C25K is a great program to use it works on interval training which helps with stamina. If you don't have a smart phone just use your watch start off by running a min and walking 2 for 30 min. Yes it's a good pace, but you'll have to check your age bracket when you google it to see how competitive. My son runs xcountry for high school and his mile splits are usually around 5:35 - 5:45 for a 5k.
