each night I work, so that on the day I actually go for fun I can indulge. Definitely visit the Luminarium. It is super cool.
  • I just got asked this week to work at the Luminarium at the Fair a few days this year. http://www.mnstatefair.org/entertainment/gs_shows/att05_luminarium.html Doesn't it look cool? And then I get to be at the Fair a couple of extra days, which will be grand. Last year I actually got home from the Fair and realized that I…
